Sloppiness And Ball Security Blues

November 23rd, 2014

Joe’s still cleaning up the vomit after seeing Josh McCown sprint five yards backwards with the ball exposed only to have it smacked out of his hands for a critical Bucs turnover deep in Tampa Bay territory today.

Greg Schiano constantly preached to players that “the ball was the program.”

In 2012, not one Buccaneer caught a pass and fumbled it. Hands were incredibly sure, and ball security was everything, quarterbacks included.

C’mon. The Bucs’ ball security — not just McCown — was better under Schiano.

Lovie Smith’s team is sloppy. McCown simply has been terrible at ball security in his six starts, from taking chances to fumbles and more.

Vincent Jackson fumbled away a ball in the red zone today. Louis Murphy can’t squeeze a ball in the end zone. Receivers didn’t make plays and McCown’s poorly thrown balls didn’t help.

This Bucs team is sloppy.

And what about all those penalties at the worst time? Will Gholston cranked out another free set of downs and 15 yards with a fourth-down penalty, like he did in Cleveland. There were more issues on the O-line, as well as a delay of game call that just can’t happen late in a game.

There’s just so much to fix.

Back to the future….clean house…Lovie =McCown….both have reached their professional peak…and their pasts are no different than their futures in the NFL…

They were better at this point last year. Team has taken a big step back overall. Incredibly disappointing.

  5. tgregs Says:

So glad we fired Schiano for this moron

  6. tgregs Says:

    Please replay Lovie’s condescending “we were a 4-12 team”clip

  9. Mike10 Says:

Again, no leadership, including from the guy getting paid to a leader.

Joe, you need to write about how pathetic our personnel is on the offensive line, without the Bear’s best D lineman playing.

  10. Hellhammer Says:

Lovie makes me sick regardless whether you judge on the piss poor talent evaluation or the terrible coaching I was never a big Lovie fan, maybe a coordinator but not a head coach.

Joe, The bull $hit call on vjax that he fumbled was Bull#hit the referee’s suck $ss and even the reply @ssholes in New York suck. His arm was down and then the ball came out Damm Damm Damm bad call……. that is the play that put me over and what’s up with lovie?????? 1st half great…. 2nd half they got on the plan and came home… what’s up with that. i have been a fan since 1979 and watch all games win or lose but, today what the $uck. sorry Joe but this fan is be on pissed….

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

Who put the stupid fire Schiano billboard up anyway? They should be horse whipped. Schiano would have more wins clearly. I have no doubts. This hire is multiple steps backwards.

  13. Gus Says:

I disagree about Lovie. 10-0 and the defense played overall a pretty damn good game. In the second half, 3-0 bad punt, ball on the 50. Next possession ball fumble ball on the 13. Next possession interception ball on the 25. I don’t care what defense you have, you lose that game. And seeing that the final score was 21-13. McCown is solely responsible for this loss in my opinion.

  14. Hellhammer Says:

Changing ownership is a pipe dream but maybe not moving the Bucs to London.

….we can all thank the medias…for not giving Schiano the same “space” as they have givebn Lovie…but hey!…they write the storie-shape perceptions….of the simple minded

  16. Hellhammer Says:

    @ Gus
Flush out your head gear McLovie is the head coach responsible for offense and defense.

  17. King Diamond Says:

    Just piss poor mediocre BS

  18. mark2001 Says:

Bucc…exactly why I was despondent when Lovie was hired….saw his coaching in Chicago and knew this would happen….no fire…stay the course to mediocrity at best. The Glazer boys are fools, when it comes to football.

  19. jyraun Says:

@gus… the coaches left him in. that’s what we have had in the bucs organization from the top to the bottom from the owners all the way down 2 assistant coaches…. don’t you love it?

  20. RastaMon Says:

Boy..this RB Sims…sure makes a difference behind L&L’s HAND PICKED FREE AGENT OFFENSIVE LINE…….phony front office

Recent poll= 69% confident in Lovie We Trust

  22. Tom Edrington Says:

Unfortunately they don’t get to play the Redskins six times. Go back and read all the comments after the last win.

Besides, the Bucs are only a few games out of first place in the division!!

    Yeah, that’s the ticket!

  23. J mone Says:

I am sad pissed off at the bucs losing a game we had a good chance to win, but I think we need to draft a franchise QB

  24. Espo Says:

Not that it matters, but VJax didn’t fumble

  25. mark2001 Says:

JJV…69%? Fools are born every minute.

  27. The Ether Says:

    2-9…

Lets get that FRANCHISE QB, Mariota/Winston… Stack the O-Line & D-Line with NEW BLOOD…

Fire Leslie… Let Lovie takeover as DC… In the meantime… Let Licht takeover the F.O.

    GO JETS!!!

  28. The Ether Says:

O-Line deserves to be whooped by Adrian Peterson… Sheeeit…

  29. JJV Says:

It has been said, Lovie needs time. He gets a mulligan this year because he lost his offensive coach, injuries, new system, new players, etc. I guess other first year coaches didn’t get that memo that took over this year. In Lovie We Trust.

  30. TiredofLoviesBS Says:

    @ Joe-

One huge issue with Lovie is the excuse that it will take time to implement his system, players, etc.

People forget that Lovie was this seasons Andy Reid (most sought after coach, had his pick of teams). He chose the Bucs over 9 or 10 other vacancies because he evaluated their roster and deemed them a couple pieces away, just like Andy Reid did with the Chiefs. Except Lovie cannot evaluate talent- he clearly thought he was getting a far better team than he was- and he had a year to make his tactical career decision. He is inept. Fire this guy, pay 3 coaches at once, and admit you are second only to Al Davis’ heirs Yucs! I hate my own team!!!!!!!!

  31. mdsbuc Says:

I’m not a big fan of using a revolving door for coaches, but so many poor decisions by Lovie, especially as pertain to his personnel decisions, makes me believe he’s got to go. In all three categories of the game, and in his personnel decisions, Schiano was a far better coach.

  32. FormerBucFan Says:

Hellhammer has a good thought process going. Send this damn bunch to London. I just want to start over even if we have to wait a few years for another team.

  33. SteveK Says:

    The Ether,

Sheeeit, you mean the same O-Line that was given a pass when Glennon was in there?

    _____________________

I mean the same ‘o-line’ that you and your long neck fantasizing, circle jerking to a Mike Glennon effigy mob used to blame when ‘The Neck’ had a bad day.

But at this point, its all about Mariota/Winston! And wether we can get a 6th or a 7th for Glennon… GO JETS!

  35. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

To think if this coaching staff could achieve the same ball security as “an ex-Rutgers not fit for the NFL” coach the Bucs might actually be in first place in the miserable NFC South. Hope all the Fire Schiano bollboard crowd who helped convince the Glazers that season ticket sales would plummet if Schiano returned for year 3 are damn proud of themselves, the Lovie Smith era of ineptitude is your reward.

  36. buc4lyfe Says:

Why would Joe tolerate your insults and allow them here? And how could you possibly think, after so much time here, that Joe would be unbiased. Joe has written with strong opinions since Day 1. –Joe
