The Hardy Thermometer
March 17th, 2015The national media seems obsessed with manbeast defensive end Greg Hardy.
And one well known voice was taking temperatures of league executives yesterday, orally, of course.
Former NFL Network voice Jason La Canfora, now the official insider at CBS Sports, said his Hardy heat seeking led him to the Seahawks and Cowboys as likely Hardy suitors.
Hey, that’s two teams who run a defense much like the Buccaneers’.
So where are the Bucs in all this Hardy sniffing? Joe’s confident Jason Licht is too smart to pass on strongly studying Hardy and thoroughly sniffing out his agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus.
Joe thinks the dancing in the streets, from Tampa to downtown Bradenton, would be the only thing that could cause damage in the wake of a Hardy signing by the Bucs. Joe’s not buying the nearly ridiculous assertions yesterday by Peter King, of Sports Illustrated and NBC Sports, claiming Hardy’s next team will face a “public battering” so distracting it could hurt the team.

@ joe any report on the hawk being released or traded, or are the bucs planning to keep him for another year?
Joe really doesn’t play Q&A here, but like every team, before a guy is cut the team tries to trade him. It seems the Bucs smell a shot at a potential trade and are just waiting it out.–Joe

Hardy is best player available should be a no brainer go get em Lovie.
March 17th, 2015 at 8:56 am
I really don’t see the Glazers going for this. I would love it, but I don’t see it.

I read a very thorough breakdown of the trial, and this guy did some unimaginable things. I think football fans aren’t angry because they are unaware of the severity of what happened.

2008 bucs could have taken Hardy in with no worries. This bucs team has lots of spokesmen but no proven leaders, and I don’t think we have enough going on to expect GH to not get into more of the same bad stuff as a buc. There’s no Tom Brady or Jon Gruden type in this locker room that you just refuse to let down

Every time I hear Hardy’s name, I want to kick Brett Bowden in the undercarriage.
March 17th, 2015 at 9:07 am
I doubt anyone is giving him a long term deal, so he’ll go the Revis route to Seattle or Dallas on a short deal and try and parlay that into a bigger deal later on. No way he takes a short deal here, so the only way the Bucs get him is overpaying with a longer deal. Considering how timid they’ve been so far in FA, I doubt they offer Hardy a long term deal, and they shouldn’t either.
March 17th, 2015 at 9:09 am
I do not want Hardy here under any circumstances.
March 17th, 2015 at 9:09 am
@Pick6
McCoy is a proven leader. 18 sacks in the last 2 years sets a good example.
March 17th, 2015 at 9:11 am
Frankly, if people are willing to accept Winston, they should accept Hardy as well. We may never know if Winston was guilty or not, but it will always be a possibility.
March 17th, 2015 at 9:19 am
His baggage is not worth it. Lets say he gets 11 sacks next year that’s probably only going to be 4-5 sacks more than the guy he’d be replacing… that might lead to 1 more win. Is one extra win ie. 7-9 vs 6-10 worth bring him in? We’re going to draft Jameis who has some baggage (although he was cleared 4 times vs. Hardy who payed off his Girlfriend) so the team isn’t going to deal with these other headaches for a very limited return. Lets develop some of the guys we have, add some stop gap Olinemen (plenty still available in FA) and build this thing up. Let a team close to a Superbowl sign him we’re too far away to really get any value for the pain.

The Bucs will face a certain amount of scrutiny for taking Winston due to his past but I believe they can deal with that. However, by taking Winston and signing Hardy I believe they will open themselves up to a lot of bad press. With Winston there is obviously much debate regarding his treatment of women but with Hardy there is none. He beat his girlfriend and threatened her life. The Bucs might get away with selecting one or the other but taking both would be sending a big middle finger to all women.
March 17th, 2015 at 9:22 am
Great Joe! Him plus Winston?? might as well install a big fence around one buc place and put bars in the windows, hire a warden… this is what you want your team to be? Ask a Bengal fan how these kinds of guys work out…

I know this if off topic and Joe doesn’t like Q&A so I’ll ask this to the bloggers and Joe and indirectly. According to my wife, she called the Bucs PR department and they said that at this time, there is no draft party scheduled. I told my wife that she was insane and must have spoken to a custodian who accidently picked up the phone. She called again and got the same answer. So my question is: Is there really no draft part scheduled for this year? Has anyone else heard any different? Please refute my wife’s research in this matter. Thanks!

@Bonzai and @walterwhite…your statements show how misinformed you are on the Winston details. I’m not banging the drum for either. But I also wouldn’t mind either one as well. Winston is a 21 yr old kid who needs to grow up and got caught up having promiscuous sex with wrong woman, but Hardy was a grown man. I’m more inclined to be against Hardy but if the BUCS bring him in I’m gonna cheer for him to succeed because I want my team to.

“Authorities say Hardy in May choked his then-girlfriend, threw her around, dragged her by her hair and threatened to kill her.” — CNN
He was charged and found guilty by a judge. I don’t know how they do things in NC, apparently judges make rulings before juries are involved. Sounds crazy to me. Regardless, he was charged and a judge found him guilty.
Be reasonable. This situation is conceptually and factually worse than Jameis Winston’s situation. There was a formal charge. There was a guilty verdict. As bizarre as I think that is, there was a verdict.

Forgive, and let him prove that he’s sincere!
March 17th, 2015 at 10:55 am
That’s why Winston wants to avoid the draft, “public battering”.
March 17th, 2015 at 10:56 am
lol theres no way this fanbase can alienate the bucs for drafting Winston if your begging for greg hardy…..im sure that franchise would be extremely confused if they were to try and get a pulse on what the fanbase wants at this point. this one guy wont make us the number 1 defense in the league I assure you. but what he will do is free up McCoy if hardy is on the opposite side.
Greg hardy’s big season was the 15 sack season (Charles Johnson had 11 on the other side) which is less than a sack a game cuz im sure he had multiple games with more than 1 sack, Carolina went 12-4, they went to the playoffs and lost in the first round 23-10. defensive end will never make as big an impact as quarterback or the offense….if you have a great offense and an average defense you’ll go further so no need to tie up money in this guy his suspension or his issues.
here’s a thought!!! what if we were to sign greg hardy, he gets suspended for 6 games and we go 0-6 or 1-5 or 2-4 you think he’s going to change the landscape of the team? no because chances are the issue is with the offense, we have other issues to address, it’s ok to have an average defense because theres only like 5 dominating defenses every year the rest are average or horrible, nothing wrong with being average if your offense isn’t

Losing Hardy will prove hoe irrelevant the Bucs really are right now. NO WAY the Seahawks and Cowgirls have the cap space we have to pay him. Put up or shut up time. L&L can say all they want about about “spending wisely”. We blew it on the OL and it looks like on the DL. Are we going to start 4-5 rookies AGAIN?! I don’t care if J.C himself wants to come down from heaven to play QB he can’t lead this team to more than 6 wins.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:07 am
@brandonbucfan
your going to hell chopped up like biscuits in a basket talking like that
March 17th, 2015 at 11:16 am
Nice picture, Joe. How many times have we seen this…a Bucs offensive lineman on the ground and our QB in the arms of an opposing lineman! Makes me sick!
March 17th, 2015 at 11:50 am
I just want a pass rush, man. The real damage would be caused if we go below 6 wins AGAIN.
March 17th, 2015 at 12:14 pm
Greg Hardy visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 17th, 2015 at 8:09 pm
@Bill
He proably had a judge trail and not a jury trail.
