Bears Fans And Lovie

To hear from some, Bears fans mourn the day Bears general manager Phil Emery jettisoned Lovie Smith after a 10-win, 2012 season. The Bears haven’t been the same since and appear to be on the verge of a meltdown under Marc Trestman.
However, a CSN Chicago panel of David Kaplan, Rick Telander and Hub Arkush seem to disagree. They’re not impressed with Lovie, and they don’t believe fans have special feelings for him.
Lovie is the third-winningest coach in the storied history of the franchise.
George Halas is a saintly figure in Chicago. Ditka is beloved.

Most fans in general are egg heads. Hell there are still those who insult Gruden and think he was trash as a coach. They only coach we’ve ever had that led us to the Super Bowl victory or even an appearance.

The further the Bears get from winning seasons the more they’ll wish for Lovie and his boring ways. Hell, I missed Chucky before the end of the first preseason without him. Worst mistake this franchise ever made.

See it’s not that firing Gruden was a bad idea per se, it was hiring the incompetent people after him that’s the problem. Yes we’d all take Gruden back in a heartbeat now, but that’s very relative. If we took him back and went back to going 6 seasons without a playoff win like it was under Jon, would anyone still want him at the end of those 6 years?
It’s the same here for Lovie. The Bears missed the playoffs 5 of their last 6 years and the only win they had came against the 8-9 Seahawks. At at certain point you just can’t take the mediocrity anymore. If it gets worse afterwards, its because the team did a bad job finding a replacement.

Firing Gruden wasn’t a great idea, stripping his power over personnel and hiring a real GM with real clout while keeping Gruden should’ve been the way to go…even if he refused, which he shouldn’t have, they were paying a ton and had a lot of years left on his deal. Bruce Allen was the biggest culprit, that and allowing Gruden to sign every rickety old retread available.

Have to agree with you about Allen. Personnel wise he was a disaster and Gruden admits he wasn’tthe saltiest chip in the bag when it came to player selections in the draft.
When asker about the current Packers QB, he said he passed on him because he thought, “he held the ball to high before releasing it.”
Add Morris and Dummynick to the mix and then Sciano and Dummynick again, the common denominator of course being Dummynick, and it isn’t hard to understand the Bucs current plight.

I was happy after Gruden got fired. The thought of change was intriguing. But boy did I take having him as our coach for granted. Raheem was in over his head and Schiano was a jerk who just didn’t get it. Rex Ryan took him to school for goodness sake. We had a world class coach and we fired him and replaced him a man who was our defensive backs coach a little over a month prior. Wow.
Unlike Raheem and Schiano, Lovie has been there before and has seen so much in this league. He’s a huge upgrade to the prior two coaches who ruined this team.

I sincerely hope Tampa beats Chicago on Sunday, and will enjoy the sheer panic it will send through the Chicago Bears.
I think a loss to us will just about dash any playoff hopes they have, especially with Green Bay and Detroit doing so well.
If we pressure Cutler the way we did RG 111, we can and will win.
Unless the Redskins game was a fluke, it looks like we are finally coming together, as a team.

I know a lot of people did not like Chuckie but lets face it: the Bucs were a helluva lot more respectable when he was in the organization (even the 4-12 debacle of 2006 was a better team then the Bucs of ’13 & ’14 IMHO) as the team was competative for the most part and found ways to win a lot of the games that the current Bucs now manage to lose. I am in agreement with the posters who say that instead of firing him perhaps the baby Glazers should have got their own man in as GM and took the personnel decisions away from Jonny Boy…. But instead the baby Glazers went ahead and canned Gruden as one of their first big decisions after Malcolm got the stroke and proceeded to go very cheap on the hire of Rah; coinciding with the time period when they were refinancing Man United with bonds and a potential listing in Asian stock markets (ie: the lads had bigger concerns in their portfolio than our Bucs and it showed in the talent the Glazers hired)…. The Glazers followed Rah with a personality diametrically opposed to rah’s (Greg S) which did not work out well and now the Bucs are into regime #3 after Gruden and the team is 2-8…..
On the topic of Bruce Allen; Joe nailed it on the head: the guy would be selling life insurance or used cars if not for his last name…. Your last name can open a lot of doors that should be bolted shut. USF found that out with a coach named Skippy who is currently at Louisiana Tech after setting the Bulls football program back a decade…..

@Brandon agree on gruden, I was tired of him but you don’t fire a good coach coming off back to back 9 win seasons until you have a good replacement in the bag. How the glazers thought inexperienced Raheem Morris could do the job blows my mind. In a way the bucs deserve these last few years. Based on what I’m hearing from bears fans we have an average one now. Though average is better than Morris by a long shot.

Josh needs to show the Bears they were fools to pick Cutler over him. It is pay back time and the same could be said for Lovie. Go Bucs!!!
