Josh McCown seems like one hell of a guy.
Miserable starting quarterback, yes, but an A+ person.
Consider what he did on Thanksgiving.
McCown, who had his immediate family — wife and kids — visiting him in Tampa for the holiday, packed up the family and took a bunch of Thanksgiving food over to a family living near the old Tampa Greyhound Track off I-275. McCown hung out with the presumably needy family for a couple of hours, and then headed back to his place to continue the Thanksgiving festivities.
McCown told this very cool story last night on Total Access on the Buccaneers Radio Network.
Clearly, McCown was uncomfortable sharing much detail and wasn’t interested in patting himself on the back. He casually mentioned it when host T.J. Rives asked him how his Thanksgiving was. Rives pressed him for details but McCown didn’t offer much.
McCown implied the family he visited was referred to him, and he said the experience was a blessing for his entire family.
During previous episodes of McCown’s weekly radio show, McCown explained that he lives like a bachelor during the season eating fast food and working constantly. So having his four kids and wife in from North Carolina for a rare day off was something special — but he chose to share his time and good fortune.
So how could Joe not share such a great story from a class act of a man.

I think it’s great! Not all people help out just because they have money! The Bucs players are very active in the community and I am proud of that.

Kudos to McCown for his civic action. I know that area well, growing up just a mile north of there. It was known as Sulpher Springs back then, still could be.

Class act. Great guy to have on your team if he is not starting. I think he will be a great coach sooner than later.
Tom Edrington – Success is not a crime. Just because you are wealthy or are doing well for yourself does not OBLIGATE one to be generous. McCown made a choice to do a nice gesture but by no means is he obligated to do those things because of his paycheck size.

That’s all fine and good but what does that have to do with the fact that he has no business acting like the QB of a pro football team, especially mine. He is much better at charity and spreading the good word than he is at throwing touchdowns. I don’t give a shit about any of this as long as he is lining up behind center for the Bucs.

Even though football is just a game, it is still a big stage where players are role models. Josh McCown is a genuine positive role model. You don’t have to be the best at what you do to make a difference in other people’s lives.
I’m very proud of the Bucs community service….it takes some of the sting out of losing.

If you start pulling in $5 million/yr your wife will probably let you move wherever you want, as long as $4 million or so stays in her account. LOL!

My cousin (former Bucs LS) brought presents to underprivileged kids one Christmas.
Here’s the kicker people. The Bucs made him do it. It made him look like a hero, but he never paid for a damn present for any of them.
I repeat the Bucs MADE him do it.

I met McCown’s parents @ a Bucs game in Dallas a few years back when Luke was with the Bucs. There are very nice, intelligent people, and I’m sure they raised their boys to be the same way. Good job, Josh – and shame on any asshats that try to run you down for it.

get another big corner to play on the left and move verner to the slot then move or trade foster and get another big MLB that can cover in FA or draft. Grab chris conte this off-season from the bears in FA and draft another tall FS in the draft with speed. move EDS over to right guard, replace collins with pamphile at left tackle, and try collins at center or left guard. Draft the biggest o-lineman in the draft and fire warhop. Get a DE in the draft and FA then get a QB in FA and draft a QB who runs to set up the pass not vice versa like mariota. I agree with another poster on here that suggest the Bucs trade back for more picks but only if the deal is right. I think that Winston could be had later in the draft because of off field drama. Could probably get Winston and o-lineman or defensive end in the 1st round.

Man, some of you guys are taking this season a little too personally. Go ask a mom or a dad that cant feed their own kids if they care about how McCown or the rest of the team is playing. A story like this really puts things in perspective.
Im a 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week foster parent to two awesome kids that were pulled out of terrible situations. And I can tell you first hand that when someone is being abused or neglected, or starving that they dont give a big fat fuch about how mad others can get over a crappy football game

Is it just me or do I feel like these Total Access shows have become serious “yawners”?
Now maybe it’s because back when I recall enjoying these shows we were winning, the players actually took pride in their play and we’re enjoyable to watch and listen to, and all the ‘circle jerping’ was happy and fun –> I still remember sitting in front of the Keyshawn Johnson show in the middle of the Westshore mall food court.
But all the inflated positivity and tap-dancing around the facts makes me feel like I’m listening to the NFL Disney channel. Has it always been structured this way or does TJ and whoever else promise to remain uplifting?

beats the heck out of most of the other off-the-field NFL stories we’ve seen this year. every now and then it’s nice to hear about a player doing things worth applauding when he takes off the pads

@Mike10, i hear you. frankly it’s embarrassing to have to listen to your players every night on the radio having to address (or ignore) the fact that they can only win one game for every 3 to 5 that they play. that’s the situation these guys have been doing their shows in for the majority of the 12 years since our superbowl win.

He is a real decent human being. The area of Tampa he visited is right by Waters and Nebraska, not too far from the Sulphur Springs Tower and not exactly the nicest spot in the world anymore especially after all the businesses left on Nebraska and Florida like the Floriland Mall and used to be shown almost weekly on that Fox show “COPS”. I wonder how he met the family: through his church or the United Way??? Would make a nice piece for one of the media outlets to carry Joe. When I went to King and the USF way back in the early to mid ’80s I worked at Busch Gardens and used to drive a coworker home who lived on one of those streets that were cut inhalf/dead-ended when I-275 (then 75) went parallel to Florida/Nebraska and really started the urban decay; it was getting ugly then through the ’80s and now I couldn’t imagine having to raise a family off of Nebraska; glad that Josh helped out someone who truly needed it….. Times change but there are always people in need….. Perhaps the good karma can help Josh play some inspired ball down the stretch and get the team a W or 2; his teammates have to know that they are playing for their future to avoid ending up in places like Nebraska between Fowler and Waters where rent is paid by the day or week….

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Like you know what else, everyone has one. Sometimes I am absolutely convinced that the majority of you so-called “Bucs fans” are in actuality miserable trolls who are bored with life, and are trying to force your misery on the rest of us. You think this team is terrible? Hard to watch? Offensive line sucks? You haven’t a clue. We went 0 – 26 to start as a franchise. 0 – 26. Wrap your minds around that. You think our O-Line is bad now? In 10 games of a 14 game season in 1977, we scored 7 points or less, 6 of those were shutout losses. We couldn’t run, our QBs couldn’t stay upright, it was beyond bad. Our fans were very vocal about our team’s poor performances, but they stood behind our coach John McKay. They gave him time to build the team. It’s not even the end of season 1 with Lovie Smith and you want him gone already? Everyone talks about comparing this season to 1996. In my opinion (yeah, I have one too), this season more closely resembles 1977. An improving defense, an inept offense handled by an inexperienced OC. I could go on and on. Our team history shows we’ll get better with the team getting the time needed for experience and growth.
Complain and gripe all you want, it’s ok. But let’s be realistic as well. You think we have it bad now? Believe me, it’s has been a heck of a lot worse.
