Sterling Moore Is Eyeing The Outside
March 21st, 2015The newest Buccaneer, Sterling Moore, has big goals.
His interest goes beyond the nickel cornerback role he played for the Cowboys last year.
Moore chatted with Bucs beat reporter Jenna Laine of SportsTalkFlorida.com and explained that he doesn’t want to be pigeonholed as a nickel.
“Even though I was the third corner [in Dallas], I played outside quite a bit, as well as inside. So I have that versatility,” Moore said.
He acknowledged how Tampa Bay coaches nickel cornerbacks independently of outside cornerbacks in practice, but Moore said that will only help him master that job while he fights for something bigger.
“But don’t get me wrong I’m not coming there to be just a nickel,” Moore said. “I fully anticipate competing for, you know, one of the top two corner spots. But definitely the nickel at first.”
Moore, 25, is not lacking confidence. Joe likes that. Moore said he performed “extremely well inside and on the outside” last season, when he made seven starts for Dallas.
If nothing else, the Bucs have brought in young veteran competition. That’s always a good thing. Moore is entering his fifth season, undrafted out of Southern Methodist in 2011.

Ronde started and moved to nickel in nickel packages. I suspect other top corners do it as well. I don’t see why they’re being pigeon holed as nickel or outside etc. And the way this league is, nickel is basically a starter anyways.

Gonna be tough to take the job from Verner/Banks but I like the attitude.

Still hope we draft Senquez Golson.

Moore makes 4 competing for the outside because Mike Jenkins wants it too….
Doesn’t hurt for guys to want to start and compete….
Better than sitting on your candy-soft-a$$ like Michael Johnson.

Love the confidence

Hope the Dallas pipeline is’nt a sewer. The Bucs are so depleted that the Cowboys unwanted are upgrades.

I love the intensity, but ask Collins where being the capital swagger daddy gets you without the play. Let’s hope this is the guy that talks and plays like a starter.

Looks like we won’t need to draft any CB’s.
Not only that, I’m not as down in Jenkins as Joe is since my GF isn’t Johnathon Banks.
Barring injury, it looks like the Bucs have a pretty good group here to start the season wth.

The kid is a player. He immediately improves our defense because he competes for the ball in coverage

I guess they area obina Verner to the inside, I don’t think Banks is going anywhere.

To be fair, it wasn’t until year five when Barber finally got it going. This guy is young and has a chance. He’ll have to earn it with Lovie though.
I like that.
By the way…Mike Glennon could have started last year…if he had stepped up and claimed the role by proving he deserved it. He didn’t. Instead, his brother took to social media to whine about him not being handed the starting job.
Instant dog house.

Didn’t need to anyway.
Odds are against these backup guys working out, but the secret is to keep bringing in young guys until you find one who does. Develop the ones you think will have staying power, and when they are ready, they can replace Verner.
Banks will be fine. Probably very fine.

I know ATV is making the most money but he would be the best to move inside. He would literally DOMINATE the Nickel spot.

Slot and tight ends tear us apart. We need to be more physical and Jam the receivers on the outside and have tighter coverage in the middle of the field.

Good attitude to have, competition is always good excellence, hope he does succeed with us.
