Jameis Watch: Always Excited
March 29th, 2015Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon.
It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback ever to wear No. 5 in the state of Florida.
Last week, Lovie Smith downplayed the importance of Jameis Winston’s pro day, scheduled for Tuesday at Florida State University. However, it is a big deal to Winston’s college coach, Jimbo Fisher, who said Winston will be all fired up to get on the field.
Spring football was in the air last week at FSU, and that meant Fisher was surrounded by reporters and fielding a few questions about Winston. He explained that Winston is football-crazed. Similarly, Lovie called Winston a “football junkie” at the NFL Owners Meetings last week.
“Oh, yeah. Heck, Jameis, if you want to play ball, if you want to go play in the parking lot, he’d be excited,” Fisher said of Winston. “Have you ever seen him not excited to play? And if he played in the parking, lot, if he played in the park, if it was a pickup [game], Jameis [and four FSU teammates named], they just want to play. You know what I’m saying? They don’t care if there’s 100,000 people or there’s [nobody] and they’re at the park. They just like to play.”
As for Winston’s excitement level, Lovie illustrated that with his hands to Joe and two other reporters at the NFL Owners Meetings last week in Phoenix. Lovie was talking about his face-to-face time with Winston and how Winston is fired up about all things football. Lovie was beaming while using a gesture with both hands that usually means settle down.
No, pro days don’t mean much, but they do represent another opportunity for top prospects to impress on the field and before loads of media. Joe plans to attend Tuesday’s workout and will share whatever insight that can be gleaned.
To hear all of Fisher’s pro day talk, start the video below at the 4:50 mark.

Jameis loves football and is willing to work very hard to be the best he can be. His work ethic is well established. His leadership qualities and desire/ability to lead his team to victory are well known. His incredible knowledge and understanding of the game is becoming known and acknowledged. When you combine all that with his skill set and what he has put on tape – how could any Bucs fan not be “excited” that Jameis Winston will be playing quarterback for the Buccaneers next year?
March 29th, 2015 at 4:09 pm
Tebow is always excited to play ball too……..aaaaand …Go!
March 29th, 2015 at 4:12 pm
Because some of us believe that character matters. I don’t want to have to constantly defend my teams QB because of off field issues.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:13 pm
Tebow….LMFAO

@charactermatters
Love Tim Tibow, but he was never pro ready as Winston already is. Jameis Winston has the desire and talent to potentially be the building block to help initiate the change of this team’s fortunes around.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:20 pm
I’m not advocating for Tebow, just pointing out that excitement to play does not an NFL QB make.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:22 pm
I remember another dude that loved the game so much they had to put a clause in his contract. “For the love of the game”. He turned out to be pretty good.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:24 pm
Implying that someone doesn’t consider character because they prefer Winston is humorous as well.
Im sure you’re hating (Sarcasm) accused Treon Harris as well.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:26 pm
There are enough character issues without considering the accusation.

@charactermatters – What if your perceptions of Jameis’ “character” were incorrect?
If L&L and the Glazers through exhaustive research and a lot of expense to do so come to the conclusion that Jameis Winston is not an character risk – then he will be drafted #1.
If they have found something that they are uncomfortable with – something that indicates an actual future problem – then Jameis will not be drafted. Simple as that – as Lovie would say. The Bucs liked Manziel as a QB last year – but knew better than to draft him based on their research. His substance abuse was a legitimate “character” problem.
The Glazers have always said and usually shown that good “character” is important to them. We all know how Lovie is in that regard. You just have to trust that the people who own and run this particular $1Billion+ business will not lightly or carelessly make the decision to draft a perceived character risk to lead that entity and be the media’s “face” of it.
Who ever’s name is called on draft day will tell you what the results of all that research indicated. If its Winston – then you likely don’t have to worry about any “character concerns”. If the Pick is anyone other than Winston – then the Bucs found something that they couldn’t take a risk on.
I find that damn near every time – the people who like Winston the least – are the ones who have done the least personal research about Winston the person – and about whatever “incidences” are coloring their perception that he has bad “character”.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:41 pm
@charactermatters
I’m sure if there were any doubts of any present character issues or discretions of Winston you would put that out there for all to view. We give you this opportunity now to present them to us.

I’m so tired of hearing this Mariota BS it’s not even funny. Mariota is soft, fragile and most definitely not a baller. Actually on second thought he might fit right in. No QB in the league reads a DE. Unless we magically get marshawn lynch to come to Tampa that chit ain’t gonna work.
These clowns want a qb who is a nice guy off the field for what? So you can keep losing ON the field. JFC every fckn year it’s the same chit, keep making this team worse n worse n worse.
Count your lucky stars that Winston actually wants to play here unlike anyone else in the fckn league. Even Mariota trying to slide down to philly or ANYBODY else. Get a fckn clue or just STFU!!!!

March 29th, 2015 at 4:43 pm
I’m curious to see if JOE will continue the Jameis watch after we draft Mariota. One cool thing you could do JOE is a WinstonWatch, and have a timer up counting how many days until hes out of the league.
March 29th, 2015 at 4:58 pm
@Pickgrin
i agree with your thoughts on this matter. I don’t believe that the Buccaneers will select a poor character Player to be the face of the franchise. If they do select Winston I have no choice but to believe that he has just been in the bad habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However, this does point to immaturity if not poor character and that is not conducive to success in the NFL either. If they do make that selection I hope I’m wrong about the character and that he somehow finds the fast track to maturity.
@P’cola
Let’s not be coy and pretend none of these things happened. Here is no need to run down the list because if u were honest with yourself you would have already dug them all up. I have done so and must admit that other than the accusation the other issues are not the worst things in the world, but do point to a sense of entitlement if nothing else.
At the end of the day I believe that character also matters to the Buccaneers so if they do select Winston I must believe that he’s just extremely immature.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:00 pm
Or how bout the Winston Winedown!
March 29th, 2015 at 5:05 pm
So is it poor character that someone has made it pretty clear they do not want to be a Buccaneer? And you still want to draft the person who looks at Tampa drafting him as a dreaded thing?
March 29th, 2015 at 5:08 pm
This artical made me go back and listen again to Jimbo’s defense of Winston and the character assination by the media. Here is what I have witnessed over the last few years. Jimbo has been a tremendous influence on Winston’s life. Through all the dumb things Winston did, Jimbo was there offering guidance, support and mentorship. Seeing Jimbo on the sidelines wraping his arms around him whispering advice in his ear, I couldn’t help from being impressed with the man that Jimbo is. If we are lucky, we find one or two men in our lives that tremendously influence us and help us chart our course through our careers or life. I think Jimbo is that guy for Jameis. 5, 10, 20 years from now, I am quite sure that Jameis’s will look back and realize his life has been all the better for having been coached by a man like Jimbo Fisher.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:12 pm
@Boltisle
Other than Dante Fowler what player has made it clear that they don’t want to be a Buccaneer?
March 29th, 2015 at 5:13 pm
@charactermatters
A sense of entitlement is often seen with many athletes, curious as to why you single out Winston. It’s also may I point out a criminal offense to falsely accuse Winston of offenses not proven in a court of law. It equals to libel. You would be if it gets that far asked to defend your statements and further questioned why you singled out Winston regarding the issue of entitlement which might be seen as a personal attack. These posts are very public. Many who are pro Winston such as myself would gladly accept Mariota as the first pick as well….simply not our 1st choice. We want the best for the Bucs. But please be careful how you present your case. Go Bucs.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:20 pm
He has given strong implications that it would be great to play for the Jets and Eagles and been lukewarm at best when discussing Tampa.
Its clear that Tampa is not his top preferred destination based on how he speaks of the three franchises and the importance, or lack there of, in being the first pick. Not saying I blame him if that is what he really feels.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:22 pm
If you wanted to see Winston excited then you should of seen him after the covered up his many indiscretions.

Accusation: Sense of entitlement Evidence: Didn’t pay for crab legs but felt entitled to take them anyway, didn’t pay for soda but felt entitled to take it anyway (although I must admit this one seemed more like him showing off)
I’m sure if u looked into the vandalism issue you can find a sense of entitlement in this case too.
I think there is enough evidence in my favor to clear me of libel LOL
March 29th, 2015 at 5:26 pm
P’cola – I think those comments would be much better suited to a troll like barry.
I don’t think charactermatters is being too out of line or crossing boundries at all. My guess though is that he has not done the research into Winston that those who advocate most strongly for him have.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:32 pm
@BoltIsle
To be fair Winston gave the same response when asked the same question in the same situation. In his response to the ? asked prior MM said that he would love to play for the Bucs.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:39 pm
I am seeing the error of my ways. I have been going to counseling for the past few weeks. It has been brought to my attention that I am the bastard son of Boy George. My Mother (The Monster) was a Culture Club groupy in the 80’s.
DADDY doesn’t want anything to do with me, he says I’m too effeminate.
So I just hang out in my basement with Robert 9 and SuperSam and we masturbate.

Anyway, I believe that Mr. Winston will be the best choice for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Go Jameis!

I can’t say if I have done as much research as you and definitely am not capable of doing as much research as the Buccaneers will, but I have done my share of looking into things as well as I am able. Obviously the worst possible negative on his character would be if the rape accusation is true so I have looked into that the most. After my research I could find nothing to make me sure of his innocence or his guilt. Because I cannot be sure of his guilt I cannot fairly hold that against him. I have looked into the other incidents as well but not as thoroughly. These incidents lead me to believe he has a sense of entitlement.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:53 pm
@charactermatters
The sense of entitlement is seen in many many college star athletes. My question is why single out Winston in these cases. Whole towns enable at times the star athlete. It is far from a Winston only issue. Singling him out on such entitlement is zeroing in on a common occurance seen in American society and doing so shows a bias attack on the man, presenting it as an uncommon occurrence. Your beef therefore should be on the vast majorities of communities that enable and not on one athlete alone.
March 29th, 2015 at 5:53 pm
charactermatters – If you had truly looked into the rape accusation – then you would have no problem with it at all. Erica Kinsman did not tell the truth about multiple key things and facts prove this. Her accusation of “rape” was baseless and without merit. All available evidence and witness testimony backs up Winston’s statements about what happened that night.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:00 pm
Good I hope he’s excited to play somewhere else lol
March 29th, 2015 at 6:02 pm
P’cola
His sense of entitlement is not the crime, it is seed that led to the crime.
It manifested itself in true concerns that required attention. These things were not imaginary. He stole. That’s a fact and that’s a crime. He participated in vandalism. That’s a fact and that’s a crime. The sense of entitlement is no crime.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:09 pm
Many kids do dumb things in college and get into trouble. The thing we all know is that many of us caused a lot more trouble than we got into. We get away with alot before we meet consequences. These is why the number of incidents in such a short period of time concerns me. Again I am not even considering the accusation.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:11 pm
@pickgrin
I agree that charactermatters does not come across as Barry does. I’m pointing out that such a bias as a sense of entItlement, which is so common in the college and pro ranks is not a reason not to draft a player. As an example, I personally find it distasteful if a player is overly conceited however it’s his play on the field that should be considered. I find some of the personal attacks on Winston are made when Mariota supporters can’t make a case for him regarding who is the better on field talent. Just want to keep things just and fair.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:12 pm
This is why^^ not these
March 29th, 2015 at 6:12 pm
I don’t know what movie will be out that I want to see but I will go see one during the draft because I think the Bucs will bypass JM. I think that they will end up picking MM or someone else I mean why would anyone want to play coy with a pick they were sure of. Anything could happen
March 29th, 2015 at 6:21 pm
Charactermatters: funny, when I look at the other issues other than the rape accusation, I see the immature actions of a young college freshman/sophomore. Sad things is most college kids act with a sense of entitlement. Most are there on their parents dime while partying and acting like twits. I think Jameis was just living the college life without the realization that he was under intense public scrutiny.
I have no doubt that if this kid was a true ass, you would not see Jimbo so publicly defend him. He is a more likely a good kid that acted like with immaturity and has likely learned his lesson. No reports or alcohol or drug abuse with this kid.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:26 pm
For the high character judges, is there a statute of limitations on when he will be cut some slack? It’s been 6 months now with no issues, and we know that is not enough, so I was wondering if there is an adequate time frame.
He’s paid the legal price for the stone crabs, served an adequate suspension for the yelling and done restitution for the BB gun incident.
Maybe he’s learned something?
March 29th, 2015 at 6:27 pm
QB is not a priority for Lovie and there are too many influential voices in his ear. I have watched Lovie for 9yrs in Chicago and I know he is a great coach even if some don’t. However, for some reason as coach of the Bucs he likes jerking the chains of the fans there which was amusing then annoying and now just confusing/angry. What the hell is gonna do I mean this sh** has gotta stop.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:27 pm

You wouldn’t be StPeteBucFan, would you?
March 29th, 2015 at 6:28 pm

you’re correct and these things could all fall into the category of trying to fit in with the crowd. If he is the Buccaneers selection I hope that’s all it is and that I am completely wrong. It IS encouraging that there are no substance abuse issues. That would be a far greater concern.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:35 pm
mountains out of molehills. such high character passing judgement on minor matters that he has explained. sorry they do not fit your moral code. so glad you have never done anything wrong, because in your eyes, that is a sense of entitlement. let us hope you can stay hidden and that your past does not get blasted all over the web for all to judge.
do you speed? check your cellphone while driving? same thing. you think you are entitled to put other’s lives at risk.

I’m sure Winston checks his cellphone while speeding to so I guess I’ll add that to his list of flags. Thanks! I almost missed that one! LOL
March 29th, 2015 at 6:46 pm
SuperSam: would you take Maiota over Luck, Brady, Manning? If not, please explain. His numbers are far superior to theirs.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:51 pm
Actually it was Mariota with the big speeding violation. What a creep!
March 29th, 2015 at 6:53 pm
wow, deflect much? nice non-answer. so i guess you do. hmmmmmmm, so maybe you should change your name. so easy to use a double standard, especially anonymously, where your actions, however small, are not blasted all over the net.
March 29th, 2015 at 6:57 pm
Lurker,
the incident that screams sense of entitlement more than anything is the one least talked about. Stealing the crab legs is excused by saying he had the hook up and the employee didn’t know, but how do you excuse the Burger King incident? This goes beyond just theft. This was theft and being a bully. AND I’m sorry but theft concerns me much more than speeding .
March 29th, 2015 at 6:58 pm
Tebow is always excited to play ball too…
And if Timmy wants to play in the NFL we should approach him with the truth.
He’s a freaking great athlete, superior teammate, and high character guy! But he ain’t an NFL QB. That’s just the sad but true fact. Now if Timmy can accept that we should have him in camp in a heartbeat.
Tebow would be an excellent gate keeper. And he could toss a second pass better than the N.E. Wide receiver. Tebow has an inadequate arm for an NFL QB. He has an excellent arm for any other position. Double passes would be easy for him. If the trick worked and the receiver was running free Timmy could hit him. It’s one thing to hit small windows and anticipate exactly when they open and close. It’s another thing to fling it to an open receiver.
In addition Tebow was a strong runner. He could be great for YAC after receiving from the TE or even split positions. He could block as an FB…run the ball from the wildcat…he would give Koetter an incredible wild card everytime he lined up. He would occupy any defense coordinators thoughts.
And of course the PR would be off the charts!!! A former FSU Heisman tossing the rock to a former UF Heisman in Tampa FLORIDA.
I still do not see why we do not give this a shot. Other than the fact we may have to wait one more season before Timmy sees the light and realizes he’s not going to ever get on the field if he sticks to the delusion he’s an NFL QB.
March 29th, 2015 at 7:10 pm
“AND I’m sorry but theft concerns me much more than speeding .”
then your priorities are outta whack! he put soda in a water cup. anything more than that? so a $2.00 cup of soda for free vs you putting yourself, family, and others at risk? again, you are making mountains out of molehills. i think your speeding is more dangerous, as do many others including police, insurance research, news channels vs putting soda in a water cup. you both acted like you can get away with it.
so again, please spare me your holier-than-thou he is more evil/wrong that you when your poor character puts others at risk of real, not perceived, danger.
March 29th, 2015 at 7:11 pm
And for complete disclosure I generally stay under the speed limit having learned from previous habits of driving over that’s it’s benifits are minor while consequences may be great. That does not mean I haven’t even recently caught myself going over but this is normally more accidental than anything. Most of the time I set my cruise. I tend to drive in the middle lane for this reason. I don’t text or read on my phone while moving. I use my turn signal most of the time even before turning into my driveway. I say most of the time because I see no point in using my turn signal when no one is around. I know! It’s still the law and I’m a criminal! OR AM I? NO WAIT! OUR SOCIETY CONSIDERS THESE THINGS MINOR INFRACTIONS AND NOT CRIMES AT ALL. Juse pay a fine. Anything else You’d like to know about me?
March 29th, 2015 at 7:14 pm
It’s good that Winston is excited to play even when there’s no one looking considering the number of bucs fans in RJS
March 29th, 2015 at 7:17 pm
Again you try to minimize what he did! I have seen many steal soda from fountains. This went way beyond that! Think about what it would take for you to call the police about seeing someone steal soda. We all know it goes well beyond that.

This practice has been taking place at Burger king for over 30 years and I am sure Burger king and Mcdonalds are aware. They don’t care though because its peanuts to them. If they did not want that to happen, they would have put the soda machines behind the counter. They don’t care. They will let the moral honks cry over soda while they make their billions. FYI……………………………..Tebow had no talent and thats why he was not a successful nfl qb. Winston has talent and excitement to play the game. You can’t compare the two.
March 29th, 2015 at 7:35 pm
Yet the Buger King manager called 911? Again this went beyond just stealing soda.
March 29th, 2015 at 7:38 pm
Check the Publix video again. Then when your done re-check iy. That package was pre-packaged for Jameis prior to even entering the store…..there was nothing sneaky about it at all.
Check the video again….was he looking suspicious or anything…? Nope.

4-5 players from FSU decide to have a BB gun fight and Jameis was one of them. Shame on those 19 year old kids…

Hmmmm… Where are you getting your information?
The call came in from a non emergency line and the store manager did not press charges.

Stealing soda from ketchup cups….OH THE HORROR of it all.

Tickdr – If Glennon is traded on draft day – will you ever post on JBF again?
Ok – I’ll play although like ’87 said – it’s too early to be making any real predictions – but I will give it a shot anyway.
My way too early prediction for Jameis Winston in 2015 (If the Bucs draft him and if he starts all 16 games) is 27 TDs and 17 Ints.
——————————————————————————
Thanks for responding!
First, since I have season tickets in the East Club Section 234, I suspect I will remain a Bucs fan for many years to come, and in fact will support whomever is wearing their uniform, even though I certainly have my opinion about who is playing well or not. I love the Joe Bucs Fan site just as much, even though I often DISAGREE with their takes. Even though I post only sparingly, I actually read every single article and every single response. I’m usually too busy to post during normal working hours, and that is why most of my posts are at the end of the day when threads have already passed me by. Surprisingly, my wife feels it is much better for my mental health to spend my time reading the JBF comments, rather than get so agitated by reading the political news blogs and comments. LOL. So, yes I expect I will post some in the future, especially if MG8 is traded and “blossoms” elsewhere.
As to your prediction, I am surprised you “lowballed” Jameis Winston with only 27 TDs and 17 INTs. By comparison, “ol’ cement shoes” had 25 TDs and only 15 INTs in his first 16 starts. Don’t you think the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck, Heisman trophy winner, only one loss his entire college career, the first overall pick in the 1st round of the NFL draft, the consensus “savior” of the franchise should do better than ONLY two more TDs and 2 more INTs than MG8, a lowly 3rd round pick who never did anything in college. Plus he will have VJax, Evans, and ASJ —– the Dunkaneers, as well as an entire draft for offense last year, and a shiny new, experienced OC in Koetter, and any additional OL help they draft or pick up. Oh I almost forgot—– he will also have the IT factor too!

Yet the Buger King manager called 911? Again this went beyond just stealing soda.
———————————–
The assistant manager made the call. The real manager decided not to press charges. Why? Because its not that big a deal to Burger King the corporation. You had a scared “white” girl panicking. She said so on the tape. I am a 5 foot white girl etc. Again Burger King would have to file millions of law suits daily. How do they fix kids stealing soda? Move the damn machines. It will probably cost them more to prosecute or move the machines then they lose from college, high school and junior high students putting soda in a water cup. Move on, nothing to see here.

I have had several friendly discussions in this thread and while in disagreement with some I don’t think I’ve been disagreeable. I have not passed final judgement on Mr. Winston, only pointed out my concerns. But for some reason you have felt the need to call me names and go after my character. Any particular reason why? Mistaken identity? I have never made any comments personal to another poster so if you are confusing me with someone who attacked you personally I’m not that guy.

Occasionally you’ll have new posters come in and start bashing the site or it’s posters, then you will see me jump to action. Because this is my home, I won’t let some outsider come in here a F with my home and Buc family.

For anyone that doubts Winston’s character I STRONGLY urge you to read this article….
Do the research!
Copy and paste this into your google search : How Do Folks in Jameis Winston’s Hometown See Star QB Now?
If you want to know more about his character and how much shame he has brought on his hometown….read it. Then come back to JBF and change your effing name.
I might change my name again. To perhaps 87SaysMariotaHasNoCharacter.

Yes, maybe indivually these incidents could be called minor, but when you add them all up you have to be at least a little concerned or you’re not being honest with yourself. Again I hope these are just maturity issues because he is very talented and a charismatic person, but even maturity issues must be taken into account when picking #1 overall.
March 29th, 2015 at 8:27 pm
@charactermatters
I am sorry, but I can’t condemn a 19 year old for playing with BB guns. Was it immature/idiotic? Yes, but it does not equate to bad character. I am a grown man who once played wrestling in the parking lot of a friends apartment complex. Things got a little rough and we made a dent in one of the people’s car who was at the same party. You know what? Me and the other gentleman paid the $ to fix the car that week just like Winston and his friends had to pay for the BB gun fight. Things happen. It doesn’t mean questionable character. Especially when the hook up is involved. The media needs to sell paper and clicks to their website. Stating Winston stole as oppose to the hook up equals more clicks. Its as simple as that.
March 29th, 2015 at 8:32 pm
My concerns come from a personal perspective. Jameis reminds me a lot of my brother (though my brother is no star athlete). He has all kinds of talent and charisma. He got in trouble for a lot of small things growing up and I love him to death And think he is a good person at heart. He always had a smile and people gravitated toward him. He was cocky and talked his way out of a lot of trouble. But as he grew older and life hit him with tough times his small problems became larger. I love my brother and think he’s really a good person, but I would never hire him to work for me. Maybe I’m completely wrong, but these are some of my reasons to pause and think twice.
March 29th, 2015 at 8:39 pm
Stop arguing guys. Winston told us all he’s a great person. Just like every great person throughout time has had to do to remind us all what they are. Winston said he’s a great person and that’s good enough for me!
March 29th, 2015 at 8:39 pm
Winston reminds me of pretty much every kid growing up with his pattern of behavior, where you act one way in front of adults by not cussing and all of that, and then another way with you friends where its anything goes. That’s what his pattern of behavior reminds me of, minus the rape allegations. The kid just has some growing up to do. Hopefully being around guys like Lovie and VJ will help him mature.

March 29th, 2015 at 9:04 pm
tickdr – I was just trying to be realistic. And its nothing more than a guess. Most rookies struggle to a degree and make mistakes due to inexperience no matter how talented.
Glennon’s TD/Int stats are not the problem. His lack of mobility, inaccuracy on too many throws – especially longer ones, and inability to lead his team to victories are problems.
That TD/Int stat of Glennon’s is surprising if you put on any given tape of any given Bucs game over the last 2 years and watch him play. That particular stat looks way better than the quarterback throwing them does.
As I said in a previous thread, “Even MGMers once they watch Winston play will be like – Oh – OK – I see what you mean…”
The kid is good and he slings the rock better than any prospect we’ve seen come out in quite some time.
Glennon is careful with the football. That is clear from his stats and is a very good quality for any NFL QB. But its not enough to just take care of the ball. That’s called a game manager – and game managers don’t win Super Bowls unless all other conditions are perfect.

“Pablo believes everyone has missed the meaning of the article “Always Excited”….
Pablo thinks that might be what they mean in those ED commercials where there is a possibility of 4 hours er*ction. Pablo is always excited without a pill. Pablo got so excited his first time that it was over for Pablo before it started. Pablo hopes Winston’s “in the huddle” excitement is limited….because it might scare off Kadeem EDS or Logan….Demar might like it”
March 29th, 2015 at 9:20 pm
Pickgrin…I concur. Brad Johnson to me was a great game manager for our team, perfect fit. He may have not been a game manager for other teams he played for, but he sure was while he was here. Did just enough and let the D take over the game.

TBBF…all will be okay. Winston feeds off the negativity. LOVES it actually.
March 29th, 2015 at 9:26 pm
I am not dogmatic in my positions I can be swayed by intelligent arguments. However, I don’t know of many who can be persuaded by personal attacks and name calling. I know you have been arguing with many in the past over this issue, but please don’t let your frustrations from past arguments boil over into personal attacks at me. I didn’t imagine these incidents. They are a result of Winston’s poor judgement and not my personal witch hunt. I have said that I hope these are just cases of immaturity and not deeper character issues. I do not have an axe to grind. I don’t hate FSU. I was pulling for them to win the national championships when they did and argued that the deserved to be the number 1 seed in the playoffs. It is easy for me to brush off a minor incident or two but this is a pattern of poor judgement. Whenever I apply for any position of importance I expect to receive scrutiny of my history. it comes with the territory Just as the scrutiny that Jameis is under comes with possibly being the number 1 overall pick. Just look at the “minor” things that have been scrutinized with MM. The man gave the same response as JW did when asked about the importance of being #1 overall and his response was seen as a huge negative.
March 29th, 2015 at 9:28 pm
mountains out of molehills, that is why. some dude’s brother has serious issues and he couldn’t help him so he goes passing judgement on winston. smh
no comment on mariota’s speeding ticket which put himself and others in serious jeopardy. very poor decision maker, that mariota is. 35 over is deadly and yet not one peep of a serious issue that impacts others’ lives. just comments on theft of soda. lmao
“A report from The Oregonian states that Mariota was going 80 mph in a 55 mph zone outside of Eugene.”
March 29th, 2015 at 9:36 pm
@lurker
It was Winston!! He did it! Isn’t it obvious?
While Mariota was driving, Winston went ahead and changed the speed limit sign from 55 mph to 80 mph. Like in Dukes of Hazard!
All part of his genius plan to scare teams away fron Mariota!
March 29th, 2015 at 9:40 pm
Why do so many think character means choir boy?
We don’t expect perfect- none of us are! Meak is not weak! Lee Roy Selman had character. Do I need to remind anyone how he played the game? Derrick brooks had character. Was he a decent football player? John Lynch, Ronde Barber, Warrick Dunn, Mike Alstott, Paul Gruber, need I go on?Why do so many think expecting character is a bad thing?
March 29th, 2015 at 9:40 pm
@charactermatters
Perhaps you can be swayed by a Mariota supporter that has warmed to the thought of drafting Winston. I was about 70-30 Mariota and am now about 52-48.
I have changed because I am confident that the Bucs have poured ample resources and have been quite diligent with their research into Winston’s background. Psychological tests rarely lie….but the main reason is that the thought of Winston sitting at dinner for 3 or 4 hours with the Glazers and not totally turning them off is remarkable. Lovie Smith hates swearing and has 8 grandchildren….enough said there.
I’ve watched him closely around other players and they light up in his presence.
I am still slightly skeptical because nobody knows how he will react once the courting ends and a huge contract is secured….but, I’m OK with us taking the shot.
March 29th, 2015 at 9:41 pm

87 nice side
All you need to do is look at the Louisville highlights when he threw a TD pass between two defenders, made them crash into each other. Possibly the best TD pass of all time. Lol
……………………………………..
You know I love you DB and I don’t let my Gator side get in the way. I am T-Totally ready for JW to be our QB if he is the pick. I, however can not get overly excited when you point to a game where he threw 3tds to 3ints. I can’t see One good pass being a savior.
IMO, and Im just a Carpenter, JW actually Believes he can make throws that he shouldn’t be able to. Sometimes that is a Great Thing. Sometimes it isn’t. 7 Ints alone between the Louisville and UF game…………Say what you want and I love the kid’s moxie but UF played him like a drum. If they had a shred of Offense FSU never makes the playoffs.
Bottom line is I’m ready for a QB!!! JW or MM …….IDGAF!
March 29th, 2015 at 9:47 pm
the problem is that you are attacking winston’s character without meeting him. none of the incidents are anything major. putting people’s lives at risk for going 25 mph over is dangerous. but you state it is ok and minor and imply winston has no character. that is just silly.
your family history and experiences has jaded you, as has happened to us all. but that does not make your assertion correct.
March 29th, 2015 at 9:50 pm
@ TBBF
my position somewhat mirrors yours and for many of the same reasons. Although I started out closer to 90-10 lol. The meeting with the Glazes did mean alot. I will support Winston if the Bucs select him because I believe character matters with them also so if they make that selection after doing there homework I will have to believe it’s all just kid stuff and hope he’s grown up
March 29th, 2015 at 9:52 pm

Lurker you are assuming because of my name that I am implying Winston has no character. I chose this name when commenting on Incognito and haven’t changed it because I think it’s timeless. I would not say he has no character, it takes some character to achieve what he has. I will not minimize his incidents as nothing however. These things must be taken into account just as his interceptions should. No one thing should be the deciding factor but a summary of all positive and negative. Yes he has many positives, but we can’t minimize the negatives and hope to come out with an honest conclusion.

There’s already fights all over that place as it is. Fans from the other teams are going to try and talk a lot of trash about that kid to us and I see fists flying in the near future. More so than ever before.
I mean I talk some trash at games. A lot of it, even if we’re 2-10 at the time. I’m still running my mouth one way or another, just like JBF, but worse.

I Dislike an attitude of entitlement. I get the sense he has that sorta attitude. It usually comes with a tendency to slack. I’d also prefer a QB that didn’t make me cringe when he talked be it puffery or vernacular.
That’s just a preference based on a gut feeling.
March 29th, 2015 at 10:20 pm
I don’t make guarantees I make predictions for the kid and I’ll stand by them. If I’m wrong I’ll admit that I was.
“Jameis Winston will win a Super Bowl within the first 3 years of entering the NFL, whether it be with the Bucs or another team.”
See that’s my favorite one. Because I wrote that long before “Jameis Watch” even hit this site.
Then fans come back with….you’re crazy if Luck can’t do it, Jamies certainly won’t do it. My answer : Winston is BETTER than Luck.

Big Ben after two sexual battery allegations one he paid a large settlement to.
Ray Lewis pled guilty to obstructing justice in a murder case. Super Bowl MVP next season. After he himself had been arrested for murder!
We can’t deal with a kid who has never been charged with anything and cleared four times?
Wayyyyy overblown.
March 29th, 2015 at 10:27 pm
To me there’s nothing like talking trash, and then going out and backing it up. Our team sucked for over a decade. I got picked on in high school for wearing Bucs shirts. Then came Brooks, Sapp and Ronde. Sapp was my mouthpiece. Sapp made me feel good to be a Buc fan. For me Sapp was telling all those people that picked on me for being a Buc fan for so long. How ya like me now?
That’s why I’m probably the biggest Sapp fan that there is.
I feel if successful Jameis will do the same for me all over again….

These incidents all happened after the players had established themselves in the league. They were known commodity. NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHAT HE WILL BE so we have to consider the totality of all the facts and make a Projection. In other words, we’re all guessing and just trying to make the most educated guess we can by considering ALL of the facts.
March 29th, 2015 at 10:39 pm
Love Warren Sapp!
It was nice to have a guy on our team who would talk trash and then back it up and shove it down his opponent’s throat.
But I’ll be honest, he’s made himself look like a dumbass as well quite a few times.
Trash talk, you win some and you lose some.
March 29th, 2015 at 10:44 pm

March 29th, 2015 at 10:44 pm
@Character
I was commenting that those players returned and were accepted by the fan base, no big fights broke out.
Nobody knows how any rookie will fare in the league.
The whole fear mongering that there will be protests and a horrible black eye for the franchise if they draft him is way over hyped. It’s been out that he will likely be the number one pick and I haven’t heard boo.
That supposedly big Hunting Ground sham of a documentary totally bombed. It’s currently playing in only six theaters in the entire country.
There will be no PR nightmare.

@pickgrin but Winston isn’t mobile at all so with that theory you’d want Mariota right ? I don’t why people don’t give MG8 and credit. People need to have the same patience like they had for Josh Freeman
March 30th, 2015 at 12:09 am
because you can see backup in glennon, not starter.
and winston is mobile, c’mon now. he avoided sacks unlike mariota. despite mariota’s “athleticism” he was sacked 7 times vs a 3-9 (2-7 vs pac12) washington state.
March 30th, 2015 at 12:14 am
We could use the swagger that Winston brings. His leadership. Someone who’s not afraid to tell a guy to tighten up this, adjust that etc. Hopefully Winston can make these grown men accountable when necessary especially on offense.
Winston throwing to Evans, Jackson should be among our biggest strengths on the team. That would really help our running game more than any big money all pro offensive lineman. Hopefull the duo of Jackson and Evans catching passes from Winston will also help guys like ASJ, Sims and even Herron be more productive. As Winston learns more each week his development should even help the offensive line look better.
Now could Mariota do those same things? Will he have the guts to hold others accountable when needed? Will he be comfortable barking out multiple audibles over screaming fans in cold, hostile Philadelphia? I dont know. It’s not that he can’t. Its that from everything i’ve seen, heard and read, it would take him alot longer than Jameis to feel comfortable doing that in the most hostile enviornments. And alot of fans, alot of people, including the Glazers, don’t have the patience and want results immediately. Lovie and Licht have to know they don’t have time to wait for results. Unless they see Mike Glennon to be a great bridge, gap quarterback while Marcus adjusts, which all evidence points to them not believing that. It’s not that I don’t think Marcus can be great, and alot sooner than many realize. In the case of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jameis Winston makes the most sense. More than Mariota. More than Leonard Williams or Brandon Scheriff. The Bucs need Winston and his ability to play and bring his intangiibles from the first day of training camp on a hot, draining late July afternoon.
Now am I smarter than everyone on the Mariota wagon? No of course not. Are they smarter than myself? No. It’s just that everyone takes all of the infornation out there and draw a conclusion different than my own. There is nothing wrong with that. Both guys have the potential to be great NFL quarterbacks. However you can’t convince me that Mariota can do all of the things that Winston can do from a play calling perspective, especially at the line calling an audible. Calling out whatever the coaches card says, looking to the sideline. It’s not the same and based on that I can’t beleive he would be more ready or a better option than Jameis. At least not for the Bucs situation. You can’t just look at the player, the team and their particular scenario.
That’s how I feel and it’s very important because I have never seen our fanbase so divided. One side call fans on the other side names and it’s really a bit extreme considering none of us have any kind of say in the matter. Go ahead poke holes in my statement, that’s not important. Marcus couldend up being the better prospect right away. And in hindsight i’m sure certain people will say “I told you so” but unless you have info that nobody else has, I call BS!

@pickgrin but Winston isn’t mobile at all so with that theory you’d want Mariota right ?
—————————————————————————-
If you think Winston is not “mobile” – then (A) – you haven’t watched him play and (B) you are in for a very pleasant surprise.
He does not have the speed, but he is “mobile” in the ways that you want a “pocket passer” to be. Think Farve – Think Roethlisberger. These guys are not thought of as running QBs – but boy are they effective at sensing pressure with eyes still downfield – moving around to open areas to buy time and fire a pass downfield to a receiver that finally breaks open. Farve was the all time master at this and I understand why ’87 references him as someone Winston reminds him of. I see it as well.
Winston is very capable of breaking arm tackles if necessary, move around well in and out of the pocket if pressured and hit a receiver who breaks open with a strong, accurate pass while on the move. He has shown this many times. watch him play – its not hard to see. (Which is why you hear Roethlisberger’s name mentioned often as a comparison). He is also capable of running effectively for a 1st down when the opportunity presents itself or if there’s nowhere to go downfield and he sees some daylight to run to.
They may have run at roughly the same speed at the combine- but that just goes to show how useless the 40 time is at predicting football ability. There is a night and day difference between Glennon’s ability to be “mobile” vs Winston’s abilities in that regard. #5 is going to impress a lot of people with his ability to “Run” situationally.

And for the record although I’m sure many have seen me say this – If Winston was not available to be drafted – I would be all about the Bucs drafting Mariota. He represents a major talent upgrade to anything we’ve been working with recently and does bring an intriguing and unique skillset that you don’t often see. In time he is likely to be a good starter in the NFL IMO and has possible Superstar upside.
The thought of Mariota being a reasonably effective passer AND running for huge plays like we see from Kaep and Wilson is certainly an exciting one. But he’s got a ways to go to transition effectively to what happens in the NFL on most teams and L&L are in “Win Now” mode for real after a 2-14 season.
I just feel that Winston is better now, more ready to go NOW and is exactly what this team needs skillset and leadership wise.

“how could any Bucs fan not be “excited” that Jameis Winston will be playing quarterback for the Buccaneers next year?” Don’t know. Because while I am a Bucs fan now, I might not be come April 30th.

I’m not advocating for Tebow, just pointing out that excitement to play does not an NFL QB make.”
But excitement isn’t the only thing that Winston has. They are saying ON TOP OF EVERYTHING ELSE, he is always excited.

Fantastic then. Give me an inventory of all your Bucs gear that’s up for sale after April 30th…I’ll buy it in bulk to lessen the price.

87, I just watched Winston’s 14-minute highlight video & Mariota’s 12-minute video on youtube & I gotta say that Mariota’s highlights look wayyy better to me than Winston’s. Mariota can literally do everything as good and/or better than Winston.

Erik…Mariota won’t be the pick no matter how many videos there are. It’s been over for weeks now. Now it’s just sit and wait to hear the name Jameis Winston on draft day.

Nice post Bucgator…

I’ll believe it when I see it. Until then, I’m not buying it. (The jersey or the hype)

Hahahaha …… This guy said highlight tapes. I can put together a highlight reel of Blaine Gabbert that would make your eyes pop. The thing is, scouts do not look at highlight tapes. They look at the entire game film. And the entire game film says winston is far and away the best qb prospect. Hahaahahahaaa highlight tapes. He actually is making an argument based off of highlight tapes.
@ 87….please no more debating with this dude. His evidence is highlight tapes. lol

It’s also may I point out a criminal offense to falsely accuse Winston of offenses not proven in a court of law. It equals to libel.
——————————————————–
Online defamation is very difficult to prove. Winston is a public figure so “malice” would also have to be proven outside simple defamation. Good luck with that. While your post seemed like a friendly warning(or threat) it was far from a truthful statement. I’m sure there are some lawyers on here that will back that up.

PS It is a civil matter NOT a criminal one. Forgot to mention that was also incorrect.

Derrick Brooks. my all time favorite Nole and Buc. I see where @charactermatters said Brooks had character….you do know he was part of “Free Shoes” right? and the Bucs were gonna cut him after his first year. Well we all know how that story ended. Greatest Buc of all time..first class. What if the idoits treated him like Jameis. Besides if any of you don’t like Winston then become a fan of who ever drafts Mariota, that will leave more tickets for true fans.

The misunderstood saint that the Bucs are said to want as the face of their franchise did more laps around the store than Billy from Family Circus.
When you try justifying this poor character by saying that you were just as bad, it doesn’t improve his image, it just lessens yours.
Even if you don’t care about character, the guy was tied for second most interceptions of ALL quarterbacks in FBS. Why waste a number one pick on that?
