Doug Martin relays the chatter around One Buc Palace
The single most important thing the Bucs can do Sunday is lose. It’s downright critical for the franchise.
The No. 1 overall pick in the draft is far better than the No. 2 overall pick — for so many reasons.
This is a no-brainer. Every front office man employed by the NFL knows it. So does Team Glazer. So does Joe. Frankly, so do Bucs players, if they allow themselves to think about it.
But it seems they’re not. They’re in denial, led by Lovie Smith.
Speaking last night on the Buccaneers Radio Network, Doug Martin had the nerve to say winning Sunday would be a gift to Bucs fans. He was asked to talk about what the conversation has been like around One Buc Palace this week.
“We still haven’t won a home game. So that’s something we want to do for the fans,” Martin said. “And it’ll just be good to end the season [winning] a home game.
“Coaches are still pushing us, even pushing us harder to finish on a good note.”
Man, Joe had a rough night of sleep hearing all that. Winning Sunday would not and should not be anything a thinking fan wants.
Martin added that Bucs coaches have been preaching that Sunday’s game “is the start of the new year,” as in next season starts now.
That one-liner will really have Joe watching Sunday’s film extra closely. It’ll be interesting to see if the offensive linemen are going to start playing like a group that wants to be respectable.

I can totally see us winning the game. We almost won the first one and New Orleans will totally phone it in after being eliminated from the playoffs.

Hopefully they’re just playing and not admitting if they really were to try to lose. The aints wont have any of it and will probably be trying to lose on purpose too.
But if we’re picking 2nd and we werent going to trade down anyway, then we’ll still end up with Mariotta or Winston. I’d rather have Winston, but Mariotta could be a great NFL QB too. Both are Heisman winning QB’s and we know the low success rate of that label transitioning to the NFL.
But I still stand my ground that we should work a trade back (for a kings ransom) and work on the O line. thats where the #1 overall could really help us. Theres more than 2 QB’s in this draft who will probably play better than McCown and Glennon at the next level. Hundley and Petty come to mind.

“Thinking” fans should also know that if we do somehow manage to finish our royal screw up of a season by… royally screwing up our #1 pick position, it will fall directly on the weak shoulders of our stubborn and cowardly head coach.
This kind of talk should have us all very concerned. We don’t need some moron (whether it’s Doug or whoever) who may well not even be a Buc much longer) turning in some heroic performance on the last game of the year to in fact lose us the only thing left for us to win… which is a loss…. Anyway, I think (and hope) the Glazers are intelligent enough to have this plan CLEARLY SPELLED OUT if not already then before kickoff. If they need to pull the O line aside and offer them each a nice bonus to make it impossible for us to move the ball (should be easy for them) then do it!
If the game at any point whatsoever gets remotely close, put in Michael Koenen at QB. I don’t care if it becomes obvious! So too should be the obvious fact that we HAVE TO LOSE THIS GAME. At any, and all cost.

Joe! I’ve got it! We could call tomorrow “Backwards Day.” Give each fan a shirt printed backwards, and then have our OFFENSE play defense and our DEFENSE play offense! That could at least be entertaining!
On second thought, our defense would probably be better at offense that our offense is, so I dunno…

Let’s be realistic. What game this season could the players really say they came through and gave us the gift of a Victory? You can ignore the two lucky victories.
The only gift they can give us is spending up time so we can close the book one this sh-tball disaster of a season they insulted us with.

Only the players and coaches think a win is good. They are playing for their jobs and a shred of perceived respect. They do not think long term as their place in the NFL is judged in weeks, not years or eras.

probably be a low scoring game. both teams are looking forward to their offseason vacations. the bucs 0-line is horrible. without GMC the d-line is not the same. josh mccown has taken a serious beating the past couple of weeks. he must be quite sore. most of these guys probably don’t want to risk injury. that would screw up their vacation plans.

Just a few more yards for Evans and VJ to get there 1000 stat and a loss tomorrow for our future is all I want for now.. I think lovie is really going to try and win this one because a loss will mean he led the bucs to a every game loss at home in a season and that has not happened in 38 years – 1976

I don’t know why you clowns think any Heisman Trophy winning QB is going to succeed in the pros when history states otherwise.
Someone please give me an example of when a Heisman Trophy winning QB winning a Super Bowl or even taking his team to the divisional playoffs.

We can’t seem to do anything right and this will likely translate to a win tomorrow. We’re already the laughing stock of the league. Tomorrow’s headline: “Bucs can’t even lose right. Win the game to lose #1”

Only one I know of is Tebow but that does not mean it can’t happen.. The Bucs luck might not help much but I think we should roll the dice because if you think about it not much in life is guaranteed.. If that makes me a clown than so be it..

320-pound Scherff might be the better all-around player, scouts feel that his game would transition better to the NFL as a guard where he could be a multi-year Pro Bowler due to his lack of elite athleticism and shorter than ideal arms. That could hurt Scheff’s draft stock, as most teams don’t want to draft a guard in the top 10.

Scherff was recruited as a 280-pound quarterback out of Denison High School in Iowa where he was also a fast-ball pitcher (mid-80s), a basketball star that averaged a double-double, a varsity letter-winning tennis standout as a freshman, and a state champion shot putter as a sophomore. Although his 6-foot-5, 321-pound frame passes the eyeball test, Scherff is much more athletic than he looks.
How can this person even type “lack of elite athleticism”?

Arroyo will be busy cleaning out the office at One Yuc Place, I doubt he changed his game plan much from last week.
I’m all for starting Mike Kafka, Gilkey at Center,and We could even dust of Herron just to make sure the ball ends up on the grass a few times.
Anything less than playing to win the draft tomorrow is unacceptable.

Soggy, Palmer led his team to the playoffs and you could argue he did it this year as well. Only with in the past 10 yrs has the QBs sucked. Not all Heisman QBs are terrible.

I hope we do win so we get the second pick and we’re not forced to pick Mariotta. Every scouting report on the guy (CBS sports and ESPN) says Marcus is a one-read “spread” system QB with poor accuracy. Why the heck would any of you want that?
We gotta build the trenches. Whether it’s offense or defense.
