Depressing

Though some fans disagree, drama is the staple of a sports team’s popularity. Without drama (and wins and the chase for a championship is very much drama), you have apathy. And then you are irrelevant.
The only thing keeping the Bucs relevant in this putrid of all putrid seasons is the hunt for the No. 1 overall in next spring’s draft. Without it, the Bucs are nothing more than the Jags without the first-round-pick quarterback, his big-breasted blonde, cleavage-baring former girlfriend, and fancy, hi-def replay boards.
How ugly has the season become? Well a journalist for no less a publication than the august Wall Street Journal Twittered out the blues he finds himself in on a weekly basis thanks to the Bucs.
There is no more depressing weekly news than Tampa Bay Buccaneer starting quarterback updates.

This may come as a shock to many of Joe’s readers, but Joe doesn’t get to watch a load of NFL games live, only because Joe is always working. When the Bucs are playing, say, a 1 p.m. game, Joe misses the rest of the 1 p.m. games and most of the 4 p.m. games.
But late Sunday, thanks to the magic of DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket, Joe had a chance to watch Andrew Luck and, of course, watched Aaron Rodgers and Matty Ice last night. It is really jarring to the senses to see NFL teams actually use their quarterbacks as weapons, as offensive assets, when you are watching the Bucs on a weekly basis.
Sometimes, Joe thinks he is watching a fiction movie, seeing quarterbacks lead their teams down the field multiple times a game, scoring touchdowns and not just trying to hide a quarterback and praying said quarterback doesn’t fumble a snap twice a game.

Its almost as if Lovie is trying to sabotage the team, like he is making up for the wrong that happened to Tony Dungy. Every decision has been horrible.

That’s been my point all season. Watching Luck and a few other young promising QBs lead unfinished rosters to contention makes my stomach turn and make me apothize the Bucs even more.
We are so ineffective and uninteresting as a franchise. I can’t blame the national viewers and NFL for passing on us.
I watch Luck every week now and I find myself yelling and jumping and extremely entertained.
Bucs it’s just (Blank) boring football…

I floated this to you on twitter, but I have a strong suspicion that Lovie let Tedford make most of the picks on offense, maybe even at quarterback.
When you think about it, it makes sense. You are knocked your whole career for not understanding offense, and you find a guy you grow very close to and he’s going to be your wizard. Wouldn’t you give him everybody he wanted?
Moreover, if you wanted somebody that he didn’t, wouldn’t you avoid that guy? Or if he thought a player was crap, say Donald Penn, you’d get rid of that player at the first opportunity.
My hunch is that all these offensive offensive picks were based primarily on Tedford’s poor evaluations, not Lovie’s. I have no evidence to back that up, but it fits the facts perfectly.
If I’m wrong, it’s hopeless because Lovie will keep picking junk players. But if I’m right, and we bring in a new offensive coordinator, we have reason for hope next year.

I thought this upcoming week you will be so excited! as our beloved bucs struggle once again, Joe’s hero Johnny Football will be riding in on his white horse ( the figurative meaning, not the drug reference). Now will be the big chance for the old ” I told you so!”

Cam Newton getting a bad car wreck the week of the Bucs game, opening the possibility that the Bucs may actually win another football game and therefore eliminate our shot at #1 overall pick. Now that is depressing.

It is depressing alright. Without the high draft pick what is there to look forward to? A higher draft pick perhaps. The team can be #1 at something.

Some people quit watching the Bucs, and turn to better teams because of the sh1tty product on the field. I’m the exact opposite. I quit watching other games, because I get myself into a jealous rage watching their competent QB’s and imaginative OC’s, and their efficient HC’s.
The rest of the league can get bent!!

What I find interesting is the debate between Mariota and Winston… I was surprised at the pole I noticed on another site and how big the difference is…. As of a few minutes ago :

I did not think the fan base would agree that much on anything… Let’s face it, these past few years we rarely haven’t agreed on anything…
I want nothing to do with JW… The Bucs have had all they can handle when it comes to drama… Finally getting a possessed “TOP” QB at the cost of all the problems he will bring and issues with his character is foolishness after we have waited so long and have been through so much turmoil… Get an accurate passer that can read coverages and adapt who has good character from wherever and become a respectable winning team!
Well, at least do better until a good quality HC becomes available!

Well Joe if you want drama why not go out and create some? You’re part of the media…dig up some dirt on Lovie like finding at least one former player who didn’t like him. Heck maybe finally solve the great mystery of what really happened to Josh and who “the leak” really was. Seems like the media had no issues running unverified stories about Schiano last year (medical records, ballot-gate, etc), so why the kid gloves for Lovie and the crew piloting a 2-11 team?4
First, Joe’s sure there are plenty of players out there who don’t like Lovie. Who cares? I watch the Bucs games to see how hard they compete and who will be on the team next season. I don’t want them to win but I do want them to give teams a scare. Although I would like to see them shock vegas, fantasy, and the NFL by beating the Packers. Not just beat the Packers but really hold Rodgers to a below average day.

There is hope for part of this team to go to Arizona when the season is over. Besides the SB, Arizona is a bone yard for aircraft and since a lot of Bucs can’t fly as a pro, they should be retired to the bone yard there. Some coaches also including Lovie.

First, I want to wish Cam newton a speedy recovery. Whether he plays or not the Panthers that just played in New orleans looked like a kick – @$$ bunch. They could sign Chris Weinke, start him and win by 14-17 with that defense. After watching Packers last night, I give the Bucs a 20% chance. But 12-28-14 I want them to win and win big. I hate the Saints. HATE THEM!!!!! GO BUCS

You are right about how at least having a decent qb makes bad football teams like the ATL at least interesting to watch. Their defense is worse than the Bucs, their OL stinks and they are 1-9 outside of the NFC South but they are still bearable to watch as Matty Ice can actually make some plays to Green, Roddy W and that kid who normally only shows up when the Bucs play him: Harry Douglas plus they actually have a special team unit that is competent…. Too bad the Yuks are missing that, even if they draft a franchise QB with the coming top 2 pick the Bucs could simply be like the Jags next season: more bad football while the rookie QB learns, its gonna be awhile before Tampa does not lose 10+ games in a season; like the old creamsicle streak finally broken by Wyche’s boys when Sapp and Brooks were rookies: “FIVE dash TWO”, best comment made by a Buc coach not named McKay….

My favorite comment ever made by a Buc’s coach comes from Gruden.

Having been a Bucs fan since 1976 I would always do everything possible to see every Bucs game. Having lived out of state now for a long time every Sunday I would go to the Green Turtle and watch the Bucs on TV. But since last year when they lost to the Jets I haven’t been back to the Green Turtle since. I don’t see any reason to put myself through the suffering of watching them play. As bad as Schiano was last year Lovie is much worse. If the Glazers are smart they will take control of their team and get rid of this coaching staff and front office and take Jameis Winston number one and get some people in here that know to run a football operation and add some excitement to this team so people have a reason to watch them because right now it’s nice to sit back and watch a football game where the teams know how to play football. Because the Bucs don’t have a clue as to what they’re doing.
