Gerald McCoy On Fire

The other day when Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy had his weekly press briefing — it grew so large the Bucs had to move it out of the locker room and into the press conference room because so many members of the local pen and mic club surrounded GMC’s locker that other players couldn’t get to theirs — the last question posed to GMC was his forever connection to the guy drafted one spot ahead of him, fellow Big XII product and defensive tackle, Ndamukong Suh.
GMC reacted in near shock.
He thought surely that would be the very first question asked.
Currently, there is no comparing GMC and Suh. GMC is better. First, consider Suh is playing on a defensive line that is significantly better than the Bucs’. Second, just look at the numbers, and GMC is in a different category than Suh.
This season, GMC is second overall for defensive tackles in sacks with 8.5. Marcell Darius leads with 10. Suh is not in the top five.
In the past three seasons, 2012-2014, GMC has 23 sacks, tied with Darius for most sacks by a defensive tackle. Suh is not among the top five.
So any reasoned, sober person can see, GMC is a better defensive tackle than Suh.
So many Bucs fans — and for so long — wanted to drag former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik through the streets for drafting GMC. What say you now?

Not only is GMC a better tackle, he is a better person on the field. I don’t know Suh actions off the field so I can’t say about that.

Even a blind pig….Mark Dominick had a terrible draft history….McCoy was a bright spot. I think most liked the draft choice but were discouraged with McCoy’s early injuries.
Here is Dominick’s resume for rounds 1-3:
2009 Freeman, Miller
2010 McCoy, Price, Benn, Lewis
2011 Clayborn, Bowers, Foster
2012 Barron, Martin , David
2013 Revis, Banks, Glennon
And, I believe Luke Stocker is the only pick 4-7 that is still with the team. 7 out of a possible 35…..not good…

Not saying I disagree but sacks are not the sole indicator…

Suh was gone when we drafted. Save for trading up one spot, he didn’t have much choice

what is lost is that mark dominick was picking ahead of most other teams. I think the number was number 8 average where he selected over the 5 drafts. that means he was selecting ahead of 22 other teams!!!

the only thing I didn’t like that GMC did was hug and cry on the NFL commissioner roger goodell’s shoulder on stage when drafted at Madison square garden. Ndamukong Suh didn’t smile just shook goodell’s hand. GMC has proven to be a great player since that show of weakness he displayed on draft day I have since overlooked it. LOL… also, suh has done some vicious things to other players such as stomping on them when they are down.

Strong work dom biting on the 3rd pick in the draft In the deepest class in 20’years. He usually nailed 1’pick every 3 years. I would worry about my credibility if i backed him(dom) if I was in the media.

Wow JOE. It seems like your life mission to prove that Dominik was some genius because he drafted a guy that everyone in the free world knew we were drafting. Our team sucks so bad now because he was awful at drafting. It only got better when Schiano arrived. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut….you know the rest..

Anyone else notice how much Dom’s drafts improved once Schiano took over? I think Dom was a good GM when it came to convincing free agents to play here, but other than that he clearly came from the Bruce Allen school of drafting.

Having more sacks is not the sole indicator of McCoy being better than Suh…even though he is.

It was one of the few things Dominik did right.

I’ve been reading this blog for years but when i read stuff like that last paragraph it makes me seriously question why. A laughing stock of a GM that absolutely destroyed this franchise being defended in anyway is insane.
GMC is better than Suh which was the point, its not like your “Rockstar” chose GMC over Suh. Enjoy the blog most of the time, but man just let Dom go.

So what you’re saying is that Marcel Darius is the best 3tech in the league? How much is Darius making now adays? 15mil a year im sure.
As you know Joe, Lovie is always talking about having to beat/play better than the other teams unit to a man. So essentially tom (in Lovies eyes) it’s 1 on 1 McCoy vs Suh.
Suh has the advantage bc of our oline but let’s see if mccoy outproduces Suh. I’m positive he will as is everyone else here. To make it more interesting let’s say if mccoy makes a play in the 4th he automatically win the match up. Even a half a tackle just to keep it fair. Lol.
