Martin Reveals Schiano No Celebration Policy
December 6th, 2014Greg Schiano regulated room temperature, meal temperature, airplane temperature, movie titles, water-bottle holding and much more.
So, of course, Schiano had his own rules on celebration.
Notice how Doug Martin spiked the football when he scored a touchdown against the Bengals on Sunday? That was completely within NFL rules, but it was not approved under Commander Schiano.
No. No. No. Schiano was not about to permit a spike without punishment.
Martin made the revelation last night on Total Access on the Buccaneers Radio Network when host TJ Rives noted Martin’s rare spike on Sunday.
TJ Rives: Was that just an excitement thing? You don’t slam it down all the time. Typically, you don’t.
Doug Martin: When Schiano was here, we weren’t able to do all that stuff. We had to either hand the ball to the ref or just drop and no celebration. That was my first spike, by the way.
Martin scored in Pittsburgh back in September but opted for no celebration, perhaps still hearing Commander Crazy in his head.
Man, Schiano’s rule in this case was nuts. The NFL lets you spike the ball. Sheesh.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:02 pm
I guess that explains why no one wanted to score a touchdown.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:21 pm
I heard that on the radio too. Was gonna mention it but everyone was caught up on the press release last night. Apparent there was a method to schianos madness.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:23 pm
Best TD celebration ever = Barry Sanders.
Act like you’ve been there.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:25 pm
Zam
Ha! You forgot the Boom Pow Zing. Lol
December 6th, 2014 at 4:31 pm
I’m sure I’m wrong but I think jerry rice just handed the ball to the ref too. Hey, why be like sanders and Rice when you can be like ASJ. Thanks Ocho Cinco.
Bc of ochocinco the celebration rules were changed.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:34 pm
Jerry Rice spiked the ball on occassion. So did Walter Payton. So does Tom Brady. I just hope we get more opportunities to either spike the ball or hand it to the ref.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:38 pm
I’d take Schiano as coach back in a heartbeat over what’s here.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:38 pm
ASJ and Evans both got penalties for celebrating after TD. Act like you been there before or celebrate when you get back the side line.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:41 pm
Why not take out a sharpie while you’re at it. Or take out a cellphone and take a selfie as you go 2-11. I mean let have some fun!!! Winning is for losers.
December 6th, 2014 at 4:50 pm
Didn’t Dougie dance when he ran crazy against the Raiders
December 6th, 2014 at 5:10 pm
No DB55! Best TD celebration ever was #40. Hand the ball to the red, adjust your jock and go bang a hot chick after the game.
Go Sucs!
December 6th, 2014 at 5:27 pm
@eliot
That’s works, even better.
December 6th, 2014 at 5:28 pm
ASJ is a jackass. McClown is gonna be in serious pain on Monday.
December 6th, 2014 at 5:36 pm
We scoire so little….I’d welcome a few more penalties……maybe Patrick Murray can celebrate for us…..
December 6th, 2014 at 5:39 pm
@tbbf
Yea maybe he can’t jump in the air and break his knee.
December 6th, 2014 at 5:44 pm
Let’s be real here ? What talent did schanio leave us besides david ?
December 6th, 2014 at 5:56 pm
Hmm… interesting article Joe. So you’re making a point to criticize a coach for having structure and discipline when what our team so desperately needs is… structure and discipline…
I’m not arguing that Schiano is or was the right guy, but let’s have a bit of perspective here. Why bother criticizing or poking fun at your raggedy old car you just got rid of when the one you replaced it with is still a hooptey?
December 6th, 2014 at 6:02 pm
*can
December 6th, 2014 at 6:10 pm
Too bad he didn’t have a rule that said you had to tackle the ball carrier or prevent the other team from catching a pass.
These are young men and they want to celebrate their good deeds and they should be able to without breaking the rules. I would love to see them toss the ball in the stands to some kid or military member than spike it but if spike it is what they want so be it.
December 6th, 2014 at 6:21 pm
Todd Says:
Let’s be real here ? What talent did schanio leave us besides david ?
———————————-
Let’s be real Todd. 2-10?
Lovie’s boys are really tearing it up though!
December 6th, 2014 at 6:21 pm
@walt
Lovie def sold us a lemon.
December 6th, 2014 at 6:27 pm
Off topic but, I want bama to meet FSU in the playoffs so we can end this garbage debate. #28-0 #1 #Seminolesbaby
December 6th, 2014 at 6:37 pm
Off topic as well. As I sit here in an alcohol induced haze pondering the future of our hapless Buccaneers, watching Alabama pretty much have it’s way with Missouri.
It suddenly came to me. Every one of FSU’s Heisman Trophy winners last names all started with “W”.
Charlie Ward
Chris Weinke
Jameis Winston
Coincidence?
Cue Twilight Zone theme music.
December 6th, 2014 at 6:43 pm
Idk sounds like something other than alcohol. Are you posting from Colorado by chance?
December 6th, 2014 at 6:44 pm
@DB55 id like the 2 possible no.1 pick go at it
December 6th, 2014 at 6:53 pm
DB55,
No, not in Colorado.
It may have been an LSD flashback though.
December 6th, 2014 at 6:54 pm
#truestory
December 6th, 2014 at 6:56 pm
@areal
As a fsu fan I take it as a personal insult that we’re not #1. Even though I don’t watch all the games and can’t hold an informed discussion about them. Nevertheless that some buuuuullllchiiiiiit.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:08 pm
Seminoles should be No.1 because of their record, but only the homers actually believe they are the best team in the nation.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:12 pm
^^^^^^
Total FSU homer.
I don’t know enough to speak intelligently so in a debate I just speak louder and angrier until I win. Sound familiar?
December 6th, 2014 at 7:17 pm
Lmao, I feel ya.
But I have watched a few FSU games because of Winston and I gotta say, IMO a team like Oregon or Alabama would rip them a new one.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:17 pm
I agree, FSU should be #1 because they have’nt lost. I think Alabama would beat FSU.
December 6th, 2014 at 7:42 pm
Idk, that defense plays big and that kid cook can run his a$$ off. If Winston catches fire it over. Lane kiffen is hot basura. I’m not convinced it would be a one-sided victory for bama. But then again I’m a homer so there’s that too. Next comment will be typed in all caps. Lmao
December 6th, 2014 at 7:59 pm
That Kate upton game of war commercial gets me everytime. I’d trade places with that horse in a heartbeat. If you know what I mean.
December 6th, 2014 at 8:48 pm
Don’t have a problem with spiking or genuine shows of emotion but most of what we see has been thought up and practiced as a way to say “Hey, look at ME, look what I just did!” It’s a team sport jackasses, act like you’ve been there before!
December 6th, 2014 at 9:39 pm
he was trying to instill discipline into a bunch of kids who could not handle freedom under RAH , I’m sure little by little he would have backed off as all these young guys grew. Hey you should have article why LOVIE doesn’t have more rules cause the celebration penalty would not have been called on ASJ.. This team gets more penalties for bone head stuff.. O ya LOVIE has a pass with media
December 6th, 2014 at 10:01 pm
Love it !!! Always act like you been there before. Most fans in Tampa wouldn’t know that. Love it!!! Martin needs to get in the end zone and not worry about celebration till you win a freaking game!
December 6th, 2014 at 10:02 pm
Also Schiano had a better record so something was working!!
December 6th, 2014 at 11:24 pm
@buccfan37
HELL YA
December 6th, 2014 at 11:29 pm
@greg
Touché
December 7th, 2014 at 12:18 am
Obviously Lovie loosening the reigns on the team and treating them like men has been effective. 2-10 and still sinking
December 7th, 2014 at 1:58 am
With Schiano’s rules, ASJ and ME13 both would NOT have gotten those penalties after scoring. Just think, we could be 4-8 instead! #winning
December 7th, 2014 at 7:48 am
Zam wins this thread with the very first post. Well done.
December 7th, 2014 at 9:59 am
Tech couldn’t stop FSU’s offense last night. What makes anyone think Bama could? They gave up 600 yards and 44 points to an Auburn team with an inferior QB to Winston.
December 7th, 2014 at 10:40 am
I would take the “good ol days” of schiano over the garbage we are forced to watch now.
December 7th, 2014 at 11:12 am
2 and 10 teams should not celebrate.
December 7th, 2014 at 4:28 pm
I can’t stand any player celebrate a tackle cause it their job and paid to tackle they look so stupid doing it. But after touchdown it’s ok to do little something.
December 7th, 2014 at 4:35 pm
“Commander Crazy” is looking pretty good about now!
