The Bucs Are On The Clock
July 22nd, 2009If all things fall into place, the Bucs very well could have a decent season. Who knows, maybe even freak fans out by competing for a playoff berth.
But Joe smells an ugly season. Maybe not as ugly as Christopher Harris of BSPN.com, but ugly still.
Harris is not drinking any Bucs Kool-Aid these days. He thinks the defense is going to be so horrible and the quarterback situation so up in the air, that he sees Roger Goodell walking to the podium to begin next spring’s NFL draft saying, “the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock.”
Oh, boy. It’s already not a good idea to change this much of an NFL lineup and hope to be competitive right away. Add the fact that we’re dealing with a rookie head coach and what has suddenly become one of the league’s most talent-starved rosters, especially on defense, and this could be a truly ugly season. As in I’m not going to be shocked if Tampa’s in line for the No. 1 pick in next April’s draft. The quarterback situation will be resolved in camp, but there’s really no good answer there, meaning that Antonio Bryant and Kellen Winslow are almost sure to post inconsistent seasons. The most interesting thing to watch here will be the Ward/Graham split, because I really do like this O-line.
Joe doesn’t know if the Bucs will be the worst team in the NFL this year. One thing is certain, the offense should surprise. The reasonable question will be whether the defense can keep the Bucs in games?

Why is everyone SO Optimistic about the Offense? It baffles me. The new OC HAS NEVER CALLED A PLAY IN THE NFL. Look it up. On the job training is not that easy in the NFL. Multiple blitzes, schemes (they play 5 teams that run the 34 defense), fronts, stunts, I’m sure that the coaches have it all figured out because that’s what they get paid for.
I just question all the optimism. Oh and since they have publically declared they are going to be running the ball so much….exactly which of these Tight Ends will be blocking? Gilmore is the only one who can so if Sgt. Winslow or Stevens is in, the defense will be thinking pass. Dallas week 1 will tell us PLENTY.
I’m afraid to say…..
“and with the first overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select…”
actually I don’t think they will be first overall, but in the top 4.
Won’t be long before we see how this is going to play out.
