Goodell Says Jameis Winston Called Shots
March 23rd, 2015Conspiracy theorists have had a great time believing NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called The Smoking Man to make sure Jameis Winston doesn’t come to Chicago to attend the 2015 NFL Draft.
The logic is that Goodell doesn’t want to pose with and man-hug Winston.
What next? Goodell will get word to his TV partners that the Buccaneers are not allowed to appear on Monday Night Football if Winston is playing?
Pickpocket-thwarting, Bucs-uniform-frowning, Allie-LaForce-smitten, Big-Ten-Network-hating, pedestrian-bumping, olive oil-lapping, popcorn-munching, coffee-slurping, fried-chicken-eating, oatmeal-loving, circle-jerking, beer-chugging, cricket-watching, scone-loathing, college football-naïve, baseball-box-score-reading, NPR-listening, filthy-hotel-staying, fight-instigating, barista-training Peter King, of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports fame, found it prudent to talk about Winston with Goodell during an interview before the NFL Owners Meetings underway in Phoenix.
Goodell said Winston has driven the bus, when it came to meeting with him and staying home on draft night.
The MMQB: What was your meeting with Jameis Winston about and are you concerned that the possible first pick in the draft is likely not going to attend the draft?
Goodell: Well the first answer is that it was a meeting at his request. We certainly welcomed the opportunity to sit with Jameis and his representatives. We had several people affiliated with our office that met with him. It was a good opportunity for us to make sure that he understood the expectations that we have of him as a player in the NFL for him to ask questions of us, and to make sure that there is clarity about the importance of the personal conduct policy and the expectations we have of everyone—whether you’re a player, whether you’re a first-round draft choice, or whether you’re the commissioner. We have a responsibility to live up to them.
The second part is he was clear that he wanted to spend time with his family. We’ve had that occur on several occasions over the years.
What a great opportunity for Goodell to have publicly expressed that he hopes Winston reconsiders and attends the draft — except Goodell didn’t go there.
Oh, well. Winston will be the star of the draft whether Goodell likes it or not.

The star??? Joe, people like watching train wrecks.
March 23rd, 2015 at 7:13 am
Hopefully Joe will be invited to the Winston house and when Jameis is drafted we’ll hear someones spout:
“Herculeees, Herculeeees, Herculeeeees….”

Ha Ha, even RG think he’s a lightning rod about his conduct, and you think the Glazers want Shameis (the next tenant for the Orient Street Hotel)? If his Antics ,future and past, wasn’t an issue the NFL wouldn’t be worried. He’s a POS.
March 23rd, 2015 at 7:48 am
And cue the POS Jameis haters.
March 23rd, 2015 at 7:50 am
Roger Goodell says
“We had several people affiliated with our office that met with him.”
very sneaky RG! That is how he can positively deny having ordered anything. Just like the Don of the mob, all he said was ” hey go take care of that thing!”

It’s already started Max.

Only a few have started in this thread Brock.

Debunked Winston myth number 1000.
March 23rd, 2015 at 8:54 am
not sure why this decision is controversial. lots of people have families too large to stump up for travel or for the NFL to comp them all, and many such people prefer to be among their family during the most important days of their lives. we can’t have a “small” family gathering involving less than 50 uncles, aunts, cousins, and second cousins. it’s a phenomenal support system and i might choose to be home with them given the choice Jameis is facing. it’s also easier to cancel those plans and zip over to tampa if you find out before draft day that the bucs are gonna make you the man.
March 23rd, 2015 at 9:09 am
Staying home makes sense. Hard to celebrate all those on field victories and achievements with all your family in another state. This is one of the rare occasions when he can. Id stay home too.

“Goodell Says Jameis Winston Called Shots”
Just like he always has, that’s what leaders do.
March 23rd, 2015 at 9:31 am
The NFL and Goodell will be fine whether or not Jameis shows up.
March 23rd, 2015 at 9:37 am
All you holier than though hypocrites hating on Winston are going to look just fine in your shinny new jameis bucs jersey in a few weeks… let’s see how quick you fools jump on the bandwagon.
March 23rd, 2015 at 9:41 am

March 23rd, 2015 at 9:44 am

Can’t wait till Winston starts looking like the franchise QB we’ve never had and starts leading the Buccaneers to victories. Its the only thing that will shut the haters up. Might take a year or 2 – but it WILL happen. The kids got serious QB skills and IMO is gonna be a top 10 NFL QB. Assuming L&L get the OLine problem fixed (which is no given) – we’re gonna see it pretty quickly I believe.
March 23rd, 2015 at 1:37 pm
Maybe Jameis did not want Goodell feeling him up with a personal hug.
March 23rd, 2015 at 4:38 pm
That’d be sweet if they had a big draft party at Ray Jay and Jameis showed up there on draft night!!
March 23rd, 2015 at 4:49 pm
If it really is Jamarcus Aynus making that call, then I’m thinking he doesn’t want to be the next Brady Quinn or Johnny Fa**it and have everybody watching him as he sinks like a stone in the draft.
It may not happen that way, but could it be that’s what he’s afraid of? And if so, does he have some knowledge that he won’t be going #1?
More conspiracy. Another five weeks to go. That’s why need a USFL again.
March 23rd, 2015 at 5:26 pm
If this is the last time Jameis acts like he his bigger than the NFL I would be happy. I know this is going to get a lot of ppl riled up, but I’m the number one fan rooting for Winston to be able to master tight roping that line of confidence and cockiness above the team that a much less talented players couldn’t
March 23rd, 2015 at 5:29 pm
I can’t wait for the Draft so all of you Winston lover’s will SHUT THE HELL UP because the Bucs are not going to Draft him. Winston SUCKS and he will never make it in the NFL. LMAO
March 23rd, 2015 at 7:10 pm
So T-Bag Fan 4 Life – If the Bucs don’t draft Winston because he “SUCKS and he will never make it in the NFL” – then who are they drafting?
March 23rd, 2015 at 9:13 pm
Famous Jameis threw 18 picks in last years college season…if he starts ..let take some bets on how many picks he throw in the NFL…scary thought…maybe 30.
