This Ain’t The Same Bucs

Since the moment Stinking Panthers quarterback Cam Newton got tossed around in his truck earlier this week from an accident, Joe has heard Bucs fans moan that the Pewter Pirates will now have to face Newton’s backup Derek Anderson.

Why would Bucs fans be scared of such a thing? Anderson, really? Yeah, yeah, yeah, Joe knows Anderson picked apart the Bucs on opening day, specifically targeting tight end Greg Olsen.

In fact, in the first few weeks of the season, if you played fantasy football, you always started whoever was playing tight end against the Bucs because the Bucs treated said tight ends like they had a stomach flu.

This ain’t your opening-week Bucs defense, however. So when Bucs fans cry about how Anderson riddled the Bucs, it really isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison.

Let’s look at the numbers from the second half of the season: The Bucs are sixth overall in the NFL in yards allowed per game since the bye week, averaging 315 yards a game.

Against the pass, the Bucs are eighth in the NFL since the bye, giving up 210 yards a game. In the first meeting between the Bucs and the Stinking Panthers, Anderson threw for 230 yards.

“We were just getting to know each other,” Bucs cornerback Alterraun Verner said of how much the defense has grown since.

So, no, Joe doesn’t toss and turn at night with the thoughts of Anderson facing the Bucs. This is not the same defense Anderson beat back in September.

There goes our #1 draft slot. That’s what I am worried about. We need our first ever franchise QB.

  2. OB Says:

I agree on the defense, but the offense could be worse, the veteran OL knows that most if not all of them will not be here in three more weeks and they don’t won’t to be hurt while looking for their next job, so expect less if that is possible.

  3. Hawk Says:

I certainly do not lose sleep over seeing Anderson under center for the Stinking Panthers. I lose sleep over seeing McCown under center for the Buccaneer’s stinking offense.

  4. Tom Edrington Says:

    Defense better, offense worse…..it’s a wash….

As everyone’s favorite coach says this team is “two and whatever…..”

  5. ddneast Says:

First off, there is no franchise QB in this year’s draft worthy of a 1st round pick. Just two QB’s who have gotten the same media hype that every ” franchise” QB gets year after year before failing.
OB, your comment displays your never ending ignorance.
Hawk as much as I hate to admit it, you are probably not only right, but also a tad clever in your remark. At least you base your assumption on facts.
Still, if Newton had been hit like that in a game, Superman would have put a towel lover his head and gone and sulked on the sidelines.

  6. LJ'sDaddy Says:

On and on about draft a QB. Wake up people! THERE IS NOT A FRANCHISE QB AVAILABLE IN THIS YEAR’S DRAFT! Not in the first round anyway. Mark my words Mariota and Winston will both be busts. You people are so hungry for a QB. It doesn’t matter if you put Joe Montana in behind that offensive line…he would suck.I am completely annoyed with Lovie’s inflexibility. I can’t believe he’s still playing McClown. What an idiot. Take that survey now and I will vote no confidence.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

To hell with the draft position…..romp & stomp the stinking Panthers……knock them out of the playoffs and make their fans cry!!!

  8. Brandon Says:

Because Newton is out, I’m scared to death the Bucs are going to win. I just hope McCown has enough magic left in him to get the Panthers a victory. #suckfortheduck #winnoneforwinston

  9. bucrightoff Says:

What a shocker Brandon has a let’s suck attitude. Lovie appreciates his willingness to “just suck”.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Wow….Brandon

“Scared to death the Bucs are going to win”…..

    What a fan!!!

  11. Fort Myers Dave Says:

You know, I just wish the Bucs would win this game and then the winless crowd would go on to cheer the Titans, Jags, Raiders, Jets, and Deadskins to a win instead of the Bucs losing, healthier for all fans of Tampa Bay….. Its the Bucs people, are you expecting them to do the right thing? Hell no.. Whatever can go wrong will, keep that in mind as you watch the Bucs against Carolina……

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

I hope the Bucs win this game just to get a division win. The win is more important than the draft spot. The Bucs are bad, but not first overall pick bad.

  13. bucs4lyfe Says:

with the way the defense is playing, I trust them enough to write this down as a win but unfortunately for us you have to play offense and defense and for all the abuse the defense had to take through the first half of the season im ready to give them props for finally showing that they can actually learn and understand football and their responsibility in this system, the offense the offense should take just as much punishment for how awful they are playing and I don’t wanna keep hearing it’s the qb’s fault because we’ve played two of them, they are awful across the board from 1-10 and mike evans is the only one with heart and desire…..cry baby quarterback geez were sad I bet other teams ask him after every sack if he’s gonna cry

  14. OB Says:

Well ddneast you say that I am ignorant for saying the OL line could be worse than the first time we met Carolina this year and implying that our QB, McCown as bad as he was. You continued your brilliance by saying there are no franchise QBs in the coming draft and you agree we should lose sleep about McCown.

Well let me throw some more ignorance at you, the Oregon QB, who you state is just hyped up and is not a franchise QB has, I believe thrown 28 TDs with only 2 interceptions so far this year.

Since this is not indicative of a franchise QB, please tell us what is oh wise one so I can at least not be as ignorant as I am.

  15. Bogiedr Says:

@ Harry, we have had franchise quarterbacks, we had no one that knew what to do with them. Remember Doug, Steve, Vinnie? Even Trent, Sam Wyche killed two careers, Vinnie and Trent. Doug, go back and watch him destroy Elway and the Broncos in the Super Bowl. Steve, hall of fame? Point is we have had QB’s in Tampa, just no one to develop them. You watch, whomever we draft we will screw him up again! Notice I did not even mention Leaky and the Schiano order … Just saying.

  16. JTHV Says:

To all the “Bucs Fan” who’s cheering for a Bucs’ loss, f off.

  17. JTHV Says:

BTW ddneast, Jameis Winston has got nothing but media hype? That’s what he’s received from the media is called? Hype? Go back outside before the adults make you clean the bathroom.

Jameis Winston is the most schooled QB in a draft since Luck. If you think differently, I won’t question your everyday smarts or brain activities. Only your ability to watch football being played on a field. 29 times up, 29 times a winner Winston is. Without all the clown cards being held up on the sidelines by 4 different staff members trying to give you a 2nd read bcuz u don’t understand defensive concepts like every other run-first QB produced by these garbage NCAA offenses.

    Guck Fator fans, draft Jameis.
