Bucs One Sack Off Last Year’s Pace

A huge focus of the Buccaneers’ offseason was finding guys to pressure quarterbacks.

The woeful four-man pass rush under the New Schiano Order had to end immediately.

Schiano contended he had to run so many wacky pass rush stunts because Adrian Clayborn, Daniel Te’O-Nesheim, Akeem Spence and friends couldn’t generate any kind of consistent rush. So the Bucs danced and blitzed their way to 35 sacks and the NFL’s 17th-ranked defense.

Schiano got fired, and Lovie Smith hasn’t improved the situation. There still isn’t much pass rush.

Michael Johnson’s impressive sack-strip today in the first quarter was his fourth sack of the season, but the Bucs didn’t muster much of anything after that. Their scant blitzes weren’t very effective.

They’ve got 34 sacks on the season. Schiano’s charges had 35 in 2013.

Joe really likes Jacquies Smith, who has emerged mightily off the left edge since being plucked off waivers. But Joe would feel a lot better about Smith if he had a big finish next Sunday against New Orleans. Smith didn’t make an appearance on the stat sheet today.

In what area is this team better than Schiano’s?

    @Joe

And so where do we get this rush? #1 pick is the QB. #2 which is actually like a late first rounder will go for what? A rusher or an OL? Perhaps all our picks after the QB should be either OL or DL?

Personally speaking, just as I’m cool with either Marcus or Jameis I’m cool with a great rusher or OL although our OL sucks worse than our DL right now, it’s easier to find an OL later than a good rusher which are always a premium.

My major desire is that picking this high we don’t make a Gaines Adams, Bowers level mistake. Whichever positions we take we should get at least two impact players and perhaps as many as two other starters.

Remember #1 doesn’t just effect the first round but all the way through the draft other obviously than picks we’ve swapped around.

Just shows the Glazer’s hired the wrong coach, again. Yet none of the local media wants to even suggest that. This team is not better than Schiano’s 4-12 team from last year.

My dream scenario would be for Lovie to be fired and Harbaugh to be hired. Then get a real coach a choice of qb

I think a far more interesting stat is that Mike Evans is 3 yards away from 1000 yards receiving and Vincent Jackson is 9 away.

ummm…right out of the gate Joe chewed MG8 (rookie’s) ass
ummm…right out of the gate Joe chewed Schanio’s ass
    4 presaeson games… crap
a few early season historical blow outs
followed by everything in the repulsive season
followed by countless articles about a college QB
    but…Ohh…Lovie….crickets….

Imagine the yardage V-Jackson,and Evans could put up with a real quarterback, and an offensive game plan planned by a real coordinator.

  9. Another J Says:

How many more sacks has the offensive line given up this year compared to last year?

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Mike Evans & Vjax have nearly 1000 yards each because our offensive gameplan doesn’t work the ball to TEs, 3rd WR & RBs…..I don’t think a 3rd WR was even targeted today. Also, they have played uninjured most of the year. I’m not taking anything away from them…..but we don’t run the ball and the two primary recievers are our entire offense.

  11. OB Says:

When McCown throws the ball no one knows where it is going to go. It is a wonder that the two receivers are near 1000 yards each.

I keep asking why Lovie is still the HC with the play of the offensive line and QB.
