Which Bonehead Mistake Is Next?
December 10th, 2014One reason why the Bucs are barreling down I-275 towards the first overall pick in the draft like Joe fleeing from a scorned woman is its offense can’t get out of its own way.
The list of tripped feet is too long and too varied to document. But in consecutive games, the Bucs twice had 12 men on the field blowing up a likely game-winning field goal attempt against the, and then called time out before the first play from scrimmage to start the second half.
This is why Joe called for George Warhop to be the interim-offensive coordinator (for the next three games).
We all know Jeff Tedford leaving was just an Act of God (except those who still believe the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor) and that his protege, Marcus Arroyo, was not only over his head, but simply not qualified to be an NFL offensive coordinator, much less an low-rung college offensive coordinator (his only gig as an offensive coordinator was so memorable, his school just shut down the program).
Joe has nothing at all against Arroyo. He seems like a really swell fellow. Joe’s neighbor is a nice guy, too, but he isn’t cut out to be an NFL offensive coordinator, either.
After calling a timeout before the start of the second half in Detroit, if you can imagine, Bucs coach Lovie Smith should have ripped Arroyo’s headset off (for good) just like Tommy Tuberville did to an assistant coach when he was at Texas Tech.

You can’t be serious Joe. That’s just foolish. Warhop can’t even keep his guys on sides or lined up correctly.
December 10th, 2014 at 4:14 pm
He has more experience as a professional offensive coordinator than Arroyo.
December 10th, 2014 at 4:22 pm
But he’s coaching the worst Buc’s line in years, and we’ve been bad on the line for years!!!
Sorry, Joe, that’s quite possibly the worst idea you’ve ever had.

Anyone who’s played a single game of Madden football has more experience than Arroyo!
December 10th, 2014 at 4:24 pm
Unless… Joe, you’re a genius.
We get Warhop to take over OC duties, so he has too much on his plate to keep coaching this line. That should improve their play dramatically.

So which should it be? Cow poop or Horse poop.

Anything is worth a shot. It hard to judge anyone’s performance on the offense based on the way our scene has been run this year and the type of plays that have been called.
I knew it was bad going into the fourth game of the season. Somehow we pulled a miraculous win out of Pittsburgh but then we returned to the same muddled look we had seen in the previous three weeks.
Consistently bad routes being run and the same old power run game between the guard and the center left no one off balance.
Just because one scene worked against Pitt doesn’t mean it will work against the next few teams. They all have different personnel and strengths.
Our offense seems to say one size fits all.
December 10th, 2014 at 4:39 pm
An interim co-ordinator with three games left? Lovie would tacitly admitting what a disaster his staff is. That is not happening.
December 10th, 2014 at 4:42 pm
Turn the offense over to a 13 year old with an XBOX and Madden. Because why the f*** not? AT LEAST IT WOULD BE INTERESTING.
December 10th, 2014 at 4:47 pm
Joe- did you ever find out why that timeout was called or just assume it was Arroyo’s fault?
December 10th, 2014 at 4:48 pm
@ bucrightoff
Exactly….what kind of that message would that send…..after asking Arroyo to do a job he wasn’t hired for…..humiliate him with three “meaningless” games (according to Joe)
And Warhop??? Now I’m for sending him packing and bringing in Kenyatta Walker as Oline coach the rest of the way!!!
December 10th, 2014 at 4:58 pm
why not get ray perkins(former bucs head coach claim to fame he fired jon gruden’s bucs offensive coordinator father. in return jon gruden fired ray perkins as offensive coordinator when he became raiders head coach) out of the nursing home to be offensive coordinator.

Here is a list of QBs drafted 1 or 2 overall ( Sans Vince Young) he was 3rd
Andrew Luck
Robert Griffen III
Cam Newton
Sam Bradford
Matt Stafford
Jamarcus Russell
Vince Young
Alex Smith
Eli Manning
…………………………………………………
How many of those guys came in and turned their team around in even two years besides Luck? and he basically had Peyton’s OL for him in his rookie yr.
We need an OL
December 10th, 2014 at 5:24 pm
Warhop? That’s craziness Joe. Go waterboard yourself and snap out of it.
December 10th, 2014 at 5:25 pm
Just what we need. Try another experiment now. The season is dead. Wait until the off season then do what needs to be done. Beg a real OC to take the job!
December 10th, 2014 at 5:28 pm
Arroyo is not really the one to blame for this offensive mess… Both Lovie and Licht totally screwed up an already bad offensive line, our running backs and tight ends are just as bad… Lovie made a terrible choice for OC and this is the result…
Take it easy on Arroyo for goodness sake he was just in high school a few years ago…
December 10th, 2014 at 5:33 pm
Mac- it’s easier to dump on the poor QB coach than the guys in charge
December 10th, 2014 at 5:36 pm
Hey look, my comments are awaiting moderation again. What gives?
December 10th, 2014 at 6:15 pm
We have many needs and OL is a major problem however, with a top pick, we have to go QB. How many franchise QB’s are ever available in free agency? I can’t think of one since Drew Brees. Yes it probably will take a couple of years for a rookie QB to begin to flourish but considering that we are going to have a new OC after the season even a veteran QB will have a new offense to learn. Let’s face it, regardless of if we go OT or QB 1st it will be s couple of years to begin to see major improvement.

Piling on Warhop maybe?
December 10th, 2014 at 6:17 pm
Gotta go with a QB. Sit the guy until the revamped OL comes together.
December 10th, 2014 at 6:18 pm
Arroyo = zero creativity. I would like to see the offense brought up to an D1 level. There is zero progression from game 1 to game 12. Go for it on 4th and short.
December 10th, 2014 at 6:23 pm
I blame Warhop much more then Arroyo, since Mankins, Smith, and Collins were all good players, before they got to Tampa.
The blitz packages the Lions used against us were very vanilla, yet we did not pick them up.
How can anyone really blame Arroyo, when his O Line has failed him.
Because of our Poor O Line play, we can’t run, and control the ball.
Our D is playing tired much of the time, so they break down.
Then, because we are so far behind, we are forced to pass, and other teams just tee off on us.
Warhop needs to be sent packing next year, that’s for sure!
December 10th, 2014 at 6:27 pm
Your neighbor has as much NFL experience as Arroyo Joe so let’s give him a shot. Send him on down to one Buc.
December 10th, 2014 at 6:35 pm
Or just bring in a experienced consultant to perform quality control functions.
December 10th, 2014 at 6:37 pm
What if we never win a game again?????
December 10th, 2014 at 7:29 pm
I think Chris@apple Roof Cleaning is closest to the truth (Warhop) for the disaster of the offense, which of course points back to Smith and Licht.
December 10th, 2014 at 7:40 pm
The only bonehead mistake I’m worried about between now and the end of the season is if the Bucs accidentally win a game and lose out on having the first overall draft pick in the 2015 NFL Draft!
December 10th, 2014 at 7:44 pm
The Bearded Turd will do his part to make sure there’s a bone headed mistake or two. He hasn’t snapped it over the QB’s heads yet so my prediction is he’ll do it when we are at the one yard line and the Stinking Panthers will get a 99 yard fumble recovery touchdown.
Just to finish off his sh1tty 2014 resume
December 10th, 2014 at 7:57 pm
Joe I agree put Warhop in there.

Agreed, and throw Cryin’ Leif, and Tim Couch to your list as well as Akili Smith who was the 3rd overall in the draft that had Couch going to the “flush em down Browns”. The % of nailing down a franchise qb with the top 2 or 3 overall pick is definitely not 50%. However most top 5 OT usually do not turn into busts with few exceptions: (Mandarich, the Bucs McRae 6th overall 1991 and his Vol teammate Antone Davis 7th overall come to mins\d and all werre over 20 years back). A kid like Scherff would be what I think the Bucs OL could use as an anchor for the next decade if they were to draft him out of Iowa. He looks to be rock solid like Joe Thomas but the Bucs will probably go qb or trade down the pick but all of us are guessing until Roger G opens up the spring draft and tampa drafts makes its selection or trade in the first 30 minutes or so of the draft….
December 10th, 2014 at 8:25 pm
BTW Joe, did I miss something or did Wyoming or Southern Miss do a Kavorkian on their football program? I heard UAB was considering this as well. I think those are the 2 programs I read about Arroyo being an OC for in D-1 football? I wish it was Southern Miss: hated when Coach Bowers said that South Florida had no business playing football in 2000; glad Leavitt’s boys went back a year or 2 later and made the arrogant @hole eat his words.
December 10th, 2014 at 9:24 pm
Lest we forget, Arroyo now has way more professional experience than the much heralded Tedford. I have no idea why we cling to the belief that Tedford was the Messiah.
Has Lovie been right on anything?
December 10th, 2014 at 10:13 pm
@tgreg not a one pal this guys a idiot period and we are stuck with him. I never liked the hire and they should have let schiano have another year but old news. the only bright spot since lovie dovie moron! is m evens and no team in the nfl would have past on him at tampa bays spot in the draft.

this season was A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY FOR THE FANS AND GLAZERS! that’s for the fans that payed there hard earned money going to see this CLUSTERF..K of a team this DC coach at best together!
December 10th, 2014 at 10:26 pm
they will 87 but I bet this idiot does not take a QB not in the first round anyway unless he is forced! to.

Joe, could you possibly do something about the language being posted out here and the monikers people are giving themselves. I know the intelligence level of many of the people who post out here mirror those of third graders, but sometimes I feel like I’m sitting in a truck stop restroom when I glacé at some of them.
“Bearded Turd.” I mean seriously. What simple child like mind even thinks up something like that. Sounds like someone who experienced some serious trauma when he was being potty trained.
