Dirk Koetter Went Under The Knife
January 21st, 2015Former Bucs offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford told Joe he thought Lovie Smith and friends were concerned about his health in 2015 and beyond, so they wouldn’t commit to bringing him back, despite being healthy and ready to coach in November.
Given that, Joe was intrigued to learn new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is recovering from surgery.
Bucs beat writer Greg Auman, of TampaBay.com, noted Koetter’s hip surgery in a story today. Koetter is due back to work next week, per Auman. This could explain why his meet-the-Tampa-media event was held via conference call. That was hardly typical.
Joe doesn’t know when Koetter went under the knife, but the Bucs hired him just a couple of weeks after the 2014 season ended. No matter the timetable, that shows a pretty strong stomach by Lovie after the Tedford health debacle.
Joe’s thanking the stars that Koetter didn’t (doesn’t) emerge with a complication or an infection.
No word yet on Koetter hiring a quarterbacks coach. Mike Shula, the Panthers offensive coordinator, coached QBs under Koetter at Jacksonville for years. And Koetter’s former Falcons QB coach, Glenn Thomas, is still under contract there. Joe hasn’t heard of any hot names. Perhaps they’ll emerge when Koetter gets back to work.

The black screen with the big X is back Joe

Big difference between heart surgery and hip surgery. I’m sure no one gave it a second thought during the hiring decision.

Keep him away from One-MRSA-place until he has completely healed!

WTF! Man the YUCS are cursed. Here we go again!

Hip surgery isn’t likely to be life threatening

First of all, WTF, Brad Johnson?!?! Not sure why you had to reveal that in 2011 or answer in 2015. Crawl back under your rock and don’t tarnish our trophy.
As for Mr. Kotter (sp), could care less if he is wheelchair bound. Just make us more productive.

So who is the backup OC just in case?
January 21st, 2015 at 5:35 pm
@ JoeJoes Fungi Nails
I started getting that weird screen a couple of days ago. It happens every time I click on ‘read more’ or ‘comments’. It is starting to get ‘old’.

@ Sapp – You can thank our good buddy Rick Stroud for resurrecting that 3 year old “non-story” that he wrote that had nothing to do with the whole “deflate-gate” mess just to get some attention. Brad Johnson didn’t even know that the old story was news again until someone told him, so stop hating on our Super Bowl winning QB without getting your facts straight.

@Hawk and JoeJoes Fungi Nails … have been getting the same black screen for a week or more now. Disappears after 4-5 secs it seems. Weird though. Probably best not to click on it while it’s there (never know what’s lurking behind it).

Joe – please do something about this black screen that takes over with just about every click on your site.
And as far as Koetter’s Hip surgery – that is not a concern like a heart problem is. Nothing similar about it.
I wondered why Koetter was not down here when he was hired and then met the press by phone. Now I know. Thanks for the info Joe. Good work.

Joe I’ve been coming to this site for a couple years strong now. TODAY….was the first day I get a black screen pop up when I click on the article to read more. Why is this crap popping up on my screen??? Just curious. Thank you,
Your loyal reader

Glad I’m not the only one getting the black screen.
As for Koetter. OC’s don’t need to run wind sprints. I feel pretty comfortable he’ll be ready to rock. Unless he does too much squirming with L&L as they try to decide how to use that #1 draft pick. Talk about a monumental decision.
With all due respect to ALL the JBF commenters I gotta say I’m glad this pick is in the hands of Koetter/Lovie and Licht and not us!!!!

Heart surgery vs hip surgery…
Hmm. No contest.

There’s a video pop up that makes the screen go black.
Rest of comment deleted. Please don’t spread baloney. –Joe

If you stand on your head and blink your eyes at 40 blinks per second, you’ll see that the ‘black screen’ is really a subliminal message that says,
“Jameis is the Best QB, I wasn’t really serious about Johnny Football”
January 21st, 2015 at 8:59 pm
Please get well quickly as you’ve got a LOT of work to do
