Bucs Players Aren’t Talking About The Draft
April 20th, 2015Gerald McCoy stood on the podium at One Buc Palace today and said his teammates are not talking about the NFL Draft on their first day back to work.
Yes, the 2015 season is underway with conditioning drills and in the weight rooms.
McCoy was adamant. The draft is not on players’ minds. And he also wanted no part of offering any opinion on the draft. McCoy was short on just about every draft query from media, though he admitted he’s given his opinions on the top-dog quarterbacks to the guys running the Buccaneers’ draft.
Despite often talking about college football and his beloved Sooners on his radio show, McCoy even said today he doesn’t watch college football. That’s how much McCoy didn’t want to talk about the draft.
Joe can’t believe players aren’t talking about the draft. Why? Because players are human, and they’re huge Bucs fans (hopefully).

The draft isn’t McCoy’s job and he’s a company man, holds the line, let L&L run it, do what they’re supposed to do and hopefully they won’t botch it up…..
That being said, remember the old adage: Hope is your worst enemy in the marketplace.

He also said he expects to be a mentor since he didn’t have that when he was drafted. Add to that he and Lovie have already spoken about the draft but he wouldn’t reveal the discussion. Great guy to mentor any young draft (Winston) pick.

Mccoy said he has given his opinion on the two qbs. I wonder if his opinion is the same as all of his teammates and former teammates that have offered up opinions ie verner and goldson. That answer was winston.

Back to work. I bet Glennon has thought about the draft a time or two. Praying for a trade down so he can finally get his legit shot at the starters job from the start of training camp. Sorry MG8. Not gonna happen. Maybe the Pats will trade for you and you can fight it out with Garroppolo trying to take over Brady’s job in a couple years…

Hopefully!!! Now that’s funny. I know at least one on the roster who isn’t. Logan mankins cough cough.
I bet you any amount of money that gmc is on team Mariota bc they’re both ducks. Translate that to Spanish and youll understand my point. Birds of a feather ….

If the Bucs haven’t instructed ALL their players to stay quiet about the draft and withhold their opinions they’re brain dead!
I have to believe that OBP has told them all to keep everything about the draft to themselves. What good could come of players saying they prefer Winston if the team drafts Mariota or vice versa.
There is absolutely no reason and no upside to any Buc offering opinions on the draft.

@WS99
I don’t understand how he’s still on the roster. Injured or that was some HORRIBLE tape that he put out last year. Even though he was trying to bounce back from an injured season- David Joseph was cut because he put out bad tape. And dude was like a pillar of the community.
Go LUV for Licht-But C’mon brotha.
……If Mankins would’ve done anything-but nod his head in agreement. When he was asked for a salary reduction.
…..CUT

Glennon should be the only player affected greatly by the draft….all others are pretty secure (except Koenen)…and I doubt we spend a pick on a punter.
Our drafted players will either provide depth or start at positions that are somewhat open…QB, Oline etc.
Yes…..players are human…and they are also fans….of course the draft is on their minds to some extent…..but that would vary greatly from person to person.

that’s a horrible take on the nfl players joe your site is great but to think that nfl veterans are thinking about what player is going to come in and help them or take their jobs is a waste of time for grown men which is why there is rookie hazing in the nfl. no one is worried about these rookies unless your name is mike glennon. if your mike glennon even if you start the season so why you know your not going to hold off a number one overall pick for very long

NFL players never talk about the draft. This is nothing new. Its like that every off season.
April 20th, 2015 at 2:46 pm
@Luther- So a DT is going to mentor a QB?Not likely. I expect it’ll be Williams he’ll be mentoring.
April 20th, 2015 at 4:14 pm
Trust me the players are talking about the potential first pick. Their whole season depends on it.

@Bucsfanman
I’m sure very few JBF’ers share our belief on Williams to Tampa with the #1 (if there are no good trade offers), but I cannot believe a defense first guy like Lovie isn’t having wet dreams about the thought of Williams and McCoy terrorizing opposing QB’s and RB’s. Very few here thought Lovie and Licht would draft all offense yet pass on a QB last draft, so it’s not insane to expect the unexpected out of these two this year. Lovie’s core belief…defense can win you 10 games, and he’s not exactly a QB whisperer.

He showed up with a red stripe in his hair? That attention whore knows he is going to have to work for that attention this year. With every one fawning over Winston, there won’t be as many cameras facing him anymore.

I made the same conclusion you made… I just think that mouth moves a bit faster than the ‘ol hamster on the wheel.
I just heard him discuss with another OU fan/former player whether Stoops needed a change of scenery. If he’s as adamant about winning as he says, no way he’s not keeping his ear to the track for a potential franchise QB on a silver platter .
