Bucs Iced Out On All-Pro Votes

January 2nd, 2015

LavonteDavidLast year, Tampa Bay had two All-Pro players, Lavonte David and Gerald McCoy.

This year? Zip.

The votes are in from the panel of NFL writers/voters across the country.

The closest the Bucs got was Gerald McCoy. Lavonte David, who was an All-Pro last year, slipped considerably in the voting.

Here’s the voting tally:

Tackles
Ndamukong Suh, Detroit, 41; Marcell Dareus, Buffalo, 24; Gerald McCoy, Tampa Bay, 13; J.J. Watt, Houston, 5; Kyle Williams, Buffalo, 4; Aaron Donald, St. Louis, 4; Sheldon Richardson, New York Jets, 4;Sen’Derrick Marks, Jacksonville, 2; Fletcher Cox, Philadelphia, 2; Calais Campbell, Arizona, 1.

Outside Linebackers
Justin Houston, Kansas City, 47; Elvis Dumervil, Baltimore, 13; Von Miller, Denver, 11; Connor Barwin, Philadelphia, 11; DeAndre Levy, Detroit, 7; Clay Matthews, Green Bay, 5; Ryan Kerrigan, Washington, 3; Lavonte David, Tampa Bay, 2; Terrell Suggs, Baltimore, 1.

This is no surprise. David didn’t have anywhere near the sack and interception totals he had last year. In fact, he didn’t pick off a pass in 2014. And the Bucs’ garbage record and low-ranked defense didn’t do him any favors.

Yes, Lovie Smith used David differently than Greg Schiano did. And one could argue Lovie didn’t maximize David’s skills, aka put him in position to make more plays.

Regardless, David is an All-Pro in Joe’s mind. And look for David to get paid like one real soon.

Hopefully the Bucs can be smarter than all these losers picking Pro Bowl and All Pro. The sweetest revenge will be winning.

  2. Zam Says:

And does it make any sense to put LVD in the same category as 3-4 OLB’s? ridiculous

  3. MegaDaveUK Says:

Injuries are a bigger reason than poor play from LarryD

  4. JonBuc Says:

As to your last line in your article, I believe there’s a window about to open to renegotiate with members of the 2012 draft class like Russell Wilson and LVD. Might be the perfect time to do so given the salary cap situation and David’s “down” year.

  5. Buccfan37 Says:

Lovie put a damper on David’s rising prominence. Watch LVD really explode in 2015. The cream always rises to the top.

  6. OB Says:

How did JJ Watt get five votes as a DT? Do that many voters not know the difference?

We will have at least two on defense that are really hungry to prove themselves all we need is some help for them.

A lot of people consider 3-4 DEs to be DTs because they are often the inside rusher and many times line up over the outside shoulder of the OG.

  8. SAMCRO Says:

Yep, if you’re a serious Pro and have aspirations of getting your bust enshrined in the Hall of Fame, avoid Tampa Bay at all cost. We have “3” HOF’s in 38 years.

  9. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Those things tend to happen when your on the worst team in NFL football. Add to the fact that the play of nearly every returning Buc regressed under Lovie’s first year…well here we are. Funny how Sapp pretty much assured fans in the off season that these players would have great years playing in Lovie’s system, you just never know.

  10. Hawk Says:

Will David ‘want’ to stay in Tampa if he isn’t going to be given the opportunity to play ‘his’ game? What if he (and his agent) do not believe that Lovie will build a winner. Right now, he (and his agent) know that Lovie lowered David’s value this last year.

  11. Dylan Says:

haha.. “tampa had to all pro players” ah cmon man #Two

  12. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Well David will likely get to play in the Pro Bowl since he is an alternate this year.

  13. gotbbucs Says:

If im lavonte david there is no way I sign a new deal before my contract is up. Would the bucs love to lock him up right now? Sure. What is the incentive other than money for lavonte to do this now though?

This is a shit team and lovie is less imaginitive on defense than any coach in the NFL. Unless there is an amazing front four applying pressure in this defense the back seven is left out to dry. They need to spend every penny they have this offseason on DE’s or guys like david and verner and banks and mccoy will never max out.

  14. Soggy Says:

Well on a positive note no risk of bodily injury..

  15. DB55 Says:

I’m guessing Lovie is on LVD chit list after making him break his consecutive starting streak. Sitting him down in week 17 and for Fking up his stats. I LOVE me so LVD! We haven’t seen a playmaker like him since DB55 but I don’t expect him back after next year.

Lovie is a BUM I’d like to Btch slap him a few times for making my pathetic yet lovable team worse and not as lovable. Lovie needs a swift kick in the a$$. And father Dungy needs to STFU cuz his chit is getting really old too.

These old fkers are really getting on my nerves. Go watch some matlock episodes and let the Madden generation reinvent the game. Dude reminds me of my boss, slow ass fk, don’t know shit, just stay out the fking way and let us do our thing. Instead you want to control everything and get pissed off when you fail miserably. Lovie needs to take himself and the nice-guy club at 1BP and drive over to the skyway. Lol lmao. I get heated sometimes.

  16. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

And Revis is back in the pro bowl. Glad we freed up all that money cutting him, he obviously had little value in Lovie’s/Frazier’s D….sigh….

Oh well spilled milk at this point, but disheartening nonetheless.

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

DB55… That was funny and true.

  18. Java Says:

As they should be!! Lovie’s d was bad and the players didn’t make enough plays. Why reward the leaders of a bad d?

  19. Ray Rice Says:

The people have spoken. Aunt Geraldine is not AP. That other guy who people hate made it. And well deserved. Whodini Geraldini disappeared after the first quarter every game. He didn’t deserve it. Beast LVD will be back.

  20. Jon Says:

So Revis made pro bowl twice and is an all-pro this year and some think it’s worst trade in Bucs history? Maybe the owners made the worst hire in Bucs history that has more basis with Lovie, stats and one of the worst records in buc history.
