Tony Romo has words for Jameis Winston
Being a savior of a franchise is only for storybooks and media headlines. That was the message Tony Romo had for Jameis Winston yesterday.
Undrafted in 2001, Romo knows plenty about pressure and the quarterback position. There’s no greater NFL spotlight than the one in Dallas.
Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday, Romo sounded like an old sage when the conversation turned to Jameis Winston. Joe Montana was traded, Romo reminded listeners, and lofty labels only apply before you start playing. “You’re probably never going to be the savior,” he said.
Romo, of course, had it easy early in his career. It took years before people expected much from the Eastern Illinois pickup. Winston is destined to be the No. 1 pick in the draft for a 2-14 team aching for a QB.
Romo would advise Winston “that he secret of this game is learning how to keep improving.”
Joe hopes Winston is listening, because the odds of him being great out of the gate are very slim.

I dont care what anyone says, Romo is a very under rated QB, and has grown to be a very mature football player/man. And Colin Cowturd would be happy to see a pic with his hat on forwards!!

I cannot get over how cocky Jameis Winston is! I listened to Joe & the Big Dog talk to a caller on WDAE…he had great questions about why we should bring this guy to our community. I really think the push for moral clarity is important with 16 game suspensions for domestic violence in the NFL now!
For someone who has so much off the field immaturity, you would think he might be just a little humble…tell the world he has learned from his mistakes and will work very hard to make the fans proud of him, but all Jameis talks about is how great Jameis is!
Sorry Joe! I really think we should take a pass with Mariota on the Board.

The main reason I don’t think Winston will have a successful NFL career is that I don’t think he will put in the work to continually improve throughout his career. I mean he’s already the greatest QB on the planet, right?!? Why would he need to work their ass off everyday?

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Luck, Wilson and so on……
NONE of those guys blow their own horn like Jameis the Jazz musician…….
I’m starting to NOT like the way Jameis is handling all of this….

Jameis does think highly of himself…but always acknowledges his teammates and complements them as well. Jameis is simply being Jameis and true to his character. It will be different having a quality self confident QB at the helm. Yes it seems to go against the self effacing culture the Bucs have had for years now. It will be a welcome change.

Lol Bucboy would that caller happen to have been you? Or was it simply a great question because it was in line with your view point? Hardly an original question and one that has been rehashed a thousand times. Domestic violence? Read the report sometime and then google if Jameis was ever charged with anything. Outside of an accusation that appears to have been made up there is nothing to suggest he will receive a 16 game suspension for beating up a girlfriend any time soon.

everyone that has a problem with JW needs to stop talking about his college career it’s over already and it only gives you a glimpse into his potential not who he will be as a quarterback at the next level on the field or off the field because if that were the case big ben would have been suspended for the rape accusation, now that was a cover up. never heard of von miller popping hot for peds in college but it happened in the nfl, never heard of greg hardy off field issues in college and look what he did in the nfl. college kids grow into men, some become better men then college boys some become worse when they get older. stop projecting what this guy will be in the nfl because you don’t know…..just say you don’t like him or don’t want him to be the pick and be over with. all these fake gm/college scout wanna be’s are getting on my nerves. what you can say is based on his production he will be a good player or based on the interceptions he’ll be a bad one but you don’t know like you don’t know what will happen off field…..im sure he’s decided to shut up the noise about his off field issues to get fans and media off his back, im sure he knows if he gets into trouble off field it’ll never end. he’ll work towards that goal. no one talks about mike evans getting in a fight at the club because he’s a buc and you know he’s a good player, same will happen for JW

Jameis can talk as much as he wants and the haters can hate if they choose to as much as they want. This is his on field persona and for a losing franchise it needs some bravado and self confidence. I hope he keeps it up and gives everyone who doesn’t like it the proverbial finger and keeps walking/running.

We’ve already been through that, it was nicknamed the josh freeman era. sorry but this guy is light years ahead of freeman. kinda childish considering he didn’t throw 10 interceptions the year he won the Heisman but no one wants to talk about that year. no one talks about matt ryan and the fact that his interceptions increased each year of a 4 year career to 19 interceptions. you don’t know anything. bucs have made bigger mistakes if you know anything about the bucs but to say it before the pick is in……lol as long as you realize it’s an opinion and you don’t know anything sure go for it but you sound bitter….hmmm guess we lost another bucs fans but you’ll be back when the season begins

I see a cocky guy with conditioning problems..please give me one example of a great QB in the modern football era with these type of qualities because I can give you several terrible busts that had these exact traits.

Besides the rape allegations, Jameis has had it pretty easy so far in his college career. The NFL will give him some perspective and humility. So, I think he will shut up once he gets a taste. But, I think he will have a very successful career in Tampa. Im excited. Go Bucs

Romo is wise. Keep it in perspective…JW is only 20 years old. I think everyone can recall being brash or immature at that age and he has not had any failure yet. The Bucs will take care of that as he learns his way of the NFL shield. He is a young jedi. Give him time to learn the way of the force.
