Evans Vows To Help Bail Out Defense

In the past three weeks, the Tampa Bay defense has given up just under 14 points a game. In Joe’s eyes, any time you can limit an NFL team to 14 points or less, you should win those games.
The Bucs are not winning the games.
That’s because of the offense, not the defense ,which was much-maligned earlier in the season and for good reason. Now, the defense is once again the pride of the Bucs.
This is beginning to be noticed by offensive players. Earlier this week, arguably the top Bucs player on offense, rookie receiver Mike Evans, discussed the disparity between the offense and the defense.
“We’ve got to do better [on offense], I know that,” Evans said. “Our defense played great, especially the past few games. They’ve been playing great and we haven’t been helping them much. We’ve got to get that going. Our defense is stronger than our team right now. We’ve got to help them.”
Evans isn’t the only offensive player who seems the gap between the output of the offense and the defense. Running back Bobby Rainey told WFLA-TV Channel 8 after Sunday’s game that the offense needed to start living up to their end of the bargain. Josh McCown talked about it last night on the Buccaneers Radio Network.
If the offense could have gotten one extra touchdown in four of the past six games, the Bucs’ record would be far different than the current one that has local authorities increasing their reconnaissance of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

Evans isn’t the problem. I appreciate him trying to be part of the solution, but he can’t throw the ball to himself, he can’t block for the QB.
Well, actually, he probably does block better than our line.

The offense’s job is to score points, as many as possible. Lovie doesn’t seem to understand that. Lovie’s strategy for the offense is don’t let the offense do much because “only bad things happen” when you let the offense try to score. If Lovie would let the offense be as aggressive as he wants the defense to be, they would score some points. Lovie knows defense, he doesn’t know offense, he needs to leave to offense alone.

Evans easily could of been the solution last week problem was that when he made a play on a ball it was a ball mccown couldn’t keep it ln bounds

Im tired of McCown sobbing about losing. Sack up and play a more complete game. Im sorry if the burden of all those millions is too much for you. But, your team and these fans are suffering largely because of your play.

Well he’s not totally wrong when it comes to this offense. With McCown and this O-line, disaster is only one play away.

OLine is the problem plain and simple. McCown would be a decent QB if he had a running game and enough time to get through his progressions. Our backs are fine and our starting receivers are well above average. As soon as the OLine is fixed and playing consistently decent – you will see a competitive team week in and week out.

The defense has been playing better, but they need to be a little better at stopping third down conversions. In doing so, they play less snaps, get the offense back on the field, and conserve their energy, for late in the game when needed most.

It’s awesome that they chose not to play well, and can just choose to do better.

That’s wishful thinking buddy. Hate to break it to you but Lovie’s o-lines always sucked with the Bears. So far after he ripped our old line apart, the line has gotten worse. I really don’t see it getting much better along that o-line.

Mike Evans is sorry he’s gonna have to keep catching Josh McCown passes next year. I can’t really blame him though.

I’m with you on this statement, but with saying this how will we get better? Won’t happen this year, so that means we will not draft a QB with our high 1st pick. We will, IMO, trade our pick to gain extras and then draft O-line in the first and 2nd rounds then go defense the rest of the way. Maybe a Qb in the 3rd, but I doubt it because McCown is Lovie’s boy and if Lovie thinks a better O-line will make him better he’ll do that. Now who is coming out as a QB in 2016 is the question if we don’t take one in this draft. Maybe Winston if he stays another year, which I hope he does to mature.

No offense to Mike Evans… he’s had a great year. And I hope it continues.
But until I see him do this in year 2, the jury is still out on him for me.
I hope he continues to get better. I think he could be a Warren Sapp type personality on this team going forward.

I appreciate the mindset. And I want to keep it for all of those players. But if it looks like we’re about to win, I better see 12 men on the field. Winning games right now would be inexcusable.

Don’t go start winning games NOW and screw up our draft position.
