“A 10-Year Starter”
April 7th, 2015Joe brought word yesterday that the Bucs appeared hot in the pants for South Carolina guard A.J. Cann.
And the Bucs would not be alone. A renowned career game-film aficionado claims Cann is a slam dunk.
Longtime NFL Films Xs and Os guru Greg Cosell joined a draft podcast on TheMMQB.com to get detailed on offensive lineman at all positions.
The greatest glow in his voice emerged when asked about Cann.
“He’s just a really solid, efficient player. He’s one of those guys that, he may not be an All-Pro for 10 years, but he’s going to be a starter for 10 years,” Cosell said. “He’s got the desirable combination of athletic movement and power and leverage that you look for at the guard position. I think he’s a plug and play guy.”
Cosell went on to repeat that Cann is destined for a long and prosperous career.
The guy who Cosell appeared to like second most was gargantuan left tackle Andrus Peat out of Stanford.
As close draft observers know, the Bucs likely have no shot at Peat without doing something stupid like trading down out of the No. 1 overall pick. But Cann, he could be on the board or in striking distance for the Bucs.
Joe likes the sound of a proven college guard with no holes in his game that can step in and start. How soothing would that be, Bucs fans.
The only problem is the Bucs really need a left tackle who won’t get their new quarterback mamed.

I would prefer we went OT in the 2nd round and go OG in round 3, but being able to guarantee a starter by grabbing Cann might be worth it, is there any way we could trade back into the 1st without giving up our 2nd?
April 7th, 2015 at 4:12 pm
Last time I checked Walter Football had Peat (one of my faves) going 10th, out of reach for the Bucs.
But the NFL site has 4-5 guys mock drafts and a couple of them had Peat falling as far as 20th well within reach for a Bucs trade up from 34th.
The draft will really depend on other teams needs and their scouting evaluations.
There’s no way to truly know who might be available late enough in the 1st round to tempt the Bucs into moving up. I’ve seen one mock draft that now has Gregory dropping pretty far. Again if he comes from a good background and solid family the weed wouldn’t scare me away. Bo Pellini would have me visting the bong pretty regularly.

why wouldnt we bring in Barksdale from St Louis? At least fill one of the tackle positions. ???????????

The Saints (and a few other teams) have shown that good interior line play can mask some deficiencies at Tackle.
If they have Cann rated higher than an available Tackle, you take him.

@ jolly bucs fan
Trading up to the first without giving up our 2nd would cost us several picks….perhaps our 3rd & 4th with a 3rd next year or picks with a player like Martin or Glennon….it would also depend greatly on the trading partner’s needs.
April 7th, 2015 at 4:59 pm
@Joe … Tre Jackson at the top of the 3rd round is where we get the best value at guard. Take a tackle in the 2nd, My guess is TJ Clemmings if he’s still there… Ex-DE with major upside and athleticism.
April 7th, 2015 at 5:00 pm
This guy is typically always mocked mid 2nd – 3rd round range.
The top 5-10 or so OTs in general range from mid 1st to 3rd round; and top 5-10 guards/center from 2nd-4th
Knowing that I feel like the value is in trading back to the mid 2nd for someone eyeing another prospect; and getting another 4th or 5th rounder if possible.
April 7th, 2015 at 5:02 pm
Also, I see the BUCS solidifying their return game with Stefon Diggs from Maryland in the 5th. Explosive athlete since the day he hit college park, would be a 1st to 2nd rounder in 2016 if he stayed another year.
April 7th, 2015 at 5:29 pm
@Tampabaybucfan
The only a 3 & 4 gets you into the first round is if it includes next years 1 at a minimum. To get a 1 without giving up our 2 would probably be next years 1 and 2. Heck, the standard rate for a 2 is next years 1.
April 7th, 2015 at 5:39 pm
Take Cann at 34 and Ogbuehi at 65.
April 7th, 2015 at 5:48 pm
Protect Jameis at all costs!
Man the trenches!
April 7th, 2015 at 6:12 pm
No other option – LT is mandatory. Guards can be hidden in the right scheme and the Bucs can get a veteran as a holdover.
April 7th, 2015 at 6:27 pm
Jameis will handle guard, center, snap, punts, and qb no problem. Piece of cake!!
April 7th, 2015 at 6:52 pm
It’s great to be me!
April 7th, 2015 at 7:00 pm
I’m hoping to take Fisher or Erving in round two. Can if he falls in the third is fine w me. But I’m really excited about Laken Tomlinson. That dude is a horse, IMHO maybe the best overall lineman in the draft. If he makes it to us by some act’o’god in the third, you take him over just about anyone.
April 7th, 2015 at 7:29 pm
Draft this guy and develop Kadeem Edwards into Mankins’ eventual replacement. Good stuff.
April 7th, 2015 at 7:29 pm
No holes in his on field game.
Four yr starter.
Team Captain
No off field stuff.
Not sure why he is rated low enough to be a second rounder.
I would be happy with him

Sign this man up as our draft guy.
April 7th, 2015 at 8:27 pm
At first I prefered we went OT then G in rounds 2 & 3, but after thinking about it . O lineman go so quick in these rounds . Unfortunately it’s why we never have any good O lineman. By going OT, then G , it does make the most sense . However guaranteeing you get a pro bowl caliber G seems more like my cup of tea. If we go OT then guard we may not get a For sure solution at either spots . At least this way we for sure get 1 star probably . I know a lot of you hate that for sure word but it’s true . Aj Cann is for sure a future star.
April 7th, 2015 at 8:29 pm
As for Barksdale im thinking he’s only still available because of 3 possible things , he stinks , he wants too much money , or attitude problems . I’m going with the last one .
April 7th, 2015 at 9:02 pm
Oh and anyone who thinks any decent guards will still be available in round 3 are clueless. You got :
Aj Cann
Laken Tomlinson
Tre Jackson
Jarvis Harrison
Josue Mattias
We would be extremely lucky too see any of those guys names in rd 3
Gs expected to be there in rd 3 :
Mark Glowinski WV
Jamil Douglas arizona St.
Jeramiah Poutasi Utah
Those are the bottom of the barrel guards pretty much . I only trust about 8 of them or so too do well at the next level.
If we go OT in rd 2 we would probably be lucky if we got these guys :
Jake fisher Oregon
TY Sambrailo Colorodo St
Donovan smith Penn St
If we went OT rd 3 these guys :
Cedric Ogbuhei (knee injury )
Rob Havenstein WISCONSIN
Jamon brown Louisville
Tyrus Thompson Oklahoma
Chaz green Florida
It really just depends if you have dotson playing LT on opening day or RT !
I don’t trust any of the 3rd rd tackles I listed at LT I trust them all at RT. The 2nd rd tackles I listed I trust at LT or RT .
Winston
Aj Cann
tyrus thompson/Chaz green/ Cedric Ogbuhei …. Or
Winston
Ty Sambrailo
Jamil Douglas it’s you’re choice
April 7th, 2015 at 9:04 pm
Anyone know when Cedric Ogbuhei knee is progressing so far???? I mean that’s gonna be a big part of where he gets drafted too me . Will he be ready for practice by week 1 , week 6 , week 12 ???? Anyone know this answer??? It’s gonna determine whether he gets picked in the 3rd or the 6th

Random-question-that-I’m-curious-about-but-am-too-lazy-to-look-up:
Why are the Titans picking ahead of the Bucs in round 2?
April 7th, 2015 at 9:17 pm
^ Same records revolve in draft order.

87 “Protect Jameis at all costs!
Man the trenches!”
We do agree on this. Because if we do not man the trenches, we will have to deal with our potential franchise QB getting injured. Then having our back up QB come in to try and do more with less skills and preparation. And if we do what lots of folks here on JBF want it will not be a QB who we have some familiarity with because we will have trade a Good backup QB for something less than that.
If we can get this guy and he is what we have heard he might be “10 year starter” we will be on the right track in my opinion. Because if we can not run the ball when we want to, or when we need to we will not have a successful offense this upcoming season. Very hard to run play action passes if no one on the other teams defense is one bit afraid of our running game. Line up tee off on the QB. That makes for a very difficult time game planning what your wanting to do against any opponent, we must have some success trying to be balanced in our offensive game planning.
Go Bucs!
April 7th, 2015 at 10:21 pm
we need oline help, whether cann or someone else.
ps it should be maimed.
April 7th, 2015 at 10:29 pm
Bucs just signed George Johnson DE Lions.
3 year deal- rotoworld
April 7th, 2015 at 10:34 pm
*offersheet; Lions have 5 days to match; could we have a real edge rusher and QB next year?
April 7th, 2015 at 10:41 pm
I like Cann. I’m eating taco bell.
April 7th, 2015 at 10:48 pm
Moving back up to mid 1st round isn’t out of the questions with next years first and this years 2nd (34th overall) might be enough to get a GM to bite if Peat falls to the lower teens or mid twenties.
April 8th, 2015 at 10:13 am
Our young QB is going to need all the help he can get, and it is doubtful we turn this mess around in one year. Trading our top pick next year when it is probably going to be top 15 pick is shortsighted. We need help in a lot of areas but do we really want to go into next year without a first round pick?
April 8th, 2015 at 12:21 pm
Wow, so many of you have such great plans for how the Bucs should draft. I’ll tell you what, I’m going to call the Bucs front office right now and tell them that everyone one this blog site has the answers to all there questions for the draft.
Hahahahahahaha! I can’t believe most of you really think the things you have to say is what the Bucs should do. I going to call the front office though for real, and tell them if they want something to laugh about go to the JoeBucsFan blog and read about what people think this team should do. Since I have started reading what you all have to say this offseason about the draft, free agency, Jamies or Marcus or trade out. Seriously, all I have to say is that I am embarrassed to see that most of you are fans of the same team I am.
I’m sorry, maybe I was a little hard on you guys, but let try and put some intelligence to the thought process before you post.
