Evans Hopes For A Return To “The Zone”
November 20th, 2014You hear athletes talk about it often: “The Zone,” a dreamy area where they seem suspended in time, where they can do no wrong. Mike Evans visited the zone Sunday. The Bucs star rookie wide receiver had 209 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Redskins.
Evans, a former stud high school basketball player who came to football later than most, said he felt like a modern version of Steve Alford last Sunday, a guy who cannot miss.
“Most receivers, I’m sure they feel [in the zone] when they have a game like that,” Evans said. “It feels like a basketball player: when they get hot, they can’t miss. So it kind of felt something like that.”
And while Evans admits he is still learning the NFL game and getting used to its nuances, that the game is beginning to slow down for him. Then, Evans dropped a huge, cool piece of information. It appears Evans has a lot of camaraderie and chemistry with Bucs quarterback Josh McCown. After Evans was drafted by the Bucs, McCown flew down to Texas to work out with Evans and jump-start his NFL career.
“He established himself to me as a leader already and we have a great chemistry,” Evans said.
Joe thinks that is cool that a veteran like McCown would fly down to College Station and build a bond with the rookie. That truly is a leader.

Hopefully his reputation and Bears game planning will open up things for ASJ and Herron…..

Love the way that this kid catches the ball with all Hands
Will always be a threat if these good traits continue

The Bears will likely have better coverage on Evans than the Redskins did, though he still will be a factor in the game.

I would expect him to draw most of the double teams on Sunday, instead of Jackson. I highly doubt Chicago is going to put a LB on him, but one can dream.

I watched alot of A&M games and I can tell ya that ME is what made JF. There is a reason that he went in the first round, also a reason he is on the bench behind Brian Hoyer

It took a secondary coached by Raheem Morris to further launch Evans…obviously Raheem had no “wolfs” back there…..
Don’t know who coaches Bears secondary but he’s not as bad as Raheem!

I am hoping he has another big game because if our D-line doesn’t duplicate last week’s effort, Marshall, Jeffery, and possibly Bennett will helping some Fantasy teams big time Sunday. Any update on Alt-Verner?

Say what you want about McCown, but his work ethic seems elite. I am not big on Glennon as the QBoTF, but if that is the path we go, Glennon sure does have a great role model to look up to.
