Doug Martin Addresses Team Meeting Attendance

Doug Martin spent his previous two seasons playing for bad Greg Schiano football teams.
Did those teams quit in December?
Speaking on Total Access on the Buccaneers Radio Network on Friday night, Martin was asked about whether his current teammates are a little down now that the Bucs are out of the playoff chase.
Martin’s response included what Joe believes is a telling nugget of Martin’s past experience.
“Not at all. Nobody’s [saying], ‘We’re not making the playoffs.’ No one’s showing up late, you know, for meetings or anything, or anything like that,” Martin said.
“The attitude is that, like I said, we’re playing for each other. We still have these three games left and we’re going to play hard until this season is done.”
Why would Martin even reference tardiness in a lost season,”or anything like that,” if he hadn’t seen it before?
Back in 2012, the then 6-7 Buccaneers were hammered in New Orleans 41-0. It was a stunning defeat by a bad Saints team. Jonathan Casillas, who was on that Saints team and joined the Bucs in 2013, told Joe he could see “quit” on the Bucs that day. Casillas said his Saints teammates were all talking about it.
Last year, the Bucs also rolled over late in the season.
Joe suspects Martin has seen what quit looks like at One Buc Palace. Hopefully, it won’t reappear today — or this month.

It is nearing Christmas. If the team is on coast mode, why bother watching? All I want for Christmas 2015 is a playoff contender. For this Christmas, a couple of wins over division foes would brighten the holidays.

I think keeping Martin one more year to be safe and see what he can do with mariota is a good idea. Restructuring mankins give him one last shot at career.

Josh Freeman’s 30 for 30 is going to be awesome though Hawaiian. From playing for a $100m+ contract to out of the league in 12 months.

Hopefully it DOES reappear. Suck for the Duck 2015. This season has been over for months. Wins hurt us at this point. So roll over, snag Mariota and get ready for next year.

Joe dont get so sensitive. Im calling out your journalistic integrity because it needs to be called out. You’re making assumptions based on a statement that DOES NOT explicitly or implicitly imply anything about previous teammate behavior. As a journalist, I would think you would know better than that. Your putting words into other people’s mouths. If you cant see that, I feel sorry for you…
So you rip Joe’s “journalism” and accuse Joe of fabricating, yet you don’t think Joe should be sensitive to that. Make up your mind. Dude, open up your Sunday newspaper. It’s loaded with opinion pages. Joe expresses his opinions and observations daily. Since when did “opinion” not qualify as journalism. In fact, newspapers were founded on opinion of reporters and it drove the industry in its infancy. –Joe

There are a few buzz words in sports that represent to me the ultimate insult.
People can lack talent, that’s on their Creator, it’s what they do with that talent.
Words like QUITTER, or CHOKER are as bad as they come.

Amen brother. And a Happy Holiday to all. We had our staff Christmas Party last night and it made me realize how blessed I am to be surrounded by such an awesome team where I work. Let’s not take our blessings for granted.
Someday….we’ll reach the promised land with the Bucs once again. Let’s enjoy this journey as much as possible, beginning with a butt kicking of the “Stinkin’ Panthers today.

Love this site and so I wish to ask a procedural question. None of us our internet attorneys but none of us would wish to place you in any jeopardy. I can see you have this site properly moderated and so I’m sure you’re protected.
But how much are we allowed to introduce from other reporters. As a former journalist myself, long before the ‘wild west” of the internet, I always found attribution and sourcing the fair thing to do.
And so here is an example of what I’m talking about Joe.
In this morning’s “Times” Greg Auman shared some great draft nuggets to put our Jameis/Marcus, lose one for the draft, quit or not. Is it inappropriate if I point them out as long as I give him credit for the observation? If so of course I expect the rest of this post to disappear. 🙂
Auman pointed out in 1994 we were 2-9 and “blew it” by finishing 4-1 and watching our draft pick drop all the way to #7. We traded that pick down and ended up with HOF Warren Sapp. Perhaps the best draft we’ve ever had after winning 4 of our last five to drop in the draft.
Of course in 2009 we were 1-12 only to finish 2-1 and again blow the top pick which was a QUARTERBACK…Sam Bradford…we dropped to three and had to “settle” for GMAC.
Anybody here wish we had Bradford instead of GMAC. Win the freaking games guys. The draft will take care of itself.

Exactly!!!…..It’s who you pick….not where….there are examples galore in Bucs history & NFL history that prooves that.
The main value of the #1 pick is trade value…..but, I still want to win….especially against the Panthers & Saints.
If we can’t root for our team to beat Divisional opponents…then what is it worth to be a fan?

That is opinion and is certainly permitted in any journalistic writing.

That would be making a statement of fact and it would be wrong to do so without knowing from Martin himself….

Joe, I understand your viewpoint just disagree with it. Anyway, its almost game time and I cant wait to beat the living daylights out of these panthers. We’re a much improved D from the first game of the year and I actually see the Bucs winning this game – i dont see how we lose to DA again this year.

Schiano has actually gotten offers at multiple colleges. He will be HC in college next season.
