Jameis Watch: “Smart” Pick
February 8th, 2015Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.
It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.
The people comprising the Marcus Mariota Gang don’t so much think Mariota is better than Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. It is because, for a variety of reasons, they are scared of Winston.
Whether it is his brash personality, or his outspokenness or his swagger, Winston sure rubs a lot of folks the wrong way. Joe is not among this group. He considers these traits valuable assets.
Deron Snyder of the Washington Times believes any team that picks Winston is just smart.
Quarterbacks have never been more valuable. Breathing on them too hard can trigger 15-yard penalties. Not yielding the right of way to wide receivers can result in automatic first downs. The NFL is addicted to passing yardage and passing touchdowns, and the modern-era rulebook serves as pusher.
Teams with elite passers will be competitive — period — whether they have lackluster ground games, porous defenses or mundane special teams.
Which is why the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be smart to choose Winston with the No. 1 pick.
While Joe is not convinced the Bucs will draft a quarterback at No. 1 — remember, we are talking Lovie Smith here — unless Team Glazer takes control on the night of April 30, Joe thinks with all the question marks Mariota has, it’s not just smart for the Bucs to draft Winston, it is the only choice — if the Bucs are serious about rebuilding this moribund franchise.

More… Cow Bell….
February 8th, 2015 at 5:25 pm
@ Mr. Joeseph,
In my humble opinion, Mr. Winston has many more question marks than Mr. Mariota. And Mr. Winston’s question marks are much more serious and possibly devastating to the moribund franchise.
And that is my humble opinion
February 8th, 2015 at 5:32 pm
How would it be smart to draft someone number one that could not control them self get them selfs suspended he has the more questions and way more risks
February 8th, 2015 at 5:32 pm
Joe is an idiot when it comes to his politicking on Winston. “The only choice if the Bucs are serious”? What a stupid thing to say. Nobody really knows which QB will be better, but to act like it isn’t a close call is just not the case — look at the split of opinion nationally in every other mock draft.
If you want to drive traffic, highlight the choice, the pro and the con. But to continue to everyday pound pout this drivel is like one of the news networks taking one side and becoming propoganda outlets.
I will not visit this site again until after the draft.
February 8th, 2015 at 5:34 pm
“Teams with elite passers will be competitive”….Jameis IS NOT an elite passer
how can you discount his 17 INTs…many pure bonehead forced balls
February 8th, 2015 at 5:40 pm
2 things scare me about Winston, and neither are things Joe mentions:
1) His off-field track record – His run ins with the law may catch up with him, and if his feeling of him not able to get in trouble continues, he may do something stupid enough that gets him arrested and in jail for a long period of time (more than 30 days) and impact his ability to play, or at the very least, get ready to play football. As Ross Tucker always says, the most important ability, is availability.
2) Something on-field, his delivery, it’s been compared to Byron Leftwich (even in an article posted on JBF), and as Bucs fans know (and most of the NFL as well), you can cook an egg faster than it takes him to throw the ball. This scares me, as NFL Defenses will key on this, and be able to take that extra half second to second, and figure out where he’s going with the ball. Mariota’s, in contrast, delivery has been described as very compact and quick, something I’ve always wished we had a QB. One of the best passers of all time, Dan Marino, was said to have one of the quickest releases ever, and it was a nightmare for DBs, particularly playing zone, as once you realized he was throwing the ball and tried to make a break on it, it was already to the target WR. Not saying a quick release is the end all, be all of QB attributes, but I do believe it’s a little under rated in today’s league.
I could care less about “his brash personality, or his outspokenness or his swagger”, in fact I agree with Joe, these are perfectly acceptable and sometimes even desirable traits in a QB. But the two drawbacks I point out, definitely concern me.
February 8th, 2015 at 5:41 pm
I sure hope we do draft a quarterback with our first pick. We need to roll this dice when we have the chance at the coveted number #1 pick. I haven’t yet seen Mariota taking many snaps from center. Might he be one of those college QB’s unable to make the transition to the nfl? Will Winston mature on and off the field? Whoever is the pick I just hope Lovie choses the QB that would give us the best chance for winning games not simply the quieter more pliable one easier for him to coach. If Winston can learn to make better decisions off the field…then perhaps a little brashness, confidence and swagger is what this team needs. Perhaps it’s time to change the culture of this team. The team needs a shot in the arm…is Lovie up for the challenge.
February 8th, 2015 at 5:41 pm
“…Joe is not convinced the Bucs will draft a quarterback at No. 1 — remember, we are talking Lovie Smith here…”
I would be floored if they don’t draft a QB, bc it’s so friggin obvious. But you are right, Joe(s), we are talking about Lovie. All I know is if that happens, Harry’s 25 years as a Bucs fan will be OVER!
February 8th, 2015 at 5:49 pm
T in Orlando….the QB from Ohio that played in the National Championship game had a very compact windup and an EXPLOSIVE release !
February 8th, 2015 at 6:02 pm
Everyone talks about Winston’s record but the fact is in a LOT of close games, it was the running game that bailed FSU out.
With no running game (Tampa Bay), Winston becomes simply an above average guy who cannot carry the load….
Simple as that….
February 8th, 2015 at 6:03 pm
Seriously he has only lost 1 game from high school to college. Name a QB that has done that? With a franchise that has never had a QB & always has busts why so much complaining. His freshman year the media whorshiped him. Yes he’s done stupid stuff off the field. That has no barring on his god given ability. The same idiots who talk about wanting Manziel last year are saying no to Jameis. Guarantee you he’s way better than Manziel 1 thing is not close between Mariota & Winston he’s a great on the field leader. Reminds me of Brady with passion & intensity. I’m sure you guys still believe Glennom is the future quit smoking he’s average @ best but I do believe he could be with the right scenery & team. Like Dilfer that should give you a clue.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:04 pm
JOE, YOU PUT WINSTON ON HERE EVERY DAY , DO YOU REALLY THINK BY DOING THIS THAT THE BUC’S WILL PICK WINSTON, ( DON’T THINK SO ). I WILL BET YOU HE DOES NOT COME TO THE BUC’S. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WASTE THERE FIRST ROUND PICK ON THIS BASKET CASE…….OR NUT CASE !!!!!!!!!!
February 8th, 2015 at 6:04 pm
Drafting Winston would drive this franchise further down south! Neither QB this year is the answer, we rank 30th in terms of young talent (ages 25 and under) just trade back and build the team that way. Both of these QBs this year are a joke.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:05 pm
“Whether it is his brash personality, or his outspokenness or his swagger”
Wow….Joe, that’s one way of putting it…..
I happen to be one of those who are fearful of Winston’s character issues…..so, count me in that crowd….I believe it is up to Winston to prove that he can be a mature face of the franchise and stay out of trouble…..that’s no easy task.
I don’t really call (after being accused of rape) getting up on a table and yelling FHRITP is my characterization of an outspokeness of swagger…..in my book it’s just plain horrendously stupid!!!
February 8th, 2015 at 6:11 pm
Mariota.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:15 pm
Mariota …but preferably TRADE DOWN twice….accumulate picks….BUILD….Joes want to move the expensive furniture onto the slab as the workers work around his prize… using salvaged framing for the walls
February 8th, 2015 at 6:22 pm
Smart pick?
You mean the less marketable, more interception prone, knuckl headed, alleged rapist pick who’s main selling point is that the spread offense is somehow bad and the Jimbo Fisher offense that produced EJ Manuel, Christian Ponder, and Jamarcus Russell is somehow good.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:27 pm
If the owners and coach of the Bucs bring in somebody like Winston to be the face of the team and QB, it would be an insult and show of disrespect to every decent, devoted Bucs fan who holds the team to a higher standard than that.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:28 pm
Oh the suspense!!!!! April 30th please hurry up and get here!!!
February 8th, 2015 at 6:32 pm
All in for Mariota
February 8th, 2015 at 6:34 pm
Wow! Did church just let out?
Winston is the obvious choice for this team. Remember, all of you church goers, “Ye without sin cast the first stone.”
Give it a break. He is a kid that did some dumb stuff.
And he was not charged with raping that self proclaimed “Cleat Chaser.”
I am just glad that my younger days are behind me so I wouldn’t have to have you Holy Rollers on a Jury.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:35 pm
STOP with the Winston qb crap….He must be paying you !!! if your a season tkt holder why would you want him as the face of your team ? He is NOT the best qb in the draft and certainly not the most honorable guy.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:40 pm
The last time I checked the idea of the NFL draft is to draft the best player available not just the best player at a position of need such as QB. The best player in this draft is Defensive Lineman from USC Leonard Williams which also is a position of need. My thinking is starting to move to drafting Williams with the 1st overall selection and then looking QB at the top of the 2nd round or move back into the late 1st round and select Brett Hundley from UCLA. Since neither Winston or Mariota are can’t miss sure fire Franchise QB’s and chances are one or both could become busts I lean towards selecting the best player in the draft and beef up the defensive line to get pressure on the opposing QB and groom Hundley (who has the same skill set as Mariota) to be our next QB. Remember Drew Brees was a 2nd round selection and look what he has become.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:44 pm
Remember JOE doesn’t know crap about franchise QB’s. He wanted the Bucs to resign Josh Freeman (he isn’t even in the league any more), draft Johnny Football (who totally sucked last year and is now in rehab) and now wants Jameis Winston who’s a walking nutcase with a bad delivery and can’t read college defenses (18 INT’s last year against guys who won’t even play in the NFL.
February 8th, 2015 at 6:44 pm
So who do you think that is standing on the tables and screaming
all those naughty words? Could it be…..SATAN!?
February 8th, 2015 at 6:51 pm
Bucfan999 is thinking … Good job
February 8th, 2015 at 6:54 pm
AMEN! LOL
February 8th, 2015 at 6:55 pm
WS99,
WTF?
I thought you had already announced that we were taking Winston?
I’m confused.
February 8th, 2015 at 7:01 pm
BUCFAN999-i agree I don’t think they are going to take either QB but you never know! just cant see lovie thinking QB in first round unless he is forced to.
February 8th, 2015 at 7:08 pm
“The last time I checked the idea of the NFL draft is to draft the best player available not just the best player at a position of need such as QB.”
When exactly was the last time you checked? Teams draft for need all the time. Probably more often than drafting BPA. Best case scenario, the BPA also fits a need, but most of the time teams are picking between one and the other.
February 8th, 2015 at 7:16 pm
The Glazers had a need at HC….and see how that went….
February 8th, 2015 at 7:23 pm
Anybody who thought Johnny Manzeil was going to be a great NFL QB, loses all credibility.
Don’t worry- Winston will screw up again between now and the draft
February 8th, 2015 at 7:26 pm
The very statement that some posters are “scared” of Winston is just downright stupid. Why would one man be afraid of another man that never threatened them? WTF exactly is going on here?
February 8th, 2015 at 7:31 pm
Sure Primetime and DB are going to lobby for Shameis (The next tenant for the Orient Street Hotel) they’re alumni.
February 8th, 2015 at 7:34 pm
Interesting read: http://www.detroitlionsdraft.com/2015/02/2015-nfl-draft-quarterback-passing-chart-project/
February 8th, 2015 at 7:34 pm
It’s Sunday night….and Winston supporters are breathing a slight sigh of relief that there was apparently no bad behavior from their hero….just think only eleven more weekends until the draft to make it….but then….there is the long haul after that if he is drafted.
Winston living a life like Jeter…..perhaps…..doubt it!!!
February 8th, 2015 at 7:36 pm
In our case it is rare that BPA meets Need. Leonard Williams or Trade Down for Other more important needs
February 8th, 2015 at 7:38 pm
I wish this were a Livefyre format where I could give you a “Like” TBBF
February 8th, 2015 at 7:39 pm
im banking on it CAPTJIM!
February 8th, 2015 at 7:45 pm
Maybe you can help me out here JOE I’m confused…exactly what question marks does Mariota have that Winston don’t? Only the ones Mariota has, which are highly debatable by the way, are all on the feild and can be learned rather quickly. While as MR Winston here has way more question marks that need years of therapy as to why then hates women and treats them like trash, and refuses to pay for his own food. Those to me are real “question marks”.
February 8th, 2015 at 7:46 pm
SORRY meant CAPT-TIM*
February 8th, 2015 at 7:56 pm
Mmmm mmmm Mariota.
February 8th, 2015 at 7:59 pm
Jaaaaaaaaaaameis ahhhhhhhhhhh!
February 8th, 2015 at 8:01 pm
I am certainly willing to give Winston the benefit of the doubt on some of his immature actions……that’s what Joe & all of the Winston supporters want us to do…..but why can’t Mariota be given the benefit of the doubt….for now, at least on some of the proveable on-field issues…..things that will be proven to the satisfaction or not to the Buc decision makers prior to the draft.
The one Winston action that sticks with me is his standing on that table yelling “FHRITP”…..knowing that he was in a public place….and knowing he was under scrutiny……that to me shows he just doesn’t care what people think….that he’s entitled to say or do what he wants…..how will he be when he has a contract and a few million guaranteed?
February 8th, 2015 at 8:02 pm
Is it coincidental,I am curious, there seems to be a parallel in demeanor and temperament between Jameis and his supporters and Mariota and his supporters….:-)
February 8th, 2015 at 8:02 pm
Joe’s no the ONLY one that wants Jameis.
Practically EVERY analyst in the nation is saying so too.
BUT…go ahead and diss Joe. Have your fun while can.
Whom should we listen to Joe all these analysts and draft gurus or JoeButNut fan on JBF? That’s a tough call. Actually it’s not.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:05 pm
that chocolate chip cookie sandwich to the right >>>>>>>>> mmmmmmm
P.s Leonard Williams is a Beast!!
February 8th, 2015 at 8:05 pm
Ya see it JUST doesn’t matter what you guys say or think about Jameis. In the end he will be a Buccaneer. You guys can stay on here and continue to bash our QB if you like or get on board. Or just go away.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:12 pm
Remember 2 years ago when the Bucs took Mark Barron? How many draft guys had mocks that showed that? NONE
February 8th, 2015 at 8:19 pm
If anybody read in the Tampa Trib this morning what Coach Koetter said about what Bucs are looking for in their next QB it sure sounded like he was talking about Marcus Mariota
February 8th, 2015 at 8:32 pm
Supers am you really don’t watch football so you?
February 8th, 2015 at 8:34 pm
@ 87
It’s not what we say or think about Jameis that matters….it’s what Jameis says & what he thinks that matters…
The evidence shows that he doesn’t think very much off the football field and what he says off the field….speaks for itself.
You seem to believe that the HC, GM, OC & Owners will be influenced greatly by who “NFL experts” think we will draft…..I think they will very much make up their own minds.
I know this is very frightening to you…..and you have no control over the decision, which is not yours to make.
I think you are setting yourself up for a possible major disappointment.
I, on the other hand, am prepared to accept the decision of the team leaders.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:35 pm
What we can expect from Lovie is an outstanding first round draft selection.
Just like he gave us last year.
On the offensive side of the ball.
Go Lovie.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:39 pm
Good read Armchair.
Shows that Mariota doesn’t throw shirt passes as much as Winston. That should get the Homers all in a rage. Mariota is the best QB in this draft regardless of the nay Sayers. Draft Mariota and we are a successful franchise for years and years.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:50 pm
@Rob
I have been following the draft since it was 1st broadcast so I know that the teams that are perennially playoff contenders draft the best player available regardless of position. Other teams like the Jacksonville, Oakland since 2001, Washington since Snyder bought the team, Buffalo, Cleveland, Tennessee etc. almost always selects based on need and leave better players on the board because they may need a RB but other backs are available later and they reach for a player and impact players remain on the board.
I just feel Winston is not the best player in this draft and Leonard Williams is and to choose a QB over a stud pass rusher is foolish and dooms us to bad years for the foreseeable future.
Like I also said listen to JOE, he has such vast knowledge about QB’s in the NFL he thought Josh Freeman was a franchise QB and look at him now……Just saying.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:51 pm
Not a Buc, don’t care.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:51 pm
Joe rapist watch AKA the hunting ground on Sunday? I know it’s a Holy day but he is still a steaming pile. Just say no to the rapist. I would be happy with anyone but the rapist.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:53 pm
Arena league and CFL are the destination for the Oregon QB’s with the impressive stats.
This one is no different.
Go Jaboo.
February 8th, 2015 at 8:55 pm
Is JABOO code name for rapist? Sounds like a rapist name
February 8th, 2015 at 9:03 pm
@NDOG You really cant spell/type can you? And yes I watch football, haven’t missed a bucs game since 1997 the year I became a fan, nice try though.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:06 pm
Actually Joe nicknamed Freeman the “bust in waiting”.
That one turned out to be true.
Gonna be a very proud day for all of bucdom to welcome Jameis Winton to the Bucs. Plenty of room on the side of the stadium for his picture.
Kid richly deserves it.
Can’t wait. Easy decision.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:08 pm
@armchair Nice read and find!! It looks to me that Mariota is way ahead of Winston in every category, that’s awesome! Just as I suspected. Mariota will be our guy for sure, i’m super stoked after reading that!
February 8th, 2015 at 9:09 pm
A quarterback with a long wind and slow footwork/release is the worst case scenario for a team with a line as atrocious as the Bucs. I’ll game a quick release and a level head any day. If neither rates well between now and the draft I’d hate to see the Bucs force the issue. Sadly now coaches are given a revolving get door shelf life and that fordesign loves hand. Look at the best teams historically, consistency in coach and GPS who didn’t always win right away but molded their teams.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:11 pm
Forces Loves hand* GPS not GPS
February 8th, 2015 at 9:22 pm
Marcus fumbled the ball 27 times in his career.
Doubt Lovie likes that stat.
The NFL.com scouting report states he has poor pocket presence, and only an adequate arm.
Pass on the Oregon QB with the inflated stats. Has not worked yet in this league.
Dixon couldn’t even make a go with Chip in Philly. Similar skill set.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:35 pm
Assuming you’re number about Mariota’s fumbles is right… He still stacks up neatly against Winston’s 28 INT’s and 13 fumbles.
Also, Mariota played three full seasons, Winston only needed two seasons to put up such ugly numbers.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:39 pm
You know, the domain name joejameisfan.com is available. You guys (the Joes) should just register that domain name and redirect your traffic there. That would be a more honest representation of your blog than joebucsfan.com
February 8th, 2015 at 9:41 pm
Doesn’t stack up againt Winton’s National Championship though.
The growing weight of opinion is that Jameis is a much better pro prospect than Marcus.
That will only escalate as the draft gets closer.
Marcus might get taken in the top ten. Probably lower as the real NFL people take a look.
That’s the reality. Good kid. Not a great NFL prospect.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:42 pm
Silence!
I kill YOU!
February 8th, 2015 at 9:42 pm
“The growing weight of opinion is that Jameis is a much better pro prospect than Marcus”
Eric…it’s overwhelming.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:43 pm
Dang auto correct.
Winston.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:44 pm
We could just listen to Rob’s opinion or we can listen to all the analysts and draft guru’s who actually know wtf they are talking about…
You make the call.
What are they chirping about?
Chirp, chirp, chirp.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:48 pm

Meh. Mariota had his team in the championship too and Ended up without his Wr’s, and a defense that gave up a million yards rushing and let him down in a huge way. As teams start digging into and interviewing Winston, he’s the one who’s going to start sliding down draft boards.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:48 pm
You sold me Rob….the hell with the likes of the 20 or so analysts out there that pretty much say you don’t know wtf you are talking about.
Ramble on…ramble on.
In the end you will just have to settle for Jameis Winston. Or deal with Jameis.
See ya at the games next season.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:52 pm
“We could just listen to Rob’s opinion or we can listen to all the analysts and draft guru’s who actually know wtf they are talking about…”
Of the articles I open lately, I’d say a little over half of them put Winston ahead. Fact is, there are Plenty of articles and analyst opinions saying Mariota should be first overall, you guys just like to pretend they don’t exist and instead talk about some magical consensus at a point in the process where these guys are writing different articles every few days with different things in them to keep people clicking away.
February 8th, 2015 at 9:52 pm
Hi Rob…Have a good night pumpkin.
Hi Jameis see you in Tampa when you get here.
Hi Glazers…I have 7 season ticket packages ready to be bought if OUR team draft’s Winston. So what do ya say? Do the right thing!
February 8th, 2015 at 9:54 pm
A lot of u guys are saying it would be “disrespectful” to draft Winston? Seriously!?! If anything- its shows that we want to win now and excite the fan base. Far from disrespect if u ask me.

February 8th, 2015 at 9:59 pm
Right. I’m the ONLY person who thinks Mariota would be a better choice. You’ve got everything figured out Ms. Cleo.
February 8th, 2015 at 10:00 pm
I also love how you left Chris Simms and Shaun King’s opinions on that little list you’ve been keeping. LOL.
February 8th, 2015 at 10:01 pm
I think I’ll just listen to Rob or anyone else on this board instead of any of those guys on those lists.
Are you for real?
You trade down guys….
Are you for real?
February 8th, 2015 at 10:01 pm

That list is but a small sample of what’s to come Rob….but pay it no mind and laugh it off…until draft day.
Have a good night. This is pointless talking to the clueless.
ODB wherever you are….this is tough with these numbskulls.
February 8th, 2015 at 10:22 pm
“Have a good night. This is pointless talking to the clueless.”
Says the guy who seems to think he knows what’s going to happen when the Bucs haven’t even had their first sit downs with these two QB’s. There’s nearly three months worth of exhibitions and interviews, and digging into these guy’s pasts, but you think its some kind of done deal?
Also, why do you keep wishing me a goodnight? Is it past your bedtime?
February 8th, 2015 at 10:35 pm
Every single one of ypu who think mariota is good are crazy. He is not a guy who is gonna lead this team. Id take Winston 10 times out if ten. This kid hates to lose snd has the same fire that drives all the great qbs to win. He understands film study and puts in the time to get better. And no doubt he will get better and better. I think he understands that one mistake and his career is over. I don’t see him making that mistake .
February 8th, 2015 at 10:35 pm
I wish I had something good to add. Alas tho I have not.
February 8th, 2015 at 10:40 pm
A few people on that list have endorsed MARIOTA as well. 87 you are approaching Joe terriotry in terms of obsession over a POTENTIAL QB draft choice (I.e Johnny Rehab). The Bucs don’t even know who they are going to pick. Lobby for the guy all you want, but saying over and over again that it is a done deal and “Jameis is coming to Tampa” is setting yourself up for a MAJOR disappointment.
Hell, I’m a huge UGA fan, I’d love it if the Bucs got Todd Gurley, or had gotten Aaron Murray last year, or A.J Green. But I wouldn’t be all like “it’s a done deal, get with it or get lost it’s happening.”

Rob you are correct and once the teams get to see how far advanced Jameis is on the chalkboard and field there will be no debate as there should not be one now. Mariota is Alex Smith At Best AND Jameis is Big Ben at best. But I guess of those two you would probably pick Smith so I don’t know why we waste the time. Don’t you actually want our team To be good?

About the fumbles……Mariota ran for over 2200 yds in his 3 years….I’m sure he fumbled on a few of those carries…..
Sometimes I don’t think anyone remembers that the guy can run!!!

Winston/FSU apoligist need to just click to just click on the link ArmChairGM shared and just be quiet already. Can’t pass downfield? #’s don’t lie… #’s don’t lie…
February 8th, 2015 at 11:22 pm
Off topic, but who names their kid “JAMEIS”? I guess their parents must have been drunk and maybe meant to name him “James” and accidentally added an i to it. LOL.
February 8th, 2015 at 11:37 pm
Connor
Make fun of how he squints his eyes, his slow release, please point out all of his numerous off the field issues. Lets go through the alleged rape again. Tell us he doesnt think things through, hes immature. Go on and on about all the things that every other Winston hater keeps poppin off about. Please, lets hear them all again.
But no, you make fun of one of the things he has zero control over. His name. Dude, you win. You just changed my mind on the guy. Im all Mariota now. Lets go get the duck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 8th, 2015 at 11:40 pm
How do you kids attack Joe every single day on this post. Blows my mind. Stop reading if you’re gonna troll and post the same thing. My brother was an absolutely baphoon in college. Joined a frat did unspeakable things. Now sells real estate in Denver. When Winston smiles and talks to Lovie they won’t look back. Mariota will struggle on the pro day. It will be teddy Bridgewater but cut in half due to his high fourty. He’ll go 6 or 11-15

Hahahahaha………..looks like Jaboo is pretty relaxed.
February 8th, 2015 at 11:44 pm
He might need that thing playing behind our line.
February 8th, 2015 at 11:47 pm
Joe if you monitor this stuff do you find it funny when people say “without a running game Winston is nothing” exactly how hard is it to draft and sign a running game lmao. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO UNDERSTAND YOU CAN FIND ANY PLAYER AT ANY POSITION THAT BECOMES ELITE BESIDES QUARTERBACK. ALOT. Brady Big Ben Manning Manning Flacco Wilson Rodgers. All making 100 mill. All first rounders besides the two biggest steals ever besides Joe Montana.

Mariota’s ceiling is Alex Smith?
That’s absurd. His ceiling is more like Russel Wilson, but he’s 5 inches taller and weighs 20-25 pounds more. He’s smart, strong armed, accurate, and can improvise with the best of them when the pocket breaks down.
Either of these guys could bust, no one knows how it’s going to go, but Winston is just as likely to implode off the field as Mariota is to bust on the field.
And Winston is no guarantee to succeed on the field. Plenty of highly touted QB’s just can’t cut it. Winston strikes me as more Josh Freeman than Ben Roethlisberger.
February 8th, 2015 at 11:55 pm
Actually he has poor pocket presence, an average arm at best, and is not very accurate.
But you go Rob.
February 9th, 2015 at 12:00 am
I didn’t make any claims about his pocket presence, but you should read some scouting reports before you say his arm is weak and he’s not accurate.

But you go Eric.

LOL is all I can say
February 9th, 2015 at 12:09 am
Either QB would be an upgrade over what we have. I say after combine, individual workouts and interviews, we take the best prospect. I do think Winston had the edge based on pro style experience but anything can happen. I am just excited that we should be able to add some talent with free agent acquisitions and the draft. I also think that having an OC who seems to be healthy should help our offense leaps and bounds.
February 9th, 2015 at 12:39 am
It is easy to see those that don’t want Winston versus those that do.
Those that don’t want the NY Times to make the choice.
Those that do want the Bucs to make the choice.
February 9th, 2015 at 12:47 am
@joe – forced perspective from the guy who writes the blog is a bit strong-armed and uneccessary. It’s not like you’re actually swaying the minds of anyone important. It’s not like you even know what your talking about (insert Johnny Football references here).
Defining the reasons for concern, is different from fear of “brashness”…my fear is this kid is a fool – AND brash. He’s a preening peacock with no wings. Pedal that …. somewhere else.
…because by YOUR own logic I could easily assert that you and the anti-mariotto Mob is afraid too, afraid those of us who see the REAL Fameis Jameis, are correct. Afraid Marriota will get a chance and their boy won’t. Afraid that when Marriota gets his chance, he’ll be more like Peyton…and Fameis will be more like…Jamarcus…
Only a fool would flip the world a finger after a RAPE allegation – stand on a table – and verbally sexually assault/insult – by shouting his intentions at them as they passed before him….
…and think that he wouldn’t get any shame on him.
Only fools would support such a preening idiot.
Don’t look now, but your prince isn’t wearing any cloths…and it looks like it’s getting cold…

Somebody get the tiger his medication.
Creepy………..
February 9th, 2015 at 12:55 am
Rob,
I think Winston is actually more Byron Leftwich than Big Ben or Freeman
February 9th, 2015 at 1:22 am
Byron Leftwitch as a rook with the right OC, QB coach, Mentor and babysitter might work
February 9th, 2015 at 2:06 am
It’s just so gosh-darn cute that there are still people out there who think we will be drafting anyone other than Marcus Mariota with the first overall pick.
February 9th, 2015 at 8:04 am
Here’s what it comes down to…
If Lovie want’s to act in the best long term interests of the franchise he’ll pick either Mariota or Williams, if he want’s to act in the best interests of Lovie Smith, he’ll pick Winston. There is a caveat though, while picking based on his own best interest he’ll also be cutting his won throat, because when Winston flames out, and he will, he’ll be destroying what ever is left of Lovie’s career and reputation, well, whatever is left of that as he’s proven himself a total personnel moron already.
February 9th, 2015 at 9:37 am
Hey señor mofo I hate to break it to you but Mariota will not be going anywhere near the 1st pick. He is aready tumbling in mock drafts as it has become clear to everyone that he has put nothing on tape that would suggest he can run a pro style offense. When you make your little condescending comment above you look foolish. Who knows maybe the Bucs won’t take Winston but they certainly will not be gambling on a project that may or may not be able to learn how to run a pro system. I will be shocked if anyone takes him before the Jets in the 6th spot.
February 9th, 2015 at 10:55 am
Byron Leftwich…with an attitude and drafted FIRST overall, the right OC, QB coach AND babyysitter?
Sorry that’s a few tokes over the line…
February 9th, 2015 at 11:01 am
Only a franchise that is dumb enough to trade a Hall of Fame QB like Steve Young for a 2nd round selection or select Bo Jackson 1st overall (when he and his agent tell you he will play MLB if you draft him) would be dumb enough to pass on the best QB prospect in the last 10 years(except Andrew Luck).
February 9th, 2015 at 1:26 pm
Bizarre, same folks saying the same things everyday.
February 9th, 2015 at 10:41 pm
Winston may have more question marks that Mariota but Winston will be great now and Mariota rides the bench for a long while.
Joe, the MMob is not afraid of Winston, they are jealous.
Draft Winston but Glennon starts till he is hurt, or Winston is ready. Win win for all.
