Dubious Decision To Play GMC
December 7th, 2014Look, few are bigger fans of Gerald McCoy than Joe. All the years short-sighted fans parroted a certain someone who works behind a microphone for a living, who spouted nonsense that GMC was a bust, were outrageous.
Joe documented how sorry and small folks were for such nonsense.
Today, there is no way Bucs coach Lovie Smith should have put GMC back on the field after a first-quarter knee injury.
GMC went down and limped off the field. It was ruled, per FOX reports, that GMC hurt his knee and was questionable to return. He returned shortly thereafter.
Why? What the hell was the point? Let’s look at the big picture here. The team just signed GMC to a crazy contract extension and by any measure, GMC is the most important player on the roster.
The Bucs were 2-10 to begin the game. This game today against Detroit meant nothing, other than for the Bucs to get closer to that coveted No. 1 overall pick.
Joe thinks it was absolutely reckless to put GMC back on the field. On a turf field. With a gimpy knee. If he blows that knee, he is maybe out for maybe a calendar year, and perhaps never the same again.
Shoot, two weeks ago at Soldier Field, Joe was told to his face by Bucs officials that Lavonte David, bad hamstring and all, could have played but the Bucs felt it was smart to hold him out of the game given the chilly temperatures, the rain and the notoriously awful turf of Soldier Field.
So why wasn’t the same standard and courtesy applied to GMC?
Yes, Joe understands GMC is a warrior and self-professed team leader, and that all but demanded his return to the field. But it was just a dumb move for the big picture and, frankly, dangerous.
UPDATE: The creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, is reporting that GMC suffered a dislocated kneecap.
Per league source, Bucs DT Gerald McCoy dislocated knee cap at Detroit. He returned and played despite the injury.

Maybe lovie is getting desperate cause he hears that the bucs are moving to LA…
December 7th, 2014 at 5:49 pm
I guess the game wasn’t meaningless to Lovie….or Gerald McCoy for that matter…..I seriously doubt he would go back into the game if he was too injured.
Using the “meaningless game philosophy”….we should sit most of our top players to keep them from potential injury…..maybe except ME13….to keep his ROY chances alive.

Not many decisions Lovie has made are NOT “dumb” moves. Par for the course.
December 7th, 2014 at 5:51 pm
All these scratch your head moves seem troubling.

Love how Joe toots his irrelevant horn at the start of most articles.
December 7th, 2014 at 6:04 pm
If there was any danger, he wouldn’t have played. It was either a strain or a bruise. Obviously, he was okay. Otherwise he wouldn’t have had a late game sack.

Joe give me a break. GMAC saw how the bugs were getting torched and decided to go down pretending to be injured. This gives him an excuse in case Suh performed better than him and guess what Suh dominated and McCoy was a no show. If he was seriously injured he wouldn’t have been playing. GMAC is a joke and so is this team.
December 7th, 2014 at 6:16 pm
Cumulative effect…..asked before and ask again if Joe is starting to lose confidence in Lovie and his continued dubious decision making??
Sure sounds like it.

McCoy is a true a Buc. Dude gives it his all. Too bad we’ve been wasting him under Morris, Schaino, and Smith. He deserves better.
December 7th, 2014 at 6:33 pm
Dislocated knee cap? Why risk him like that?
December 7th, 2014 at 6:41 pm
DISLOCATED KNEE CAP??!!! I had a similar injury in the Army, and I can attest, it is neither fun nor “minor”. For GMC to go back out and play (and play WELL) in an NFL game after sustaining that tells me two things: a) He is a STUD and anybody questioning his heart or toughness needs to STFU immediately and b) this staff is clearly desperate for their own jobs to risk further injury to this guy.

I call BS on kneecap.
December 7th, 2014 at 6:50 pm
Well we held them to only 34 points but we didn’t want to tire them out so we gave them the ball around our 35 yard line to help both our defense stay rested and their offensive not being able to build momentum on long plays, but some how this didn’t work, Oh well McCown tried to do something.

Dubious decision to pay McCoy that kind of money
December 7th, 2014 at 7:36 pm
… just gotta lose that “L” Joe
December 7th, 2014 at 8:06 pm
Dumb =Lovie…on a good day
December 7th, 2014 at 10:37 pm
the last thing im going to care about is a 100 million dollar football player earning his money…
so what…
December 8th, 2014 at 12:05 am
Dislocated knee cap and he still played on. That cant be true because there is a couple turd knockers on here all the time saying that GMC is “soft”.
December 8th, 2014 at 2:00 am
They’re leaving no stone unturned when it comes to running this franchise into the ground.
December 8th, 2014 at 7:39 am
Suh was dominant the whole game. Dirty or not he more than got the job done. You never saw Geraldine mixing it up. Let’s trade his offside for a roughing the passer and actually make the opposing quarterback fear him!!! He is soft and nowhere near the player Suh is. Just saying…….

@indybuc
Is that LA talk a joke? ST Louis, Oakland and San Diego are in or near the last year of their leases just so you know and they just a bit more of a tie to that area. Just because your team sucks it’s not tied to relocating
