Greg Hardy, Bucs In Talks

March 17th, 2015

greg hardy 0317

Yes Bucs fans, apparently the braintrust at One Buc Palace has heard your pleas.

It appears the Bucs have launched talks with free agent defensive end Greg Hardy and the monster quarterback wrecker is on his way to Tampa Bay to talk turkey in person.

That’s the word from Yahoo! Sports NFL insider Rand Getlin as he Twittered a short time ago.

Joe hopes Gerald McCoy, friend of Hardy, flies in from wherever he is and does the hard sell.

Frankly, Joe believes the only way to keep Hardy from going to the Seahawks and Cowboys, playoff teams both, is to show the checkbook. Only way.

Joe has been known to harass Hardy’s agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus, and let’s just say Joe is confident the Bucs are not just jerking Hardy around.

F it break the bank for this dude!!!

  2. Matt Says:

No way he signs with the Seahawks. They already for big money invested in Bennett and Avril. Cowboys are struggling with the cap which is why the let Demarco go. He is just visiting with contenders to drive the price up with us (which will work) Get it dont L&L!!!

  3. Matt Says:

    done**

  4. SuperSam Says:

Screw it its only women right!!!? Go get em bucs! #Hardy #Wiston

  5. Buc1987 Says:

    Let’s do this!

  6. BucsFanInChina Says:

Gross. Terms of his suspension haven’t even been set yet.

  7. Buc Neckid Says:

Not going to break the bank
    he will go somewhere else

  8. bucs4lyfe Says:

I guess that settles that debate, cant afford to worry about PC and arrest reports when you’ve been as bad as the bucs have lol, its nice to hear but close the deal first. we have the best chance to get him and unless he is focused on superbowls not money we will sign him. he’s more worthy of the paycheck than Michael Johnson was

  9. ihateloviesmith Says:

hell yes L&L do what ever it takes and make this happen, ad I will change my user name to, cutloviesmithsomeslack!!!

  10. tmaxcon Says:

    Pay Hardy!

Hardy makes the linebackers and secondary immediately better too.

If Hardy gets double digit sacks and bucs win a few games he will get key to city.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

SuperSam….I’ll buy tickets to see Hardy and Winston will you?

Michael Pittman ran his wife over with a Hummer and I bet SuperSam cheered for him when he scored a TD.

  12. bucrightoff Says:

Rosenhaus working his magic as always. He’s probably never making it to Seattle or Tampa, just driving up the deal he gets in Dallas. Rosenhaus is scum but a heck of an agent.

  13. Eric Says:

We got to have more $ than those other teams. And playing with Gerald and all.

Maybe he would also like to maim the NFC South Teams.

This has the capacity to be a game changer for the bucs.

Do it do it do it.

  14. SuperSam Says:

No. Ill buy tickets to see Hardy and Mariota baby!! HAHAHA JK I just wanna win

  15. feelthepewterpower Says:

“Come on Bucs” – Gene Deckerhoff on the call

  16. JerseyBucsFan Says:

Don’t let him walk out the door.

  17. Just draft a QB already Says:

    Sign him already!!!!

  18. Warren Says:

Get this done TODAY! I lost all my morals when we went 2-14…Bring in every criminal out there as long as we make the playoffs. This is very sad I know….but I want to win this bad. GMC is working hard to bring him in, I saw it on his twitter page.

  19. Curtis Gatorboy Says:

    HELL YES! LETS DO IT!

    NO JAMEIS THO!

  20. Couch Fan Says:

Please dont let him leave without a signed contract.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

  22. bucrightoff Says:

Get what done? He’s in Dallas today visiting the Boys. This is why when you hear of him going to “Seattle and Tampa”, it’s Rosenhaus driving up the price. Sounds like it’s very likely he signs in Dallas.

  23. Buc1987 Says:

Curtis Gatorboy…you have nothing to worry about, afterall you have family at One Buc and they told you the pick will be Mariota.

So I guess it’s settled everyone Curtis set us straight. The pick will be Mariota I guess.

  24. Waterboy Says:

Go for it but just don’t overspend with guaranteed money. Hopefully that was a lesson learned from last year.

  25. Pickgrin Says:

Go for it L&L. Sign him. We still have plenty of $ – and after this year a ton of dead $ comes off the books (for Nicks, Barron, Johnson and Collins).

Lock him up for 4 years with a good offer. Just make sure to include language in the contract that we can get away from the deal cleanly if there are any more suspensions or legal troubles in the future.

  26. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Breaking the bank with him is not the risk it was with Johnson. We will get our money’s worth out of him.

I wouldn’t go overboard, but certainly we could offer 7-10 mill

  27. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    Get it done.

  28. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

And really, we can wait on David till after the season. His contract isn’t up until free agency next year.

  29. Buc1987 Says:

The Bucs have the money to handle the price. So outbid whoever wants him.

    Simple as that.

After the Johnson fiasco….I say this organization better make it look like they know wtf they are doing.

S.O.B. they OWE this to us fans after that “we don’t expect our fans to be patient” season of 2014. Yes I said OWE us. Show us some respect!

  30. Eric Says:

Like the Glazer’s care about bad publicity.

Check out what is said about them over in England.

  31. Ray Rice Says:

Come on! Why would he choose the Seapigeons, or Cowbitche$$$ over the YUCS!

  32. JJV Says:

Nobody said winning had to have morales. We need football players not alter boys. If you also have to cheat to win, oh well. Ask Patriots fans if they care about having morale players or cheating? They have trophies by doing whatever it takes to win.

  33. StPeteBucsFan Says:

$$$ are always important and yes Seattle and Dallas look more competitive than us right now…OK the Seahawks ARE more competitive right now but the Cowboys are coming off of years of their own JJ dysfunction and just one good year.

As far as the other “intangibles” we can compete very well!!! First of all does anybody not believe that Hardy would love to stick it to the Panthers twice a year? Secondly does Hardy not want to start next the the top #3DT in the entire league…sorry Suh fans…but I agree if GMC comes into the make the hard sell that could be HUGE!
3rd…we have no income tax. 4…We have the best weather in the league. Just look outside. Another day in paradise….and 5 we have the Mons.

Oops forget #5. We need to put a clause in both Hardy and Fameis contract that prohibits them from entering the Mons. LMAO

  34. Architek Says:

We have paid unproven talent – why not pay proven talent???

  35. bucco brice Says:

    puke, barf…stay in dallas…

  36. JJV Says:

Nobody said winning had to have morals. We need football players not alter boys. If you also have to cheat to win, oh well. Ask Patriots fans if they care about having moral players or cheating? They have trophies by doing whatever it takes to win.

  37. tmaxcon Says:

It’s simple no matter who they sign wins will fix any PR problem. See.. Ray Lewis and Michael Vick.

  38. Bucs220 Says:

    StPeteBucsFan Says:
“Oops forget #5. We need to put a clause in both Hardy and Fameis contract that prohibits them from entering the Mons. LMAO”

Honestly, I could probably get some sort of discount program for them there, seeing as how Joe Redner (the owner) is dating my stepfathers sister.

  40. BucPuck Says:

DO IT! PAY HIM! We need playmakers. The starting d line of hardy, McCoy, McDonald and Jacquies Smith sounds good to me!

  41. tortured orlando bucs fan Says:

A player worth breaking the bank for…closest thing to a “sure thing” de free agent out there, and imagine mccoy with some talent at de next to him for the first time in his career!(well, besides bennett that one year)

Win, win…even though he may be a dispicable person who did something horrific that night in question…he is going to play ssomewhere, that’s inevitable…might as well be for us

  42. Buc1987 Says:

    Winning is the best deodorant.

If we had a team that was 10-6 last year then we can be picky and choosy, but we we’re a 2-14 team.

Your team was 2-14 last year Lovie. What do you do?

  43. Phillip Says:

Don’t think the Seahawks can afford him unless he wants to play a year there hope to win a SB and try and break the bank the following year(Like Avril and Bennett did).. They gotta pay Russell and Wagner either this off-season or next.

The Cowboys aren’t in the best cap situation either but they are both more attractive than the Bucs unless he wants to take out his frustration on the Panthers twice a year more than anything else.

I don’t personally care we if sign him or not as long as he has been proven innocent and not because of the accuser skipping town. I am all for second chances but man laying your hands on women just isn’t right and hard to get over(but like I said I’d still give him a second chance). As I said last night I don’t read or listen to the news so Idk if he actually did it or not or what caused him to be innocent or cleared or whatever he is now.

  44. Buccfan37 Says:

Hell yeah, bring him aboard. Money is no object. Mo money, mo money. It certainly can’t be a worse deal than Revis for 16 mil. Make it rain 500 dollar bills.

  45. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We really haven’t opened up the wallet yet…..if we don’t sign Hardy, we will likely have considerabl $$$ under the cap…..could restructure McCoy perhaps frontload LVD & hold over some for next year.
There are always players available after the draft…..I don’t want any more trades (keep the picks)
Hardy is a proven player that brings some nasty….unfortunately, some of the nasty is off the field.

  46. Buc1987 Says:

tortured orlando bucs fan <~~~I feel your pain.

  47. bo Says:

I don’t mind it if our DE is a POS….he is supposed to be…our QB is a different matter.

Anyone trying to say that if you don’t have a problem signing Hardy, you should not have a problem drafting Winston, just does not get it…apples and oranges…or should I say crablegs

  48. INDYbucsfan Says:

Next time I get on this site (30 min from now) I want to see one of those silly breaking news, developing story quarter articles, stating that the bucs have just signed hardy. Time to swoop in bucs.

  49. bucrightoff Says:

No talks at all, just looking into it…

    Rick Stroud ‏@NFLSTROUD 2 mins2 minutes ago
#Bucs say they are in the exploration stage with DE Greg Hardy. No visit is scheduled.

  50. nate Says:

This guy is a terrible person.. with that said maybe someone like lovie and mccoy can help him…

  51. Lord Cornelius Says:

@ bo. I agree but for opposite reasons.

You’re an insane moral hypocrit to say that one dude’s actions are forgiveable and another’s aren’t because of the position they play. That’s just the truth of it.

Either that; or you care more about what other people’s perceptions are than your own morals and opinions. This idea that Qbs are supposed to be moral saints and leaders is driven by culture & media; but it doesn’t mean you or I have to think that way.

I personally don’t like the message of telling my kids “QBs are supposed to be hero’s and looked up to but if you play any other position you can do whatever you want in life and people will forgive you”. I think it’s a stupid way to look at things; but that’s how most people are I guess in the end.

  52. Dano Says:

Do whatever it takes to get that Beast here! $$$$$

  53. Buc1987 Says:

Okay everyone that doesn’t want him.

Let’s let him go somewhere else and play. Because he’s going to go to another team. Perhaps a team that doesn’t have fans that are so pansy-assed.

It’s either us or someone else.

  54. Buc1987 Says:

Lord Cornelius…thanks for addressing bo. It took everything I had not to do it.
I just knew someone else was going to come along and fire back.

I guy that gets found guilty vs a guy that was never charged is TWO different animals.

  55. PanthersSuck! Says:

    Sign him NOW!!!

  56. DallasBuc Says:

Believe it when I see it. I don’t trust incompetent Lovie Smith and his lapdog GM to pull off a common sense no-brainer transaction to improve this football. It’s just never happened before.

  57. Bryce Says:

They must know what the penalty he’s about to be served to even talk with him.I think he was the bucs first choice at DE at the beginning of free agency get him and it’s all about the o line

  58. Joseph Mamma Says:

If we sign him I just hope he leaves all the guns and drugs in Charlotte.

  59. bucgator Says:

If we could land Hardy our Defense is instantly feared.

  60. JFat Says:

@ Cornelius – I think the point is the QB is the leader of the team, typically the most popular player/ “face of the franchise”. He’s most likely the person your kid will be looking at and asking questions about…some people would like that person to be a better role model than Jameis is all.

That is why the position makes a difference and people are less forgiving of a 1st round pick QB than a free-agent DE. Not saying it’s right…Hardy is a bonafide scumbag and nothing Jameis has done off the field really concerns me except the complete stupidity of chanting FHRITP during a rape investigation.

  61. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Please note that Hardy had only One…..ONE sack against our sieve of an OL last year.

  62. Broy34WontArgueWithStupidity Says:

Buc1987-you just became my favorite. “Michael Pittman ran his wife over with a hummer and you cheered for him” lmfao

  63. Buczilla Says:

Please Please PLEASE bring him here… Our entire Defense will take a giant leap forward with just this one signing. It would also take some pressure off of JVM (Jameis, Vincent, and Mike Evans) to be perfect every play.

  64. bucrightoff Says:

Annnd he’s going to Seattle most likely. Michael Bennett is demanding a trade to Atlanta. All starting to make sense now. Sucks if Bennett ends up in the division too.

  65. Broy34WontArgueWithStupidity Says:

If we do not sign him we cannot focus the 2nd and 3rd picks on the Oline. That’s what they want to do it’s quite clear. Nobody drsfts a QB 1 and doesn’t do anything with the Left Tackle spot in FA and then not draft a good LT. Hardy is worth overpaying for. This guy is not gnna get cute and soft like Casper the Injured Ghost Johnson

  66. Berdj Joseph Rassam Says:

Adding Hardy would definitely be a positive for TB’s defense.

  67. INDYbucsfan Says:

Curtis, do you have a brother that lives in Indiana?

  68. Mike10 Says:

Michael Bennett is requesting a trade to ATL lol.. Is he trying to piss Bucs fans off more?

  69. Buc1987 Says:

My apologies to the pansy-assed fans. I’m having a bad day.

You’re perfectly entitled to your opinion.

  70. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @BucBonzai

“seeing as how Joe Redner (the owner) is dating my stepfathers sister”

How is he doing since his bout with cancer. I’ve always liked the guy. Yeah the judgmental amongst us may not approve of how he earned his money but his “girls” almost to a person claim he was a great boss who went out of his way to take care of them.

  71. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The way I am reading it is the bucs are “discussing” within the offices about talking to Greg Hardy, not in discussions with him. So this is a bit misleading. 🙁

  72. Another J Says:

    Pay the man…

  73. tval Says:

Yeah, that pittman line was hysterical!! 🙂 #teamjameis lol!!

  74. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

No idea. Been out of touch and I don’t really ask my mom about him much.

    FYI ALL
Michael Benett has requested a trade to Atlanta, which explains the reason the Seahawks want Hardy.

  75. Curtis Gatorboy Says:

    NO INDY

  76. Broy34WontArgueWithStupidity Says:

Scott in Antonio-congrats on the most irrelevant post ever

  77. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Scotty in Fat Antonio Says
“Please note that Hardy had only One…..ONE sack against our sieve of an OL last year.”

    Dude, lol.

Take a good look at his games played you dummy. lol.

  78. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

If it were you, would you want to play for Tampa, when you could play for either Seattle or Dallas ?
Seattle and Dallas are legitimate contenders, and Tampa is always a contender for the worst team in Football.
But, if he does come to lay for us here in Tampa, he gets a shot at Carolina twice a year 🙂
He also gets the chance to play WITH Gerald McCoy 🙂

I am afraid it will take overpaying him a bunch, and McCoy’s help, to get him to come play for us in Tampa.

However, IF we do succeed in landing him, he instantly makes our Defense one of the better ones in the entire NFL.

The Tampa 2 depends on a 4 man pass rush. And, w/o this pass rush, it is fairly easy for a good Quarterback to expose us to a passing attack.

  79. HarlemBuc Says:

One question: How much will we regret not signing this dude?
We got GMC… Add him and we are a top 15 defense on our worst days!
Best insurance with a rookie quarterback is a mean defense.

  80. Broy34WontArgueWithStupidity Says:

^dude this is greg Hardy. Check out his Twitter pic. He’s the type of sicko that says “F”-it Gmac let’s build it bro together”

  81. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @DallasBuc

I don’t trust incompetent Lovie Smith and his lapdog GM to pull off a common sense no-brainer transaction to improve this football. It’s just never happened before.

A 2-14 record is impossible to defend and I get that. But IF they sign Fameis and Hardy and draft a top OL prospect are you going to chill or will it take ANOTHER SB appearance for Lovie before that happens? Is a Conference Championship enough? Division title?

Obviously I’m not down on the Bucs management team as much as you but I get your disgust…2-14 is 2-14. I see lots of room for optimism. I see easily competing for a division title next year and then one and done.

Of course if they don’t sign Fameis and Hardy goes somewhere else and they don’t fix the OL they’ll suck again.

And so at this particular moment in time I think both of our positions are very much up in the air. I’m more a benefit of the doubt guy I guess.

  82. OAR Says:

    1987
Pittman didn’t run over his wife. He hit his hummer into her car….and, for his actions, he got suspended 4 games. So yea, bring those type of guys to play for your team and they usually/eventually get suspended!! Meaning you can’t count on them. Luckily, we had drafted Caddy and didn’t miss him.

  83. passthebuc Says:

will not sign. will take offer and pass it to Cowboys and Seahawks.

  84. Zam Says:

    not my plea

let that turd float on down the river before you take a drink

  85. OAR Says:

    Harlem
“One question: How much will we regret not signing this dude?”
Uh….probably the same as the 31 other teams.

  86. JFat Says:

    FYI:

“According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Patriots would like to re-sign free agent OL Dan Connolly.

However, he reportedly has interest from the Seahawks (center), Buccaneers, (guard) Bears (center), and Dolphins (guard).”

  87. ddneast Says:

For the third time, the Cowboys didn’t have enough cap room rto sign Demarcus Murray, how are they going to fit Greg Hardy in.
Not sure where the Seahawks are, but I don’t think they are awash with free space either.
Unlike our FAA signings from last year, Hardy has always played with an edge and an attitude. He is just what this defense needs.

  88. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    OAR Says
“Pittman didn’t run over his wife. He hit his hummer into her car…”

If I had a nickle for every time I hit people with my car…

  89. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

…like I always say…if people don’t like the way I drive….they should stay off the sidewalks.

  90. ddneast Says:

No brainier huh DallasBuc? How many games do you think he will miss due to a suspension we all know is coming.does he have a history of assaulting women that has been covered up. What are the chances of reoffending.
Believe me, I hope they sign Hardy. But no brainier?
It appears the only person who has no brain and speaks without thinking is you.

  91. Patrick in VA Says:

It makes me shake my head every time Tampa fans get on their high horses about bringing in players with checkered pasts and discipline problems. Every wild story about the weirdest stuff that you’ve ever heard of in the news is usually out of the Tampa Bay area. I lived for 2 years in South Tampa and another year in Clearwater. The amount of drugs and general debauchery that I saw around me there makes the thought of anyone from that area looking down their nose at what anyone else laughable. Both Hardy and Winston should be welcomed by Tampa fans with open arms as though they were coming home.

Get off of your high horses and stop acting so sanctimonious.

  92. ddneast Says:

Can you cite your source in regards to the Bennett trade.
Wouldn’t be surprised though since the Seahawks depth at the defensive line is shrinking and he is having to out in more time.
I”m not sure Bennett is a 30 minute DE.
Just heard the Bennett trade rumor on the he radio.
    LMAO.
Seahawks will want a No. 1 and I don’t think the Falcons are ready to give that up for a player who has never had double digit sacks.

  93. The original "Kevin" Says:

Show him the money. He will help make our defense as a whole feared throughout the league!

  94. JFat Says:

ddneast – nfltraderumors.co does a pretty good job of keeping all things trade/FA related up to date.

  95. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I certainly respect the position of those who don’t feel comfortable signing Hardy. Domestic abuse is an evil crime. If you do not see any remorse or can’t get past that night I’m not going to rank on you at all.

But can we all agree. Want to sign him or not Hardy would absolutely turn this defense into a top 10 maybe top 5 defense.

He is not only a proven talent, he plays with an edge to him. In addition coming from his situation he’ll be the opposite of the typical fat cat FA’s who get their money and then coast. He’ll be highly motivated to prove people wrong. He’s p!ssed and so he’s going to bring it every play.

Hard not to get really excited unless the off field incident is beyond your ability to forgive. I understand.

  96. Nick2 Says:

Unfortunately he has stops in Dallas and Seattle first. I am betting we never have a chance to sign him.

  97. sturgis1115 Says:

    Get Michael Bennett back also!!!!!!

  98. Buctebow Says:

    Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Please note that Hardy had only One…..ONE sack against our sieve of an OL last year.

    ___________________
Hilarious! It appears he is very underachieving and not worth a big contract. Probably just a flash in the pan that burned out? Except, he only played in one game in 2014 and was put on the Commissioner’s exempt list after that. He got a sack and a forced fumble credited to him in that game against the Bucs. Not too shabby for just one game, eh?

  99. OAR Says:

    Bonzai
“If I had a nickle for every time I hit people with my car…”
Isn’t that how you bought your Pittman jersey?

  100. JJV Says:

Sign the Kracken. Do it quickly(like today) or we’ll lose him. No other free agent will make such an impact for our defense even from the draft. Majority of fans want it done. Please just do it Bucs.

  101. Buc1987 Says:

    lol@Patrick in VA

  102. SW500cal Says:

GLAZERS aren’t you tired of losing!?!? Sign Greg Hardy this week to a contract based on incentives with an option for next year. This will fill a huge need and help YOUR team win games. Season ticket holder and tired of attending losing games for many seasons and years!!

Glazers do whatever it takes to win ball games! Tired of writing checks to a losing organization that doesn’t seem devoted to get better.

  103. Just Win Jamies Says:

I haven’t scrolled up to look @ others comments so I’m assumimg there’s a bit of negativity to a possible signing but has anybody considered this a good thing in ‘diluting’ much of the focus on JW’s recent history and on to Hardy?

A good thing for Famous Jamies imo.

  104. Buc1987 Says:

It’s really not that hard to do.^^^

His name is Famous Jameis. Unless you’re dyslexic, can you please change your screen name to the correct spelling of our savior’s first name.

    It’s not Jamies. It’s pronounced -Jay-mus.

    Thanks again for your time.

  105. Just Win Jamies Says:

This potential signing is so Huge it puts the Bucs front runners in their division and a chance to have a viable impact in the playoffs w/Winston.

If they could Sign a Johnson then why not a Hardy… This is a good barometer to see how much the buc’s want to win.

  106. ufcguy Says:

Greg Hardy – DL – Free Agent

The Dallas Morning News confirms the Cowboys could have an agreement with free agent Greg Hardy by Wednesday.

Hardy had dinner with Cowboys coaches on Tuesday evening, and will take a physical on Wednesday. It’s doubtful things would have progressed this far if both sides weren’t confident they could make the numbers work. The only other team that appears to be in the running for Hardy’s services is the Bucs.

Well I’ve done wrong b4 and now a successful contractor give the man a chance men lie women lie two sides to every story grab him and let’s win now lovie as u promised last year he can help do that

  109. hecticbuc Says:

if he signs with the cowboys licht and lovie should be both fired before the season starts. WTF our weakest link is the oline and who have we signed no one at all this is crazy. they should have been after him once the dinner bell rang and not slow playing waited for another team to go after him than decided hey maybe this guy can help us be good again. i swear these bucs gms have been terrible honestly if they listen to the fans they would be much more better off than thinking they know best. Im still very upset we need never drafted kuechly probably always will be!!
