Jeremy Zuttah Love
February 19th, 2015Yes, one reason the Bucs were the garbage truck of the NFL last year is they tore apart what the new regime thought was an under-performing offensive line.
No issue in that.
Problem was, in dismantling the offensive line, they made the line worse and matador-like.
One mistake was shipping Jeremy Zuttah to the Crows. Yesterday, Joe had a chance to ask Crows coach John Harbaugh about Zuttah. Boy, that question sure flipped the switch on Harbaugh (who previously was being inundated with Ray Rice questions). The way Harbaugh beamed about Zuttah, it sure seemed like Zuttah was the Crows’ best man on the front line.
“I thought Jeremy Zuttah played really well for us. He’s the anchor of our offensive line,” Harbaugh said. “Our offensive line had a great year. It is a cohesive group type of an effort with the offensive line. The center leads the way.
“Very smart. Very tough. Very durable player. So, we are really happy with Jeremy.”
It seems Harbaugh doesn’t sleep well at night, not because he is always studying game tape, but he is waiting for the midnight knock on his front door when feds arrive to haul him off for intrastate robbery. He and Ozzie Newsome outright thieved the Bucs.
Joe must admit: If the Bucs pull the lever for Jameis Winston on the night of April 30, then all of this nonsense will have been worth it.

total freaking blunder…

Lovie blew up the Oline without any plan or direction last year. Lovie can not be defended for that huge mistake. Lovie is a joke.
February 19th, 2015 at 12:28 pm
Lovie should have no say, zero, none, in constructing an offensive line or judging their talents whatsoever.

I’m not sure how drafting any rookie QB can make up for the sheer incompetence in talent evaluation.

True. If we get the franchise savior for sucking really bad one year, it’s all worth it. I really liked Zuttah and thought he probably could have adequately played all 5 OLine positions (he played LT in college) better than most of the Olinemen on our roster.

Not even close. The amount of talent given away recently could already have us as a near playoff team. Drafting one player doesn’t make up for multiple, critical self-inflicted wounds.

Yea – trading Zuttah for a low 5th round pick was not a good move. Many including me really questioned that move at the time. Joseph appeared completely done and Penn did not have a good year at all and was way over priced – so I totally understood those releases. But when the cupboard was as bare as it obviously was on OL talent – why trade a versatile lineman for a future 5th round pick?? It’s not like Zuttah is some great lineman or anything. he’s very average in fact – but his versatility would have definitely come in handy last year.
Oh well. Like you say Joe (and this could apply to anything we want to bitch about regarding 2014) – if we wind up with a franchise QB, then anything “bad” or “dumb” that happened in 2014 was all for the best in the end.

Exhibt A of why I have no confindence in Lovie/licht.
Even if big Z was going to be average or a back up…. he is still very valuable bc of his versatility and experience. Your not going to find that in the late 5th round. Good for big Z though, he’s with a winning franchise and played meaningful football in dec and january.

Zuttah yet another fine NFL player out of Rutgers! Hated the move getting rid of him, smart guy and versatile. His salary wasn’t a big deal with the cap space the Bucs had last year, just a bad move.

Go ahead, get the QB of your dreams, pay him zillions plus promises of greater glory but, remember, if anyone can screw up even a free lunch it is L&L.

My plan! Giving up the Bucs for Lent. See ya.

The “very average” Zuttah basically outplayed our entire line combined last year. Which should scare the hell out of anyone that the same dolts who made that horrible line will be remaking it again this year.

Since I did not watch any Ravens games, I was excited to see Zuttah and the Ravens in the playoffs. After hearing how great Zuttah how been playing on his new team from Joe. Needless to say I was shocked to see Zuttah MANHANDLED in the playoffs.

Somehow managed to work a draft Winston plug into a Zuttah article…..really creative…
Apparently the daily Jameis Watch isn’t sufficient enough for Joe.

Joe
They didn’t thieve us. We were just stupid.

True that. Scary. Let’s just hope that the OLine “upgrades” last year were based soley on Tedford pounding the table for those guys. (Collins and EDS). LOL

True that as well.

@DRT – yup.
You gotta have better control of your team roster including (but not limited to) correctly assessing your team and when you decide to trade someone you maximize your return… Something I’d argue we only did when trading FOR another player… Put that on Licht and Lovie

“The garbage truck of the NFL,” somehow that’s just wrong. Go Bucs …..

Of all the decisions they made last year the decision to trade Zuttah was the worst.
February 20th, 2015 at 10:44 am
L&L ruined a decent O line last year and now they want to put a rookie behind what they come up with? I believe they need to look at QB coaches for talent and develop the talent they have already, Bill Bellichek has done it with Tom Brady. And other coaches have done it with former bucs. Drafting a rookie is NOT the answer.
