Who Tailed Jameis Winston?
March 31st, 2015Really cool if not intriguing story just popped a few minutes ago on TheBigLead.com.
It seems, per NFL investigative reporter Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports, Winston’s personal quarterback guru, George Whitfield, claimed an NFL team has been hiding in the bushes, in so many words, tailing Jameis Winston.
Per Robinson, by way of Joe’s good friend Jason McIntyre, the sultan of TheBigLead.com, Winston was followed by a representative of an unknown team on one of his NFL Scouting Combine flights (it is not clear whether the fight was from San Diego to Indianapolis, or Indianapolis back to San Diego.) Whitfield has his quarterback boot camp based in San Diego.
Whitfield claims he learned of this when he an NFL team called him to tell him it was following Winston on a flight to see how he interacted with the public by himself.
Or maybe they wanted to know what kind of beer Winston drinks on a domestic flight?
Whitfield did not out the team that called him. Perhaps was it the Bucs?
Intrigue! Drama! Suspense!

This is borderline creepy now.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:13 pm
Any team that wants him should do this. I would have people follow him for days.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:15 pm
I wonder if they saw him helping the disabled man with his wheelchair in indy?
March 31st, 2015 at 6:20 pm
You can also watch Jamesis workout with Mariucci on nfl network at 9 pm tonight.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:26 pm
A buddy of mine is a coach up at FSU and he was interviewed by the bucs a little while ago regarding Jameis and he is not an asst football coach nor involved with the football program
March 31st, 2015 at 6:27 pm
I’m sure Winston was adviced about this possibility. That’s why he helped push an old mans wheelchair.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:38 pm
Why are these guys so polarizing? You can’t believe any media outlet on this QB debate. Some say Winston is great while knocking down Mariotta. Others say just the opposite. Same with the reader comments I see on various sites.
All right! I get it! Everyone has an opinion and at least half are going to be wrong! Enough already. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
March 31st, 2015 at 6:41 pm
Discrimination………I bet the are not tailing Mariota……oh wait…..

@Idontwannahearit
Everyone has an opinion and at least half are going to be wrong! Enough already. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
Agree with the last part completely…enough already indeed!!!!
However there is one possibility that is truly delicious to ponder. BOTH prospects turn out to be great and meet in the SB. Then it’s more than half of this board…more like 90%. There are some, TBBF and Bonzai who have acknowledged that both could be stars or busts…and others I’m sure…but you’re correct far too many have offered far too much support for their choice and far too much hostility for the QB who is not their choice.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:50 pm
Oh wait… What all races are treated the same? Why do people think Mariota is black? Samoan and German doesn’t equal black.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:50 pm
dang I’m not even sure the CIA does that before you become an operative.
March 31st, 2015 at 6:53 pm
“Winston was followed by a representative of an unknown team on one of his NFL Scouting Combine flights”
Joe, I didn’t know you were now an official representative of the Bucs! 🙂
Who else could it be but you?
March 31st, 2015 at 7:01 pm
Saw clips of his workout, if the opposing defensive linemen use brooms instead of tackling, Jameis has it made.!!!!
March 31st, 2015 at 7:05 pm
The end just can’t get here soon enough.
March 31st, 2015 at 7:10 pm
I agree Tom it was a pretty impressive workout watching him move around in the pocket and make throws while under simulated pressure.

You, my friend, are a pathetic person. Who in the hell do you think you are to judge someone you’ve never met. You’re not sure of jack sh!t. I feel sorry for you.

Maybe it’s a private investigator hired by the supposed rape victims attorney.
March 31st, 2015 at 7:45 pm
This reminds me of a story that Mark Dominick told us how they had people follow draft picks around secretly to see how the prospects acted when nobody was looking.
March 31st, 2015 at 7:50 pm
This is nothing new. Teams have employed investigators to tail potential draft picks for years. Winston is the most polarizing though.

hey…we might ALL be wrong…Winnybooboo and Mariota might BOTH suck…will be a hoot to watch this play out over the next 3-4 years

Speaking for Pablo
“Pablo has been tailed and Pablo didn’t like it at all. Once Pablo was in Kmart and some man (had brea$ts, but still think it was a man)….Pablo went from hardware to electronics then tried to loose the tail by going to the garden center…..Pablo left Kmart without buying anything….Pablo thinks he was profiled”
March 31st, 2015 at 8:05 pm
In an unrelated matter… Mariota willl stay in Hawaii for the draft.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:05 pm
@bffl
No such word as adviced smart guy.
And you think you are smarter than Jameis Winston?
March 31st, 2015 at 8:09 pm
Mariota staying home for the draft. Ok BSPN are you going to rip him a new one for that too?
Thought not.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:12 pm
Winston left the door open to attending the draft today…..said it was still up in the air….lots of pressure to attend…
I believe his agents will push for an early contract in return for his attendance….I think they can put Grandma on a private jet and keep her insulin in the fridge for her….I’d like to see him there.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:14 pm
Agreed, I’m not surprised at all. I bet every high-caliber prospect or prospects with question marks are tailed. It’s the smart thing to do, especially if you’re going to throw money at someone who might or might not rise to the next level. I’m sure most players know of the possibility, but some of those players are dumb enough to do stupid things while waiting for the draft anyway. I’d be more interested in tailing Mariota than Winston. I’d be ever so curious to see how his calm and soft-spoken personality affects those around him.
Personally, I’m totally sold on Winston. He has work to do, but you can’t teach or train charisma. The guy simply oozes leadership and it’s exactly what the Bucs need. We need a vocal leader, a QB that players on offense will gladly follow into battle. A lead by example, quite guy won’t cut it in my opinion, that’s why I have reservations on Mariota.
Would I be mad if we pick Mariota instead? No, not at all. Ultimately, I just think that we have to draft a QB no matter what. Neither of them ever played an NFL game, so right now all the talk, criticism and petty bashing is pure speculation, if not a complete waste of time. We just gotta wait and see what happens on the field, that’s all that matters.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:18 pm
Wow…can’t believe Mariota is staying home. What is he hiding? Is he afraid of falling in the draft? Dude could possibly be the top pick in the draft and chooses to stay home.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:25 pm
Elle
Thank so much that was very well written and thoughtful. You should know that it has been determined by the anti-Winston crowd that ALL females hate him and would NEVER want him in TB. So, I’m sorry but you’ll just have to change your opinion cuz “nybucfan” said so. Jk

He is only 20 so I hope he was not drinking a beer on the flight.

TBBF…I say he gets inked to a contract within the next 2 weeks.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:31 pm
And then I want my Winston jersey Erik….
March 31st, 2015 at 8:33 pm
Mariota must be worried about being booed off the stage or the Commissioner told him he couldn’t go.
March 31st, 2015 at 8:35 pm
“My grandmother is everything to me”
Can a guy who says that really be that bad?
March 31st, 2015 at 8:38 pm
Joe. Was it you? By writing the article are you trying to cover your tracks, I mean man crush?
March 31st, 2015 at 8:41 pm
Hmmmmm….the draft willl sure seem different if more 1st rounders choose not to attend.
March 31st, 2015 at 9:03 pm
According to Jameis his Grandmother has had multiple surgeries and has type -2 diabetis.
Lots of folks suffer that way with multiple surgeries due to lack of circulation.
So can we agree that it is a legit reason?
Geez.

WS99,
I genuinely believe that Winston has made mistakes like every American teenager or young adult. Now he’s ready to move forward and focus on being an NFL QB, with all that it entails. The rape allegations don’t particularly concern me. Presumption of innocence is something I value and I trust the legal system. Plus, I know that my gender can be pretty devious and petty. On a personal note, I just believe that women need to stop being wusses and learn how to physically defend themselves, should the need arise, but I’ll stop here as I don’t want to go off-topic.
In short, as a female fan I’m perfectly comfortable with Winston. I’d be very happy with him under center. Just to be perfectly clear, I’d support Mariota the same way. I’m not gonna get into this Winston vs Mariota business, it’s all pointless to me. I have a preference and that’s it. As I mentioned, both have much to prove and I’m not going to judge until I see hard facts that only actual NFL games can provide.

I think Eric is in love.
No offense.

So Winston wants to stay home, gives a perfectly legit reason, and he is a bad guy. Mariota stays home (which is 5000 miles away) and those same people are quiet about it. Ok, that makes sense. I think it’s totally fine that both stay home, it’s completely up to them. But this Winston hate is ridiculous. Love him or hate him, he is most likely to be our first pick in the draft. If you want to b!tch and moan, then go ahead and make yourself miserable. It’s stupid and I will never understand it, but whatever makes you happy (or miserable). How anyone can watch that kid and not love his charisma is beyond me. He walked up to all in attendance, introduced every single receiver there, and thanked everyone for attending. He got water for his receivers as well. He could have very well been coached to do that, but if you had watched him play any in college, that kind of behavior towards his teammates wouldn’t surprise you. Besides, there are a lot of guys that if told to do that would either refuse, or come off really fake doing it. Jameis did neither.

Here is food for thought. He supposedly drugged girl raped her she didn’t know where she was. Accepted a ride home from dude that just raped her while she was drugged and unaware where she was and he supposedly never met her before so how did they make it to her house or close enough to her house where she knew she shouldn’t take him all the way so he knows where she lives. If a dude just raped me I’m not getting on a scooter with him. And If I was that messed up for me not to stop it when I came to I damn sure wouldn’t be getting a ride I think I would have it from there hoss And why would I try to take a girl to her house on my moped that I just raped and drugged if I had no clue where she lived. I have had random encounters with chicks and has to do the uncomfortable wait until my he morning to take then home and that is consensual

i atleast feel comfortable with saying the bucs did their due diligence, not ready to say Winston will be a star but he is charismatic
April 2nd, 2015 at 2:24 am
Mark Dominik told a story on the Herd on Wednesday about how the team followed WR Justin Blackmon (later drafted by the Jaguars) to a bar after he was already known to have a drinking problem. Obviously that threw up red flags and the team took him off their board. Whether the story is true or not and whether Dominik is trying to set himself up for another front office job, who knows.
I’m certainly in favor of a team doing their due diligence, except fire the guy (firm) who got spotted by Winston. Obviously he’s been told by his agent that he’s probably going to be followed so don’t try to to play grab ass with the stewardess on a commercial plane a month before the draft.
