Fundamentals Cost Bucs A Touchdown
November 23rd, 2014Though it didn’t matter in the long run, a whiff of fundamentals by Major Wright, who otherwise played fine football today, proved to be a major error in the Loss to the Bears at gloomy, rainy Soldier Field today.
It was the Bears’ first possession of the second half with the Bucs leading 10-0. Chicago marched down to the Bucs-3. There, the Bucs defense stiffened, forcing a 3rd-and-2.
If the Bucs force a field goal, that’s almost a win. But no. Bears WR Alshon Jeffery stood just inside the goal line with Wright defending him from behind, as if he expected Jeffery to turn and run a post pattern.
It is fundamental football for defensive backs: In the red zone, you play in front of the receiver, not behind. Bratty Jay Cutler had an all too easy toss to put a touchdown on the board.
Had Wright played Jeffery correctly, it may have been three instead of seven, and a much more manageable hurdle to overcome in the fourth quarter.

Bears had 204 total yards…….

Hey Schiano didn’t have this bad of record even with a rookie QB and Te and running back. Just saying to all the Glennon , Schiano haters. Lol!! Sometimes you get what you asked for. 2-9 wow!!

An embarrassing loss. The Bucs came out flat after halftime, like somebody let all the air out of their wheels. Then the wheels fell off. Lovie will spin this loss as getting better.

The Bears get their validation for firing Lovie and the Bucs prove they haven’t really improved like the Redskins game may have led people to believe… 2-14 at the end of the season and no realistic upside keeping this same coach…. Worst season for Bucs in year….

Wow JOE.. That’s a stretch blaming 1 play on the entire game. Why were the Bears offense even where they were? The offense and McCown sucked today..He in my opinion single handling lost this game. He held the ball way too long on many occasions. Didn’t thorow the ball away enough, should have ran more, and was off target most of the game..

All the horrible play and coaching in this game and this, to you Joe, deserves it’s own article? Hmmm.

Hey, they won one-in-a-row. Why is everyone complaining?

Actually it was McCown’s three turnovers that left the defense defending a quarter of the field. I’d say the D played well enough to expect a win from the offense I’m sure they were getting frustrated that they couldn’t put their helmets down long enough to take even a sip of water.

That entire drive was atrocious.
The defense played decent for 3 quarters, but let the game go in the 3rd.
However, our offense lost us this game. Plain and simple.
The o-line should be f**cking embarrassed at their poor play and non-stop drive/game killing penalties.
McClown had WRs open all day, but continued to be indecisive and take way too long, resulting in sacks and INTs and killing drives. We SHOULD have crushed Chicago today.

Didn’t write that, but you telling Joe it didn’t contribute?

The offense lost us this game.

Don’t know about that joe, looked to me there was a receiver running along the back of the end one and he was stuck on who to cover. Think that was on the outside backer

McCown was the reason we lost today. Although I still think he is better than Glennon, McCown was beyond inaccurate today. Not sure if it was the rain or what but he looked awful. He missed finding wide open guys and then was off target when he did throw it to someone.
