Miami has embraced Josh Freeman
Last year, when former Buccaneers franchise quarterback Josh Freeman signed in the spring with the New York Giants, things felt differently than when Freeman signed with the Dolphins on Thursday.
The Dolphins seem to giving the Freeman the full team embrace.
He had a media conference call, and he did an interview with the team website. You can catch that cut here. Freeman, acting like the anti-Jamies, very calmly talks about how excited he is and how “I’m just going to bring everything I got,” when it comes to succeeding on the football field.
During the media call, Freeman was peppered with various Bucs questions.
(On reports that he had an attitude issue in Tampa Bay and if there was any truth to that) –“I was a very confident player. As far as attitude, I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to.”
(On the way things happened in Tampa Bay and if he felt like he did anything wrong in terms of the way he dealt with coaches) – “No, it was a situation where the coaches went to make a change and that’s kind of the extent of how it went down.”
(On what the experience in Tampa Bay taught him about working in the NFL) – “Nothing’s ever promised in the NFL. I’ve known that from day one. It’s just a situation where, between a player and an organization where things didn’t work out. I’m going to continue to try and get better every day and leave it all out in the classroom, leave it all out on the field, give it everything I’ve got to be the best player I can be.”
(On how well he knows General Manager Dennis Hickey and if his presence played a role in him being with the Dolphins) – “I knew Dennis really well through Tampa, obviously. He’s a guy, a Kansas guy, I’ve had a great rapport with Dennis over the years. The biggest part Dennis played, he gave me a call, they brought me in for a workout and I’ve just known Dennis in the past. I felt very comfortable around him, very comfortable with the organization. He told me a lot about the team and the things they have going on. It’s a very very exciting time to be a Miami Dolphin. That’s really what was very enticing to me.”
(On his completion being in the 60 percent range in 2010-11 and it dropping after that, and why that was the case and if he’s done anything to address that) – “The thing a lot of people don’t understand is, when it comes to passing the football, there’s a lot of different offensive systems you can be a part of. The system Coach Mike Sullivan brought in, they brought in Vincent Jackson along with them, there was a real emphasis placed on throwing the ball down the field, taking shots on go balls and on deep posts. Just wanting to be very very aggressive. When you are aggressive, you look at the percentage of passes completed in the league each year and, if you throw 100 slants and you throw 100 go balls, you’re going to complete more slants. We were taking a lot of shots. We were extremely explosive. With playing that sort of ball and taking those shots, you’re risking things like the percentage maybe not being as high. At the same time, the reward is explosive plays and scoring a lot of points.”

Joe wishes Freeman well. If he can attend team meetings and put forth consistent effort, Joe has no doubt Freeman will get a starting job somewhere in 2016. The NFL is starved for talented young quarterbacks.

Funny, not too many notable players come out of the state of Kansas, Freeman no exception. Attitude issues, he had those in spades. I guess Schiano not thinking highly of Freeman’s QB ability, dared to draft Glennon. This upset Freeman’s mojo, thus the meltdown.

I mean it was really one of the strangest things I’ve witnessed as a Bucs fan…

I don’t think Freeman’s lack of success was all Schiano’s fault…but I do believe his toes on the line attitude didn’t helped. I have no idea what happened to cause this. Older adolescents and young adults can go through “trying times” psychologically which may be extremely difficult to endure. If this was the case…perhaps he received help with this. Perhaps he has got this “issue” under control. If there ever was an issue. Once again I have no idea, nor have I ever met the young man….The man was gifted with talent…no one wants to see talent wasted…I am crossing my fingers that he can succeed……Best of luck Josh!

What Free doesn’t say is they drought Sullivan for the long passing game because that was considered a strength of Free’s Don’t remember him being to adept at throwing slants and deep cut ins.
If I was Miami. I’d hold onto Matt Moore as long as possible.

It had nothing to do with Schiano and everything to do with Freeman’s “New” Off Field lifestyle. That’s why they drafted Glennon because Freeman was already showing signs of Off Field Issues. That’s why you’ve never really heard what Freeman was doing off the field from any reporters because it’s to damming, or it would be public knowledge. Which i dont understand why local and all reporters keep protecting Freeman but we know about Every Other NFL Players personal life. Makes no sense. And than Freeman and his agent threw the Bucs under the bus and also wouldn’t allow us to trade him. He totaly screwed the Bucs Fan base by his actions and I cant believe Local Reporters keep talking about what a nice guy he is. Ive had so called friends that were nice people that stabbed me in the back eventually, just because someone act’s nice doesnt make them a good person or Schiano guilty for there fall from grace. He screwed the Bucs and Fans! I dont wish him harm and i hope he does get his sh&t together but I DONT WANT TO SEE HIM ON AN NFL FIELD. EVER!

I wish the truth would come out, A lot of stuff was covered up in Rah/Dom regime that picked and backed him. A player told me that during the 2011 losing streak that a certain QB would show up an hour late and drunk to practice. But the pop-star would tell us he was first in and last out.

Right in the middle of a playoff in 2012 and going into a contract year, Free started tossing up INT’s like a paper boy delivering Sunday papers.
Then in 2013, he gets so rattled he can’t even call a simple audible to avoid a delay of game penalty.
Talk about your meltdown.

I was a huge Freeman supporter and he sh^t on me and all Bucs Fans and the whole Bucs organization. It’s a job! You go to work no matter who the coach is. If there was a problem between him and Schiano (which I believe is BS) you still got to do your job for your Teammates and Fans. Your getting paid Millions of dollars to do a job, to lead a franchise, to show up to practices, learn the offense, be a leader in the lockerroom and community. He let that all go because of Schiano? I call BS! It was all Freeman’s doing. He did’nt give to sh%t’s about what he did to the Bucs Fan base. He could have atleast left with some class but he chose to try to embarrass the Bucs organization which intern imbarrassed the Bucs Fans. Freeman made the choices. No one else. I hope he is let go before training camp starts.

I tend to judge players by how their teammates react in certain situations.
For all the talk of MM not being a leader the way his OL responded against OSU when their guy pile drove MM into the turf was a pretty clear indication of how MM’s teammates felt about him. Yes Fameis supporters his teammates love him too but I don’t bring him up because everybody here praises his leadership.
When Josh wasn’t voted to one of the captains spots that pretty much screamed out loud something was not right.

With mccown starting means the league is desperate for quarterbacks, this could get you a fill time gig just not in Miami. Best of luck and people will talk down about your obvious psychotic nature but it’s OK just say I was the starter last time bucs had a winning record, say vjack had his best career ever with you throwing the ball, say there still is no qb on the roster better than you in Tampa, say schiano was the worst coach in nfl history and you’ll have more wind than he will

Yep.It had nothing to do with trying to trade him after a 10 win season on his contract year and the fact that his agent had to tell him that they were shopping him. This all while the coach was telling him he was going to get a new contract before the year started. I’m sure that had nothing to do with it.

That kid who tried to burn our beloved organization on his way out has done zero other than sign a 1 year prove it contract to be a back up. Cool it with the premature revival of his career, atleast till he takes a step on the field as a starter, hell… till he makes it through training camp even before then lol.

1.) top 3 of the most hated bucs of all time
2.) Dominick biggest Bust ( and that is saying something!!!)
3.) most consecutive nights drunk in the club
4.) biggest liar to ever wear a bucs uniform.
And remember that we are talking about a loser trying out for his 4th NFL team, that is hoping to get a third sting job on a bad Team.
I am sure Jfro agent is an agent with someone in the front office of the Dolphins, otherwise this farce of a tryout would not happen. And when it ends during training camp Stephen M. Ross should also fire the front office person who let Side Show JFRO try out!

Freeman can bring everything but the kitchen sink but he will still be riding pine. The drama in Tampa to include the accusations that Freeman’s camp made which magically disappeared without accountability, the lazy, entitled attitude, and the fact that he’s just not that good. Add to that the last game that he started was a debacle. Freeman is camp meat and is far from guaranteed a roster spot. Let the coaches see what their working with and Hickey’s man-crush will not be securing a roster spot. I’m sorry but I’m not going to mince words and do the old cliche ” I wish the guy well” line. No, I do not wish him well. This man was given an opportunity that millions of us would dream of and he decided to be unreliable, lazy, and show poor leadership and accountability. I dot wish him well. I hope he never takes another NFL snap. Dashon Goldson I wish all the best. Josh Freeman can suck left.

Been kinda quiet on the Freeman issue myself and kind of always will. He honestly is part of the reason I pledge pewter!
I remember well being an undeclared NFL fan and taking a job in Tampa and being invited to Ray J, to see the pirate ship in live action (cuz on tv it looked epic) taking in his first tailgate experience, seeing a guy literally driving a Bucs helmet(still tell that story to this day) and falling in love with the fans first and the town next and the team soon after… He showed me potential at least and now a few years later, I’m happy he will get the chance to show that again in Miami! All the drug stuff could’ve been a factor but I think Schiano and him probably just couldn’t find a happy medium, or line adjustment audible but still once jameis and the boys get that cannon going again, we won’t care about Miamis back up to the back up… IMO

If he works as hard as I work everyday, or any other full time working adult out there then maybe he has a shot. He wasn’t in it for the game. He didn’t care about his team mates. I don’t miss this guy. He had a lot of potential and threw it all away. He will never be a starter again.

While whatever happened to Freeman that caused his implosion will likely remain unknown there is no argument that the dude has the tools. I would much rather see the guy get another chance here than the “savior” Jameis Winston. Lovie and those grinning pumpkin headed clown sons of Malcolm Glazer are only a few weeks away from busting this team down for the next decade when they don’t trade the pick and draft the rapist.

I wish Freeman could have found a way to deal with his issues. He was a great fit for Mike Sullivans vertical offense. But I can’t blame Schiano for benching Freeman. His head wasn’t in the game and he git replaced. It’s a shame because Mike Glennon really didn’t look like a fit for that scheme. Schiano had to do something to save his 0-3 season. Maybe if he had better interpersonal social skills, he could’ve helped Freeman a little more, but you can’t blame coach for that. He demanded 100 percent from all 53 players and Freeman wasn’t. I’m sure in hindsight both Freeman and Schiano would’ve done things differently.
