Bucs Keep Their Fullback
April 3rd, 2015For Bucs fans losing sleep over the team not having a bruising fullback on the roster, you may relax now. It appears the Bucs have signed one.
Old fullback Jorvorskie Lane is now the new fullback, reports Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.
So now that this issue has been resolved, are Doug Martin’s days numbered? Will the Bucs shop him for a draft pick? Package him in a deal for a draft pick? Trade Bobby Rainey who ended the season in Lovie Smith’s doghouse? Wave goodbye to Mike James?
Burning questions for Bucs fans on the first Friday of April.

Still a mystery why Lane and Rainey were unappreciated. What does one have to do to earn Lovie’s respect? (Other than having once played for the Bears)

What does one have to do to earn Lovie’s respect?
Be drafted by him.
April 3rd, 2015 at 3:19 pm
agree, Rainey got dogged out by Lovie…just cause he didnt draft him. I mean, i hope Sims excels, but Rainey is a far superior runner of the rock
April 3rd, 2015 at 3:24 pm
Oh this FB thingy HAS to mean they want a spread offense….
Surely it does!
April 3rd, 2015 at 3:24 pm
lol trade bobby rainey? really joe hahaha stop with the jokes

What does this have to do with the Winston-Mariotta debate?

Why is this new news?
PewterReport: Bucs Re-sign FB Lane; Set To Meet With CB Moore
April 3rd, 2015 at 3:48 pm
March 12, 2015 at 12:36 PM:
Moments after the press conference of new signees Henry Melton and Chris Conte, fullback Jorvorskie Lane has agreed to a one-year deal that will keep him in Tampa, per Greg Auman. The Buccaneers also have a scheduled visit with free agent cornerback Sterling Moore.

Seems like Mr. Auman is having a “senior moment.:
To clarify, this really just seems to mean Lane finally signed off on whatever was offered him. –Joe

What Trade him for a 7th round pick in 2020..We can build through the draft.
We don’t need a fullback we are getting Winston.

Good start. They have to bring someone else in to compete now. As far as Martin/Rainey go, it would be a shame if the Bucs trade either of them for mid-round picks. However, it would not surprise me at all.
April 3rd, 2015 at 5:48 pm
I like this guy.
If Lovie hadn’t tanked last year and we had an OC we probably would have seen a lot more of him.
April 3rd, 2015 at 5:49 pm
the bucs will trade doug martin and a 2017 6th rounder for a 2017 5th rounder. probably to the patriots
April 3rd, 2015 at 5:58 pm
James is the best back on the team. Shop Martin and Rainey, keep Sims he will be good third down option for rookie QB
April 3rd, 2015 at 6:05 pm
Martin still has a great forward burst. Too bad he never has holes he can run FORWARD through. Trading him away would be a BIG mistake.
April 3rd, 2015 at 6:07 pm
My vote is hold on to Martin, fix the O line, and THEN see what we’ve got.
April 3rd, 2015 at 6:21 pm
Let’s keep James!!! He is the only back that can block for our new QB… Rainey, Martin and Sims cannot block at all
April 3rd, 2015 at 6:22 pm
Why we wasted a 3rd on Sims last year when we could have had a starting lineman, I’ll never know. Hope we double up on linemen before 4th round. Peat scares me, he reminds me of Trueblood. I want a dominant lineman not just a serviceable one.

@Matt
Why we wasted a 3rd on Sims last year when we could have had a starting lineman, I’ll never know.
The official explanation…the offense was going to be predicated on speed in space. Sims can do that when healthy. In fairness he had the worst possible injury for a guy who depends totally on his wheels for….speed in space.
As far as the OL the Bucs (mistakenly in hindsight) believed they had solved the OL problem with Collins and the return of Nicks.
Sims should be given another year before passing judgement. He’ll be healthy and he’ll be playing with a real NFL OC.

Why are we trading for effing future picks? L&L may not be around to use those if they don’t figure out how to build a real offense!
April 3rd, 2015 at 9:17 pm
He reminds me of Lorenzo Neal.

Get rid of bobbling Rainey. Keep everyone else. Rainey is quick, that’s it. He cost us 2 games last year, which is fine for last year. I fact we should thank him. But moving forward you can’t have that liability on the field.
