Lovie’s Confidence Rating Dips To 50%

Sunday’s meltdown in Chicago did little to erode fans’ confidence in Lovie Smith.
Perhaps it’s the recurring signs of defensive improvement?
After stabilizing with a confidence rating of 32 percent for two consecutive weeks, readers elevated their opinion of Lovie to a 59 percent confidence rating last week. This week, he checked in at 50 percent.
Polling data of JoeBucsFan.com readers yesterday saw a shift in various opinion analytics on the head coach.
Totally confident: 5.5 percent
Very confident: 8.8 percent
Confident: 35.7 percent
Little confidence: 31.6 percent
No confidence: 18.5 percent
The most significant change from last week was in the “no confident” category, nearly doubling from 9.6 percent.
Joe thinks this shows Bucs fans are being pretty darn patient with Lovie. Not a lot of first-year NFL head coaches could go 2-9 in the way the Bucs have, yet still have half the fans in their corner.

We have all seen what has happened this year so far. Mistakes have been made no doubt by Lovie. How he corrects those mistakes after the season will determine the confidence level.

Goes to show that Bucs fans are even bigger idiots than LovieDovie. The pro football scene in Tampa has become so depressing. Looks like this fan will not make it to a Bucs game for the first time in over 10 years.

I’ve voted “cofident” for Lovie on each and every pole.
We have NO CHOICE, but to feel that way.
Despite our mass failures, and mai ntaining our “laughingstock” status, we are married to Lovie for at least the next two seasons after this one.
It is what it is, and it is as “simple as that”.
We stink, but we have no choice in the matter.
IMHO, Schiano should’ve gotten a 3rd year. it COULD NOT HAVE BEEN WORSE than this showing.

All you have to do is look at our draft history over the last few years to understand why this team is so bad right now. (Thanks Dom!).
Couple that with 3 complete coaching staff turnovers in the last 5 years and its not too hard to understand why Lovie’s team is struggling this year. You can’t polish up such a turd to look like a contender in less than 1 year. I guess its possible – but very unlikely. Especially when your offensive coordinator bails out just before the season starts.
I think this year’s draft was the best we’ve had in a long time. That coupled with the obvious improvement of the defense since the bye 5 weeks ago shows signs that we are headed in the right direction – even if it is hard to see the improvements in the win/loss record.
Lovie is not going anywhere for at least 2 more years – so we might as well just support his efforts for now because calling for his firing is just a waste of breath.
Unlike Schiano – Lovie Smith has a track record of success in the NFL. That fact alone should instill some level of confidence or at least hope that he will be able to get this pirate shipped turned around and heading back towards “relevance” after the last 6 years of futility.
The biggest mistake and likely what pisses Bucs fans off the most this year was pushing the “Win Now” mantra before the season. But my belief is that the Glazers were responsible for pushing that idea during the off season and L&L went along because the bosses said to – despite knowing this team needed a lot more talent in place to truly be competitive.
As long as the focus moving forward is to build through the draft – and they continue to draft well – I think L&L will be fielding a competitive team that will be built to last within the next 1-2 years. Fingers crossed….

NFL = Not For Long as in what has Lovie accomplished recently? Schiano hit 7-9 in year one, Lovie will have to win out to match that accomplishment (and Lovie inherited two players of pro bowl caliber on defense vs. none for Schiano…remember many were labeling McCoy a bust before Schiano coached him in better tackling technique…a fact I love reminding the Schiano haters because it pisses them off, but as the saying goes look back in the JBF archives and read McCoy’s own admission that Schiano made him a better tackler). Heck I’m not even sure if Lovie will match Raheem’s year one win total. How any of you can be totally confident in this guy is beyond belief!? All I can figure is it’s guys just trying to stir the pot, any sane person would at least have some doubt about a HC that is 2-9 and made the team worse in most areas than it was the previous year under a HC most wanted fired

The best case scenario for us with Lovie as coach is a replication of Chicago, which means missing the playoffs twice as much as making it. No offense, and while that’s clearly way better than what we have now, that’s still the very definition of mediocre.
We blew it not getting Chip Kelly, that was never more painfully obvious than yesterday. Could be a while to get over that miss, it was a huge miss for this franchise that led us down the Schiano/Lovie path.

Lovie’s defense won’t work until we can rush and pressure the QB with our front four… Our defensive ends are bad… We need to continue looking but we are stuck with M. Johnson because of the guaranteed money left on his deal…
This offense won’t work without an offensive line… We have probably the worst line in the league… We need to draft a few and find a few more lineman in free agency… It doesn’t matter who the QB or the running backs are… Defensive lines are coming through unchallenged all game long…
We need a franchise QB… I’m not a big fan of either Mariotta or Winston… Will there be anyone better than Josh McCown available? Could we work a trade for RGIII, Eli Manning or Jay Cutler? Or maybe make a deal with Cleveland for J. Manzel? Do we really want any of those guys? I doubt we find this answer any time soon…
Our punter is the worst in NFL history and our kicker is an average journeyman at best…
This team has major holes in its roster… I have little confidence in the free agent market after the many failures we have seen from this regime and the last…
Lucky for us we have a solid cap situation and we should be picking in the top five this draft… I think Lovie will get at least three seasons regardless of what happens this year or next… However, I have little confidence that this team will be anything better then 6-10 team under Lovie Smith…

Why would they be afraid to put up the Winston poll? They clearly don’t want to, yet. Just like everything else on their site, they will do it if and when they please.
I don’t think it’s reasonable to poll our confidence in Lovie every single week. The only thing being proven is that Bucs fans have no convictions and will flip flop with the wind. I’ve also noticed that just like radio show callers, most commenters just want to hate. Those who have confidence are less likely to call, or in this case leave a comment, but are still voting (and listening). I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been dealing with it my whole life but I’ve always felt we have the least intelligent fan group in the NFL as far as football knowledge goes. Except maybe the Saints’ fans, but that spills over to their literacy levels and toddler aged speaking abilities.
Also keep in mind these polls do not represent total confidence in Lovie. They represent this here corner of the interweb. As popular as this site is, I know several fans who’ve never visited.

WTF does any poll prove? I’m more confident in Smith now than I was after the Atlanta game, and more so than after the Ravens game. I’ve actually gained confidence throughout the season, confidence that the Bucs are a few offensive pieces to be a contender and confidence that the D has turned the corner.
