Ignore Vincent Jackson, Please.

December 11th, 2014
Like fellow Bucs WR Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, too, is nearing a franchise record.

Like fellow Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson is nearing a franchise record.

Joe has found it interesting, in a good way how until very recently opposing defenses haven’t really focused on shutting down Bucs rookie Mike Evans, despite the fact he is on pace to set a franchise record for touchdown catches in a season.

It seems, again, until recently, teams were more concerned about reputation (read: Vincent Jackson) than numbers (Evans).

The Lions looked to be one of the first teams to actually put two men on Evans, at least more than previous teams. Didn’t matter. The Godilla wide receiver still came away with two scores.

However, while the Lions appeared preoccupied with Evans, they forgot or didn’t scheme much to shut down Jackson, who racked up 159 yards receiving.

Joe hopes the Stinking Panthers take the same approach Sunday. Worry about Evans all you want. He will get his. Meanwhile, Jackson is three 100-yard games shy of tying the Bucs franchise mark held by Mark Carrier, 15.

Imagine what this offense would look like with a decent offensive line and a quality signal-caller. Sigh.

The though of getting rid of this guy makes me want to throw up. There is absolutely no way that benefits us.

  2. Buccfan37 Says:

That sounds all well and good. The Panther’s blowout of the Saints says something different.

Sure there is, we’re in better position to get the #1 pick next year too. Remember losing to get high draft picks is the way to go….

‘While the Lions appeared preoccupied with Evans, they forgot or didn’t scheme much to shut down Jackson’

Are you serious? You were in the coaches room and know how they just, ‘forgot’ about Evans? What a joke of an analysis. Professional football teams account for everything, maybe Jackson just had a great game. If things are clicking, there’s no reason to jump to any wild conclusions. If a runningback goes over 200 yards on us, is that because we ‘forgot or didn’t scheme’ against the run game? And you spew this information, let thousands of fans read it, and get on your bandwagon of why we should get rid of Jackson. He’s a fantastic leader, and still a decent player on the field. I have no problem with you saying why we should cut the guy, but it’s a crime you use this platform to take him down with that terrible analysis.

Sorry Joe, but this is a mockery of an analysis.

Joe isn’t sure how in the world you came out of reading this article as a put down on VJax, but do please pass the bottle.

  10. 1Gr8Buc Says:

What the hell is wrong with you guy? I guess reading comprehension is not a strong suit of yours huh? Or maybe it’s just the English language. Whatever you are drinking, smoking, taking ingesting in anyway I need some for Sunday afternoons.

  11. Patrick in VA Says:

@rjblitz02 – You seem to be confused. Joe is very obviously not suggesting that a team actually forgot that Jackson, or any player, was on the field. He’s referring to the matchup problems that having both receivers poses to the defense. As we’ve been saying since the beginning of the season, rolling coverage to one or the other will allow the other to do additional damage, as we saw this week. It’s not bad analysis on Joe’s part so much as questionable reading comprehension on yours.

  12. rjblitz02 Says:

Hah, sorry Joe. I jumped to a conclusion since you call him ‘V-drops’ all the time. Figured you wanted him cut. The title confused me, I read some information, and lost my cool. I’ll pass you the bottle on Sunday though, as I root for the number one pick, and watch my beloved Bucs lose again. My apology, tempers run reactive when they’re 2-11.

  13. Derick Says:

    Never mess with Godilla

    No problem! :^)

  15. JTHV Says:

I just pretend when I’m watching the Noles win (29 straight) I’m actually watching the Bucs.

Then I wake up on Sunday mornings and my dream is crushed by pathetic Oline play and a backup QB who can win a few games filling in for a franchise guy surrounded by stellar team play.

    Then I drink.

    And so on it goes.

  16. rjblitz02 Says:

Won’t happen again. For the rest of you, yes, I jumped to a conclusion. My reading comprehension is fine, though. I’m a regular reader on this website, but I skimmed through this one way too fast. It’d be greatly appreciated if you didn’t target my reading skills.

‘Or maybe it’s just the English language.’
    – It’s not. Even if it was, no reason to come down hard on someone. I apologized. Joe, I’d appreciate it if you could delete this thread to save face.

  17. DezBryant Says:

Its all good rjblitz02. If you ever watch me, I do things like this all the time. I get caught up in the passion and make mistakes with my mouth. You just happened to have a keyboard. Its all for the love of the team though and I respect that!

  18. 1Gr8Buc Says:

@rjblitz02 Just giving you a hard time. Nothing personal most would disappear after getting called out like that. Nothing but respect for owning up and admitting you jumped the gun. GO BUCS!!! 2-11 or 11-2

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What is really the story i

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What is really the story is how our OC & QB fail to take advantage elsewhere (TEs, Backs, 3rd WR)…..There is serious attention to VJAX & ME13…..leaving all others either open or 1 on 1….and we throw very few times to any of them.

  21. boxster02 Says:

Of course you don’t have to cover Jackson, McCown never makes it to his second read.

  22. JTHV Says:

Guys, the offensive line protection is responsible for creating plays away from primary routes. With our Swiss Cheese front 5, not one QB in the Hall of Fame could hit any secondary options. Except for probably the wrong secondary.

McCown could win a few games in Dallas behind that oline.

Not in Tampa. Our 2014 Oline has produced Zero run game and 2 lame duck QB’s.

  23. buc4lyfe Says:

Joe you’ve been down on v jack all year and haven’t had much good to say yet, this is the first time you haven’t mentioned v jack and drops in the same article… You finally woke up to someone’s stats of him huh, you’re just all over the place, how many people wrote for you because your so damn contradictory

  24. mac Says:

It wouldn’t make sense to get rid of V. Jax this off season… It would be nice if he would sign a new deal that pays him a few million less but if not we should keep him anyway… We have the cap space and he will be a solid #2 next year…

  25. Kevin Schmidt Says:

Thats about all I can do is Imagine. Maybe this year they draft QB, OL, OL, OL, OL, OL. Then in two seasons we will start seeing a first down or two.

  26. Chuck Jansen Says:

You say that VJax could tie Mark Carriers record. He could and hopefully will. VJax also stands to tie Joey Galloway’s franchise record of three straight 1,000 yard receiving seasons (2005-07). I’d like to see that happen. If VJax and Evans both top the 1,000 yard receiving mark, then that will be a franchise first with two Buccaneers receiver attaining this mark in the same season. The Bucs have had a 1,000 rusher/receiver combo several times. The first duo being James Wilder (RB) and Kevin House (WR) in 1984.

  27. Adrian Says:

Godilla is a threat to us all!

  28. Howard Cosell Says:

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the city’s high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream “My God” as He looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

  29. Dave Says:

OLine and Signal caller yes….. But they need a QB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Above anything else.
Very few Franchise QBs come along, just look at the NFL, there are about 7 in the entire league.

This year there are two coming out in the draft. The Bucs HAVE to get one and pair him up with an OC next year and have them stick together for years…. it is the only known way to have a HOF franchise QB

  30. dave Says:

DONT FORGET A GOOD QB TOO JOE

  31. White Tiger Says:

I can’t imagine what this offense would look like with a decent offensive line – and if by ‘signal caller’ you mean Arroyo, I’m with you…

…Josh McCown has played us into some close games despite playing with these two major handicaps.

I wish it were as easy as replacing a QB – that would mean the harder work of identifying and building an offensive line was already done…
