McCoy Quietly Marches To Double Digits

November 24th, 2014

gerald mccoy 0916Now is the time of year when fans of sorry losing teams must find silver linings and nuggets to help them sleep at night.

Gerald McCoy has 7 1/2 sacks.

But that impressive total through 9 1/2 games played by McCoy gets lost in the flush of a 2-9 record. Rightfully so.

Joe, however, is here to soothe fans and provide peace.

McCoy is having his third consecutive excellent season. Last year, he just missed the 10-sack mark, finishing with 9 1/2. Man, McCoy sure wanted those double digits.

Joe suspects McCoy won’t talk about individual numbers in light of his team’s performance this season. But Joe’s sure McCoy wants to hit the mark.

With five games to go, he should get it. Joe’s pulling hard for him. Get it all done on Sunday, Gerald.

Joe just hopes McCoy’s career doesn’t go the way of Paul Gruber, working like a champ for a lasting pretender.

What could this guy do if we didn’t line up a bunch of chumps next to him? Hopefully we get to find out someday.

  2. Ray Rice Says:

Hope he does get it all done on Sunday. That would most likely mean he made impact plays through 4qtrs not just in the 1st qtr then disappearing the rest of the game like he normally does. And please stop with the double and triple teams. That’s false. He doesn’t get double and triple teamed all game. He’s the highest paid player for a reason. We need more out of him. Sorry.

  3. DB55 Says:

So you’re saying he’ll line up against at least three more back ups. #hof

  4. Bigbucs1 Says:

So many McCoy haters- sacks aren’t everything, check pressure and QB rushes. McCoy can’t play corner or safety or DE- if we didn’t have as many chumps on that line he would’ve double digits by now- he is the highest graded DT/lineman by PPF along with JJ Watt.

Don’t talk about “Pressures” and “QB hurries” Bigbucs1. Most of these guys can’t see that far into a DLman’s job. Sacks is the measurable for simpletons

  6. Tom Edrington Says:

Gerald will be facing retirement before the Humpty Dumpty known as the Buccaneers is ever put back together again….

  7. Brandon Says:

If you guys hate the team so much, jump ship. Nobody will care. This defense has turned the corner and has played well the last several outings.

  8. SteveK Says:

    Brandon,

    We are not jumping ship.

Why doesn’t Glennon start? He takes better care of the ball. McCown helped give the Bears 21 points in the 3rd quarter.

The D is improving, but not there yet.

Michael Johnson is stealing from us!!! Production please!

I am very pleased with our new DE from Buffalo, J. Smith.

  9. Major Says:

You’re mancrush Michael Bennett only has 4 sacks, 1 more than Michael Johnson to this point. I think if Clayborn had stayed healthy he would have had more than that.

  10. Lovie's Basement Says:

Michael Johnson could also hit 10. The season starts week 13.

  11. White Tiger Says:

The defense is coming around – not there yet – but they’re d-line, LB’s and secondary are learning to trust the system…just not all at the same time, nor consistently. An edge rush is the one glaring weakness. Johnson has looked lost, then has had games where it looked like the light was coming on – ultimately, he’s playing out of position. I think we all know where the focus for the 2015 1st round pick will be…

Offense – what can be said – starts with the line on both sides of the ball. Defensive Line is lightyears ahead of the o-line…Not sure if Arroyo should survive, not sure if it matters what any fans think about the OC….

Would just love to see this guy take control of a game… just 1 game! I don’t know if we’ve seen that yet in his career.
