ASJ Needs To Stay On The Field

So when the Bucs bring in Jameis Winston, it is all set up for him to be successful. He’s got Vincent Jackson to throw to. He has Mike Evans to throw to, which makes Joe just drool.

But what about a third receiver?

Yes, Joe would be just fine if the Bucs got someone like, say, Ted Ginn as a No. 3 receiver who could also return kicks.

Hold up. When Joe was in frozen Indianapolis, he heard talk the Bucs’ fancy third receiver is already on the roster. That would be tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Yes, ASJ showed flashes last year of what he could be — a dominant pass-catching threat. Problem is, he was in the hot tub far more than he was on the field.

Joe doesn’t care how good a guy is; it doesn’t matter if you cannot get on the field. This, as Pat Yaskinskas of ESPN.com explains, has to come to a halt.

Seferian-Jenkins should be healthy heading into this season and that’s wonderful news for the entire offense. This guy can do so much more than he did last year. He’s 6-foot-5 with good hands and should cause matchup problems for opposing defenses that already have to deal with 6-5 receivers Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson.

I think Seferian-Jenkins can be a 60-catch tight end in 2015. If he does, it will mean the Bucs will get way more out of their tight ends next season than they did last year.

Again, the possibility of the Bucs having a turnaround is real if they get the right guy picked at No. 1 and get guys healthy. This could become a lethal offense at best, and a dangerous offense at worst.

Ricky Dudley AKA ASJ is softer than Charmin and shows less heart than Michael “He’s not a great edge rusher, misses the Bengals” Johnson.

  2. Tom Edrington Says:

    Mr. Softee

  3. Ray Rice Says:

    @JOE

60 catches???? Lmfao. No FUKN way. I’d be happy if he even played 60 minutes.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

I still think ASJ will improve to warrant his high selection. If he repeats the injured again routine, not so much.

  5. biff barker Says:

60 catches averages out to 3.75 catches per game.

It’s doable if he’s on the field.

Koetter used Gonzalez quite a bit for the Falcons, some 4 wide stuff too. He’s gotta stay healthy.

  6. JoeJoes Fungi Nails Says:

He needs to learn what it takes to become an elite NFL TE….starting with conditioning….no more biggest ,fastest player on the field….this is a MANS game now ASJ

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Injuries are bizzare things….injury prone?….etc…..really strange how it hits some and not others…..GMC is an example of a great player that started out rough…..called a bust.

Some players just are either lucky or somehow physically avoid injury…..(Ronde Barber)

Some get injured early then never again….lets hope that ASJ is that type of player because…..WOW!!! The talent is there….

  8. RCS Says:

ASJ never got to heal from his injuries from college and then was rushed in trying to catch up from missing the whole offseasn. he will be fine.

  9. INDYbucsfan Says:

I think you guys are being kind of harsh. Gmc was hurt and caled a bust for a couple years. Give this dude a chance, koetter will get the most out of him. I’ll just say it now. Tony Gonzales 2.0 in the making…

  10. Senor Mofo Says:

A healthy ASJ and Charles Sims will make Mariota’s transition a lot easier.

  11. HorseForce Says:

    @senor mofo

    *winston’s

  12. Mike10 Says:

Flashes of what Joe?? Lol this guy was a marginal receiver at best who’s only appearance on the highlight reel was when his fumble was being returned for a game winning TD. Please, don’t start, unless he proves otherwise I’m calling him BJ Upton…. We just need to start trading away our second rd picks

  13. Matt Says:

Asj Was asked his last year at WA to bulk up and be a inline blocking tight end. The weight gain didn’t set well with him and he looked sluggish with sloppy body control and he battled injuries bc of it. He will be more than fine. ASJ gonna be a baller. Book it.

  14. Cannon Fire Says:

The injuries he suffers from are from overtraining. Less traing more fat. Horrible draft pick.

  16. cover deuce Says:

Some of you armchair GMs just make me giggle. He’s a young kid learning an incredibly difficult game. Did he set the world ablaze? No, but that doesn’t make him a bust either, especially after one year. He did flash some of the skills that made him a second rounder, and he also looked like just another rookie at times.

  17. 87ForJameisNOMariota Says:

the real Buck Bruce ….I don’t care. Thee end.

  18. LargoBuc Says:

ASJ had a tough rookie season to put it lightly. Hopefully he comes in healthy with a better idea of what it takes to play in the NFL.

  19. Architek Says:

This pick really puzzled me but who knows how it turns out – there’s a lot of parts in motion so we will see.

  20. ddneast Says:

If you guys want to go after anyone who is soft, aim your cynical sights on Luke Stocker. For whatever reason, Stocker has been on IR or hurt so often the team moved his locker down the street to St. Joseph’s Hospital where they have a room permanently reserved for him.

  21. ddneast Says:

Tell me theRealBucBruce, do you admire and believe all of Michael Moore’s documentaries.
I for one think they have a substantial amount of truth to them but understand he uses information that is only beneficial to his beliefs.
    What about you?

  22. ddneast Says:

If any of you clowns were GM’s, you would have traded away O.J. Simpson after his first or second season. Idiots, buffoons.

  23. WS99 Says:

    Tbbf

Not so much about luck but preparation. Elite athletes are always talking about taking care of their bodies, eating right, etc. some even sleep in hypobaric chambers. Crey crey.

Secondly and probably more importantly elite athletes play through pain. We need more Logan mankins on this team. I mean, who plays with a torn acl all year? What WR you ever seen play with a broken wrist? What DT ever played with a bruised pinky? I mean Jesus christo toughness is what we lack most.

To ASJ I say less captain Morgan and more spinach.

  24. Destinjohnny Says:

No o line boys =new smashed black and blue qb

  25. kevin Says:

    @ Ray Rice…

I dont usually come on here and criticize others posts…but its pretty clear you have nothing intelligent to say or anything better to do with your time. 60 catches is realistic if he plays 16 games or close to that number.

What team do you normally cheer for?

  26. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @WS99

I agree on conditioning…..but there is an element of luck to some degree…..sort of like the very safe driver that get’s rear-ended…..not his fault…but still gets hit.

Some hits like getting an ankle rolled up on….all the conditoning in the world may not prevent injury…..it could, however minimize it somewhat….

I also agree that certain players can play through pain better than others….Mankins & VJax are good examples.

  27. Java Says:

Can’t be a beast unless your at the feast. Stay on the field rook

  28. Pickgrin Says:

I saw enough from ASJ last year to understand why they drafted him. Talent and good potential do not necessarily equate to a successful NFL career – but its sure a good place to start. Here’s to hoping Sefarian-Jenkins can stay healthy in 2015 – because if he can – he’s a good bet to have a break out year IMO.

  29. Pelbuc Says:

Talks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Wasted pick.

  30. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Please copy this link and read it in response to the movie “the hunting ground”. I don’t usually post links but after reading this I really do feel for this kid Jameis Winston and every male falsely accused and every female who may never see justice. This will have a ripple effect for women and men because of a lie

  31. Ray Rice Says:

    @Kevin

It is unrealistic. He is not going to catch 60 passes. Stop drinking the grape Kool-Aid.

Anyone who spends any amount of time out of their day to post a message on a site clearly doesn’t have anything better else to do. Including you.

So to answer your question. No. At this point in time I don’t have nothing better to do.

Winston’s accuser speaks out on a movie just released Friday look it up

WHO CARES , Joes post is about ASJ i dont respond much but i read alot and to me the haters are just out of line, if we are lucky all this will be gone soon, and we can start winning games

PS. WEEKEND BOX OFFICE SALES STATS( Hunting Ground )= crickets not even on the board

  33. BoJim Says:

Why so quick to call him a bust or a wasted pick? Not every rookie busts out in their first year. Very few in fact. I think he had some legitimate excuse’s. Give him a fricken break.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

Last year should have been a humbling season for ASJ. We’ll see how he does going forward I guess. Competent QB play and an offensive line worth half a sh!t could go a long way for the rest of the skill guys.

  35. danati74 Says:

The great WA hope. I hope he will be fine. Highly touted TE coming out of HS and Award winning TE coming out of college. I can see why the Bucs drafted him. Besides L. Stocker stunk up the hot tub. We traded T. Wright cuz we thought this guy would be better, but we can’t justify that yet, due to he sitting in the tub with Stocker.

  36. the real Buck Bruce Says:

at Buck 87 you don’t care this guy rapes women I would rather go 0 and 16 with Glennon then to win a Superbowl with Jamis the rapist Winston.

  37. the real Buck Bruce Says:

Ajs will be great.Mike Evans and him are so angry when they catch the ball I love it

  38. the real Buck Bruce Says:

    Asj

  39. ADown88 Says:

Jesus, you guys are unnecessarily harsh. The guy was a rookie and he got hurt… Chill the hell out. You act like this has been happening year after year… ITS BEEEN ONE YEAR!! AND HE WAS HURT!! Idiots, I swear. Only on JBF will you find comedy like this.

    P.S.
I still have very high hopes for him.

  40. Howard Cosell Says:

You can feel the desperation in Joes typing.
It’s the latter days of the Winstonites.
BY the time the draft gets here it will be obvious.
You can’t fault Joes loyalty. He still visits Johnny in rehab.

  41. Howard Cosell Says:

    BRAVADO!

  42. the real Buck Bruce Says:

I would rather have ASJ as quarterback then Jameis the rapist Winston

  43. ddneast Says:

    Great post and link NewBucsFan!,
Unfortunately those who need to read it won’t. They don’t want to confuse their tiny little minds with the facts.
Let’s talk about a few other athletes who were charged with rape but were later on exonerated.
There was the young man who was a LB who many said was good enough to go pro when he got out of high school in California I believe.
He was only exonerated after years in prison when the ” victim” confessed it didn’t happen and it was a scheme her parents cooked up to sue the school system which they did successfully.?
And I’m sure everyone remembers the Duke lacrosse team. The media was leading a hysterical charge against the players cause they were over privileged and white.
Not only did we have class envy, but racism as well.
Fortunately those young men had excellent lawyers who hired private investigators who dug in and found out the real facts of the case.
The end result was the DA handling the case was fired and disbarred.
Unfortunately not everyone can hire high priced legal talent to get them off when they are unjustly accused.
But don’t let the facts get in the way before you make up your mind you crazies that wish you could grab a rope.

  44. the real Buck Bruce Says:

At ddeast, you’re right I do use information when it benefits me.

  45. Babaloo Says:

For starters the cop that came to her house when she called the police about the rape told her up front that she better think twice before trying to defend herself about the rape because the fans would hound her, Twist her words and make her feel like it would be better if she had just accepted being raped and mock along. Do your research.

The university also did not cooperate. At best it’s a he said she said. And at worst it was rape. Get over it. If he raped her he will undoubtedly do it again to someone else. Why ? Because that’s what people do when they successfully get away with something bad. Just hope it isn’t your daughter he does it to.

  46. Babaloo Says:

To get back on topic, ash missed much of training camp due to school then immediately got hurt. If you remember before he got hurt joe was commenting on how much of a beast he was. We’re gonna see that beast this year

  47. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Shed a few pounds kid could be lethal.

  48. Broy34 Says:

Mike 10 who the hell are you to tell Joe to “not start” about a topic many are interested in. Get off The site and go elsewhere if that’s the case

  49. Broy34 Says:

You all are wasting your time defending Jameis. Just wait til he wins the division for us and watch em squirm. It’s like beating a drum. Between the people here and the 2k-tards in MYPARK mode I have no more tolerance for stupidity

  50. Justin Says:

“This could become a lethal offense at best, and a dangerous offense at worst.”

No, it could be another implosion like this year…Injuries pile up and the team can’t get on the same page. Don’t start selling the “most dangerous offense in the league” just yet.

  51. BLITZ Says:

I love how you desk jockeys talk about ASJ being soft. You guys know nothing about playing on an elite level

  52. pick6 Says:

rookie years are notoriously weak predictors of a guy’s career. throw multiple injuries in and it’s imposssible to really know whether last year is going to be closer to the exception or closer to the norm. of course, given the bucs’ draft track record, history says he has about an 80% chance of being a bust simply because he was a bucs draft pick
