Quarterback May Not Matter
July 22nd, 2009If Joe heard it once he has heard it a hundred times, maybe more: If the Bucs offense only had a quarterback.
Well, it may not matter. At least that’s what Dan Parr of ProFootballWeekly.com thinks. In previewing the NFC South teams, Parr thinks that the Bucs offense, outside of the quarterback position, is so loaded that the offense will carry whatever quarterback is barking signals.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski was one of the first hires Raheem Morris made after being promoted to head coach. Jagodzinski said he will emphasize the power-running game in his version of the West Coast offense. RBs Derrick Ward, a free-agent addition from the Giants, and Earnest Graham should see plenty of carries. Tampa Bay’s biggest move of the offseason was a trade to acquire Browns TE Kellen Winslow, who will team with WR Antonio Bryant to give the Bucs a formidable receiving tandem. The starting QB spot is up for grabs, but whoever wins the job will be protected by one of the NFC’s better offensive lines. C Jeff Faine is a master technician and keeps the front five on the same page.
While this analysis isn’t far off and Joe does believe the offense has the potential to be great, at some point in the season the Bucs will need to march down the field and score with scant time. Sooner or later trying to hide a quarterback will catch up with a team.
Anyone remember incompetent moron Trent Dilfer leading the Bucs on an 80-yard drive in the final minute when the Bucs needed a score? Neither does Joe.

Does anyone remember Matt Ryan? “V” does.

I do remember Trent Dilfer winning a Super Bowl…do I need to say more to refute your argument?

Yes, a great deal more as a matter of fact.
Joe also remembers Steve Mura winning a World Series ring. Joe’s not even sure Mura’s mother would call him a good pitcher.
Why, the Ravens thought so much of Dilfer “winning a Super Bowl” (cough, cough) they cut him.

Yeah and Dilfer holds the longest SuperBowl td pass(96yds) too bad it was a 4 yd pass to Shannon Sharpe who scampered the rest of the 92yds. Too funny. Dilfer just played smart enough to not lose the last 11 games(3 playoff games and SB included) he started for the Ravens that year.

Dilfer winning a Superbowl with the Ravens was a perfect storm for him. The defense was incredible that year. And he played a low risk offense. But at the end of th day he has ring. And Dan Marino does not. Its crazy !

What’s even funnier/worse is Shawn King and Rob Johnson both have rings and Marino does not.
