Cross Off Bill Lazor

December 22nd, 2014

Bucs must be ready in seven days

Damn! Dolphins ownership loved the team’s high-flying, 37-35 win against a very sound Vikings defense yesterday.

Head coach Joe Philbin was granted another season after the game, so that means first-year offensive coordinator Bill Lazor won’t be free work for Tampa Bay.

Joe had high hopes. Lazor is a Chip Kelly guy who got much credit for Nick Foles’ success in Philadelphia, before coming to Miami this year and getting full control of the Dolphins offense.

With a quickly rebuilt offensive line in the post-Richie Incognito/Jonathan Martin rea, Lazor has guided the best season yet for Ryan Tannehill. Miami’s offense is a balanced 16th-ranked attack, and 12th-ranked in points scored. (Imagine that! An O-line rebuilt in one offseason!)

Lazor is the kind of guy who can adapt a system and seemed the like an ideal fit for Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.

Oh, well. Joe just hopes the Bucs are ready to pounce on a new OC in seven days.

They sure will be. Mike Tice and Ron Turner not doubt top the list.

Will not matter who the OC is with a Hovering Lovie….hence Tedford leaving and not staking his rep on a compromised “approved game plan” by Lovie

  3. JMN Says:

If Marc Trestman gets canned in Chicago he would be another good candidate.

    REPOST

    • Rob Chudzinski – Offensive Coordinator
    • Chan Gailey – Senior Offensive Asst.
    • Jim Zorn – Quarterbacks Coach
    • Bill Callahan – Offensive Line Coach

*Bill Callahan is in the last year of his contract with the Cowboys

Interview with Licht another confirmation this organization is run bottom up. Totally bass ackwards from where any responsible and potential winning team is structured. L & L KNOW but can’t do. There, amigos, is ‘your’ franchise.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Heck, with all the #1 draft picks the Cowgirls have on their line, I could coach the offensive line. And how was Bill Callahan been as an OC in the NFL?

Just say no to Ex-Nebraska HC, Bill Callahan.

Oregon OC Scott Frost has my vote with the caveat that we bring in an NFL-caliber senior offensive assistant not named Jimmy Raye.

OUCH! Lovey Dovey just got slammed in the weekly Yahoo Sports NFL Winners and Losers article. Guess which one he was.

  8. Aceofaerospace Says:

The other option is to hire Bill Lazor as head coach. Stranger things have happened.

  9. Tye Says:

All hope for the future is and will remain tainted and bleak for as long as Lovie remains HC… His decision making is one of the worst among HC…. His reputation and history shows that he will NOT do what is neccassary to build a consistent winning team….

  10. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Aceofaerospace

    Good Point

  11. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Scotty in Fat Antonio

Can always swap him out for Aaron Kromer

Thanks Scotty. Just read the Yahoo piece on Lovie.

    Slammed is putting it mildly.

  14. biff barker Says:

Unlike most in the TB media ducking the Lovie travesty, it’s nice to see the National media print the truth.

I hope the Glazer’s take notice.

Yahoo Sports: “Lovie Smith is guilty of coaching malpractice” …….. That says it all!

  16. Aceofaerospace Says:

Just read it myself. Please fire Lovie. What a colossal mistake he has been.

    Per: Yahoo
    NFL Winners and Losers
    By Frank Schwab

Lovie Smith: If you’re ranking NFL coaches this year, Smith checks in at No. 32. Wait, the Raiders have had two coaches this year. So make it No. 33 for Smith.

Smith ruined the Buccaneers, and if he were fired after one season, it would be justified. A 2-13 team hasn’t played Mike Glennon, last year’s all-rookie quarterback, since Nov. 2. Josh McCown, who is 35 years old, was 12-of-26 for 147 yards and looked awful in a 20-3 loss to the Packers, but he was never pulled. Remember, the reason McCown was signed and is starting is because Smith needs to feel comfortable with a veteran quarterback, apparently no matter how bad that veteran is. This is coaching malpractice.

The good news for the Buccaneers is that their constant losing (and for Smith’s sake I hope this is tanking, because there’s no way the Bucs should be this inept if they’re not trying to lose) has put them in position to get the No. 1 pick in next year’s draft. Tampa Bay will pick first if it loses to New Orleans next week, and can pick no lower than second. Tennessee will select first if it loses and Tampa Bay wins. The Buccaneers might pick Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota if they get the top pick, but would you want Smith around a promising young quarterback?

Connor Orr doesn’t seem to share your view Joe. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000448190/article/dolphins-gm-to-return-coordinators-future-uncertain

  21. pick6 Says:

@Doosh, i think that is probably Philbin not wanting to delve into his DC’s future. if he had expressed certainty about his OC’s future but stayed silent on his DC (who is probably on the hot seat), it creates a whole other set of problems for Philbin. better to defer the question on both

  22. Harry Says:

I really like the Marc Trestman suggestion. He could do really well. I could go either way on Chudzinski. Luvmybucs, Chudzinski, although he is very creative and he did wonders with Cam Newton, there were times he got too cute when he was with the Panthers. If he has figured that out he could be good
