Bucs Unite With Gambling Giant

Buying a used car is a gamble.
So is throwing $600 at Phoenix hookers when they’re not interested in working.
And spending money every week to play fantasy football is gambling, too.
Yeah, the feds don’t consider fantasy football “gambling” in a legal sense. Not yet. And that’s given rise to a booming online industry that keeps getting bigger every day. Daily fantasy baseball — and the hot cash action in brings — is reviving the game.
But fantasy football remains king. It’s become such a cash cow that industry leader FanDuel just spent a pile of money to become an official partner of your Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team announced the three-year deal today.
The Buccaneers will prominently feature FanDuel at Raymond James Stadium, on the team’s official website, in TV and radio broadcasts, and through experiential programs.
“We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with FanDuel that will offer new and exciting ways to enjoy being a football fan,” said Buccaneers Chief Operating Officer Brian Ford. “FanDuel has established itself as the nation’s most popular daily fantasy sports website and we look forward to tapping into their unique platform to enhance our fan experience.”
As a part of the sponsorship, FanDuel will offer unique hospitality experiences for users through free-to-enter games, such as special prize package offerings and VIP access at games, as well as sponsoring fantasy football stats and content every week on Buccaneers.com, the team’s official website.
Joe thinks this is pretty cool. It might actually help get more people to the stadium as part of these prize packages.
On the downside, more numbers-obsessed, fantasy football types will mean more lunatics who think a quarterback, such as Mike Glennon, is a budding superstar solely because he had 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions during his rookie year. It also will produce more freaks who bow at the feet of anonymous Pro Football Focus graders, whose ignorant player ratings helped convince fans that Anthony Collins was a good signing and Donald Penn was washed up.

I guess this day in age you can’t talk football with anyone any let them in on the fact that you play fantasy football. They will automatically think you look at nothing but stats and know nothing about the game.

I am and have never ben in the MG Mob, but heres the deal…. The kid looked average last year, and the O line was as bad as nfl team in the last few years, but whats an even bigger deal is the play calling was as bad as its ever been in the history of the league, so if you could look average under those circumstances and you are 24, then you have a future in the league. Turn on the tape to his visit to seatle… not bad. I’m not saying hes a future hall of famer or you don’t go qb at 1… i’m just saying on a real team with real coaching, he could be a top 10 qb.
Why is it that most people don’t see this. I just hope the guys calling the shots for the Bucs use they’re brains before trading him for bucket of chum…

Remember that throw to win the Pittsburgh game… Guys in his face about to pummel him. Glennon did not flinch and delivered the ball for the win. That’s winning QB play.

Interesting….picking out Glennon….I doubt very seriously if Fantasy enthusiaststs had him picked over Manziel….
We spend a 3rd round pick on him and he was certainly worth that….as a matter of fact….we’ll probably get our pick back if we trade him.

The extreme popularity of Fantasy Football along with the rule changes that favor offense and eliminate aggressive Defensive play are literally ruining the game of football.
The worst thing about fantasy football IMO is that it creates very un-natural preferences and divides the loyalties of fans in ways that would not otherwise exist. For instance – If you are a loyal Bucs fan but Drew Brees is your FF QB – then on one hand you are unhappy when the Bucs D gets torched by Brees for a TD – and yet you are simultaneously happy that “your” QB just scored points for your FF team.
That kind of thinking is just messed up and it is created solely by participation in fantasy football.

Penn needed a smack in the face. Had he not been cut he wouldn’t have stopped hitting the buffets when he should’ve been hitting the gym. He woke up and got himself together for a good season in Oakland. Good for him.
But now the Bucs need a LT. I don’t care what they gotta do to get one.

Oh and Joe…….Im not in the Mike Glennon Mob persay but I can see their point. And it is not Just the 19 and 9 as a rook. It is also the fact that he was the first rook ever to throw 10 TDs to 1 Int. and that he was the first rook ever to throw a TD in Each of his first 8 games. When you combine that with the fact that he had no 2WR, was on his 3 and 4 RB, with a rook TE that was just converted from WR, behind a horrid OL, under a HC that was getting fired and I can see their point.

I just don’t get fantasy football. But then I’m far from a stats geek. I believe in that old saying about there are lies, damn lies..and statistics!
This is what bores me about MLB fans as well. I could care less about Don Drysdale’s lifetime ERA. But I’ll never forget the last opening day at the Old Crosley Field when Pete Rose lead off with a homer against Drysdale, and then Bobby Tolan followed with a second solo blast. 2-0 Reds and we’re not even out of the first inning. Drysdale never gave up another run and the Dodgers ended up beating us!!!
Sports is about memories, about hope for the future, about cheering your favorite team not their freaking statistics.

I don’t get fantasy sports betting…oh wait a minute it isn’t gambling or the nfl wouldn’t be allowing this too happen…it involves skill…skill is the term that has prevented it to be called what it really is gambling. this was according to playboy magazine that had an article regarding fantasy sports several issues ago. they actually had to go to court to legalize it.

I went back and read your post. Thanks for pointing it out. It was very well thought out and well written. I’m glad you alerted me. I enjoy reading the longer posts that are thoughtful and accurate.
I think we probably agree that all of Fameis’s actions were magnified by the rape “allegation”. That’s why I’ve always said the “crab legs” were nothing more than Free Shoes U stuff…and that goes on at EVERY major Univ not just FSU. Gator fans can hardly pile on here given what has happened in their program.
All major college programs have this kind of crap. The bb guns again just kids being kids. The major issue that bothered me was yelling on the table WHILE he was under investigation. He knew he was under investigation.
But I absolutely take your fundamental point. There is no solid proof that Fameis raped anybody. Therefore the additional pub that got amplified because of that rape “allegation” should be taken with a little less judgement.
I’m back with Mariota not because of anything about Fameis off field actions or his “hot dogging”, yellling at coaches etc.
I think both players will be successful, again I agree with the ESPN “expert” wish I could remember which one, who said this draft will be like the one that brought in Matty Ice and Joe Flacco. Which of those QB’s would you rather have? Either one would do just fine. Probably the same case with Fameis and Marcus.
I’m absolutely prepared to cheer for Fameis when and if he becomes a Bucanneer.
Your post should be mandatory reading for all the Winstonites. You did a great job without simply enabling the mistakes.

I love fantasy football personally. Have won many thousands of dollars playing it over the years- since the late 90s actually. I had Ahman Green on my team for a couple of memorable championships. I don’t have any trouble rooting for the Bucs even against my starting QB. I don’t start players against the Bucs D if I can avoid it.

I’ve won multiple seasons in fantasy football, but I never play for money. And I actually quit 2 years ago because it sucks the fun out of watching games.

I stopped playing for quite a few years. Last season was the first time I played one team on NFL.com for no money or prizes. I went to the playoffs and lost. No biggie. I don’t get too excited for it or root for my player to do well against the Bucs. I start whoever I want and let the chips fall where they may. I check back with my team on Tuesdays, that’s how into fantasy football I am.

Hopefully part of that sponsorship money is going toward them boosting the availability and quality of the wifi in the stadium so the fans can enjoy FanDuel while they’re at the game.
