Jameis Watch: Gettin’ “The Boot” Every Week
November 14th, 2014Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, national champion James Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon and Josh McCown.
It’s Joe’s regular nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback to wear No. 5 ever in the state of Florida.
What a gamer this Winston kid is.
Iconic Buccaneers radio voice Gene Deckerhoff also has called FSU games for decades. And Deckerhoff pointed out something worth noting during an appearance on WHBO-AM 1040 yesterday
Winston is playing hurt. Deckerhoff talked about how FSU must try and keep the inevitable University of Miami blitzes away from Winston tomorrow night.
“Jameis can hold his own, but he’s taken a lickin’ the last couple of games. And I’ll tell you what, Louisville was tough on him. Hurt his ankle in that game,” Deckerhoff said. “If fact, they put a little boot on his ankle after every game. And people say, ‘What’s wrong?’ Jameis is a gamer, and he’s healthy and ready to go.”
Deckerhoff went on to say Winston’s statistical dips from last season are a byproduct of inexperience — but not his.
“You want to know the difference in 10 interceptions in an entire season last year and 11 interceptions this year for Jameis Winston? Young wide receivers: Two freshman and a sophomore,” Deckerhoff said.
Joe’s not cutting Winston slack here. Playing hurt is necessary in the NFL, and Joe doesn’t want a soft QB for the Bucs.
November 14th, 2014 at 5:58 pm
If he gets behind the Bucs offensive line he will have to be used to playing hurt… That being said, Jameis to Bucs, but let’s go Canes
November 14th, 2014 at 6:01 pm
FSU owning “Doak South” since 2004.
Jameis also has an injured thumb.

Enjoy these “wins” now because it sounds more and more like the death penalty is ultimately in play for FSU. Nice New York Times story today on giving a FSU player a ticket for hit and run. Must be nice.
November 14th, 2014 at 6:22 pm
Who’s Jameis Winston?
November 14th, 2014 at 6:27 pm
Winston has shown this year much more than last year’s amazing season why the Bucs should be seriously considering drafting him. Playing injured is yet another good sign he is a gamer. The difference in his supporting cast at FSU this year compared to last is staggering. Last year’s Seminole team was loaded with talent and experience – this year’s team has talent but not “top 10 talent” mainly because they are mostly Freshmen and Sophomores.
Of particular note is the struggles on the FSU offensive line. (Sound Familiar?) Winston has been taking a lot of hits as he stands strong and throws mostly accurate balls to his receivers – directly in the face of pressure. He also has enough athletic ability to pull the ball down and run 5-10 yards for a 1st down whenever that becomes necessary.
Jameis Winston has been making enough plays on his own and really has simply been willing his team to win – week in and week out this year. He is undefeated as a QB in almost 2 full years as a starter in College.
We have issues with “supporting cast”. We have major issues with our offensive line. We need a “winner” as our offensive leader in the worst way. Jameis Winston if he was here playing for the Bucs right now (at 20 years old) could have probably won us at least 3 or 4 more games this year compared to Glennon and McCown’s abilities.
Bottom Line – I think we need to go get this kid. Yes he is a kid and yes he has some growing up to do. But his abilities on the football field are unquestionable. If there are no more “incidences” between now and draft day – and especially if FSU goes undefeated again and wins another championship with Winston as their leader – you can bet the farm that he will be a top 5 pick next year – probably top 3 – and rightfully so.
I’m on board Joe. Let’s go all in for Winston and do whatever it takes to get him. He is a gifted Quarterback and more importantly – He is a WINNER! He does what it takes to win and is happy to have that responsibility on his shoulders. I would trade up if needed – but if we keep losing – we won’t have to do much other than write his name down on draft day…
BTW – I believe the best saying for those that hope the Bucs go 1-15 and that Jameis is the payoff is – “Wash Out for Winston”.
November 14th, 2014 at 6:35 pm
Draft him
November 14th, 2014 at 6:46 pm
Joe only writes about Winston because he is out of good material.

Time for the poll…..Joe
November 14th, 2014 at 7:08 pm
Joe, there are 3 home games left? will we hear the Jamis Winston chants?? will the buc fans cheer when the bucs have to punt or turn the ball over? standing ovations once these home games get out of hand and the bucs lose once again???

Miami is gonna kick FSU’s AZZ…
November 14th, 2014 at 8:41 pm
Mariota
November 14th, 2014 at 8:45 pm
FSU by 17…Miami is like 8-7 in last 15. Alls I see are a bunch of haters on FSU….predicting (HOPING!) a Miami upset…Not going to happen in Doak South.
November 14th, 2014 at 8:59 pm
OHHHH….Louisville is beating him up….WTF….just wait til he plays DUKE in the ACC Champ….yea Crabby is playing the “best” competition with a supremely talented team….this dude will be a DISASTER in the NFL.
November 14th, 2014 at 10:53 pm
There’s a reason WHY he was the number one MOST recruited QB coming out of high school. He could have went to ANY conference in the country and dominated.
He’s THAT good.
Thank you Gene Deckerhoff for repeating what I said in yesterdays Jameis Watch.
His stats have dipped because he’s working with young WR’s and making it work.
He might not win a Heisman this season or a national championship, BUT if he stays another season at FSU those goals will be accomplished again in 2015. THAT I will guarantee.
You people don’t need Gene to tell you anything that you can learn from me. I’m the Winston authority on JBF. I’ve wanted this kid since week 3 of LAST season. I never thought it might be possible, but it now is.
I’ve admitted he’s a moron off the field. I’ve also said it never shows up on the field. That to me is outstanding, no matter what everyone tries to say. So much hatred and vitriol thrown his way. How does he respond? He wins.
For those of you that say he reminds you of Freeman. I have this for you.
This kid has ICE in his veins. Nothing bothers him. Nothing. Can you say the same about Freeman? Nope.
I say he DOES grow up once he’s out of the college atmosphere. I also say the team that gets him raises the Lombardi within 3 years. I will stand by that statement too. If he goes to another team, all Buc fans can do is just watch and wonder what could have been. He WILL be a GREAT QB in the NFL.
I know it hasn’t been that long since Luck came out of (Stanford) college, but this kid is the closest thing to him ON THE FIELD since Luck. Stanford wanted Winston BAD! Real bad…. for a reason people. LOTS of colleges wanted him real bad, because he’s THAT good. Stanford does not accept athletically gifted idiots, yet he got accepted to Stanford.
Give this kid a half decent o-line and ANY pro caliber set of WR’s and he’s going to ef up the NFL. Give him studs at WR and look out!
I’ll repeat what Deckerhoff said because it’s true. It’s the same thing I said last night. Last season Jameis had Greene and Kelvin Benjamin. This season he has a bunch of freshman and it’s showing too.
Kids like this only come around so often. Josh Freeman was not one of those kids.
Bottom line for me is this. If the Bucs do draft him you naysayers will VERY quickly see what I was talking about. Same goes if they don’t draft him. Either way, you’ll soon see that I was right. I’d prefer him to be wearing OUR ugly Burger King uniform though while you’re realizing that I was right.
So carry on with your negative opinions. I’ll read them and most likely disagree with you anyways.
November 15th, 2014 at 12:07 am
Winston is a loose cannon and he cannot be trusted off the field, especially with a lot more money and a lot less supervision
November 15th, 2014 at 1:02 am
OH SO HERE IS WHERE I CAN POST MY STATEMENT ABOUT HOW SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT WINSTON’S OFF THE FIELD TROUBLES DON’T SHOW UP ON GAMEDAY ARGUMENT IS STUPID WITHOUT IT BEING DELETED??????????????
November 15th, 2014 at 1:39 am
Cannon Fire has it Spot On!
November 15th, 2014 at 1:53 am
gatrbuc17…you can say the argument is stupid if you actually have one…
Fire away.
Tell us all where it’s showed up on the field…
November 15th, 2014 at 1:54 am
Cannon Fire is pot on wrong. I don’t give a crap what he does in his free time as long as he’s winning games and he will.
November 15th, 2014 at 1:59 am
OH…………..87 you are here
UM it it TOTALLY stupid because at THIS moment JW is fortunate enough to play for a School that lets him play DESPITE his off the field troubles that would get him arrested in the real world.
Argument???
November 15th, 2014 at 2:00 am
“I dont give a crap what he does in his free time”
ARE YOU A FREAKIN IDIOT??????????????
Try STEALING in the real world when you arent a college football hero

dafuq is going on around this place?
HEY JOEs get on a Livefyre forum and this place would go viral. But then again that would make too much sense wouldn’t it?
November 15th, 2014 at 2:17 am
Where did you go 87????????
November 15th, 2014 at 2:19 am
@gatrbuc17…All of that is irrelevant to how well he plays despite all the troubles he’s had. So there really is no argument about real world this and that. Most players would struggle on the field with so much off the field problems. Even IF he thought he had nothing to worry about because it would all get swept under the rug, he would still feel the pressure of it all.
November 15th, 2014 at 2:22 am
Despite the “comments awaiting Moderation” You have no leg to stand on 87 and you know it. I dont give a phuk what this kid can do ON THE FIELD
I care about how what he does OFF THE FIELD doesnt let him play ON THE FIELD for MY TEAM

“Enjoy these “wins” now because it sounds more and more like the death penalty is ultimately in play for FSU. Nice New York Times story today on giving a FSU player a ticket for hit and run. Must be nice.”
Nice smear tactic making people think that some player hit somebody and took off and only got a ticket for it. That’s NOT how it went down at all.
Here’s the REAL truth.
He struck a car for one thing, not a person. So here’s the details.
Williams, who was with fellow FSU cornerback Ronald Darby and another passenger, then left the scene and returned 20 minutes later while the investigation was still ongoing, the report said.
A TPD officer wrote in the report that Williams was not issued a citation for hit and run because he returned to the scene without being contacted by TPD. The officer noted there was no suspected alcohol use.
November 15th, 2014 at 2:24 am
HOW can you be so BLIND to see how STUPID and Disturbed this kid is????
His actions will not let him play at the NFL Level.
Arrests ( WHICH WOULD BE HAPPENING IF HE WERE NOT AT FSU) will not fly in the NFL
He plays for Free Shoes University for Chrissakes
November 15th, 2014 at 2:25 am
This kid is an IDIOT
PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 15th, 2014 at 2:26 am
Casual question: If you had his gifts…………………………Would you act like he does?
November 15th, 2014 at 2:27 am
gatrbuc17…that’s your opinion and your entitled to it. I on the other hand think that he(the 20 year old kid) will grow up once he’s out of FSU. I also don’t think he will get into any significant trouble that will cause him to miss any NFL games.
That’s just my opinion and it remains to be seen if I’m right or not.
November 15th, 2014 at 2:29 am
I respect your opinion my fellow fan but the track record for people in his position getting millions of dollars does not bode well for him
November 15th, 2014 at 2:29 am
Just sayin’
November 15th, 2014 at 2:36 am
There have been plenty of qb’s that have been drafted in the first round that don’t pan out and become busts. Many of them never had any off field troubles as Winston has in college, yet they still sucked in the NFL. To some that’s a sure fire indicator that Winston will surely be a bust.
I don’t see it that way. I see it as nothing bothers this kid. I see him as just that…a kid. I really think he sees it the same way. He stole the crab legs because he doesn’t give a shyte. Same goes for the BB gun incident. He figures as long as I play lights out and my team wins who would care what I do off the field. Which is where I come in and say. I don’t care what you do off the field as long as you keep winning. I’m serious too. If it showed up on the field, then I’d say throw him to the wolves.
November 15th, 2014 at 2:39 am
At least when he stole the crab legs…he was smart enough to remember the butter. lol
November 15th, 2014 at 2:40 am
“nothing bothers this kid”
Um That is good for his Psyche but it does Nothing for his ARREST record
His parents have said that they have had to move around because trouble Follows Jameis every where he goes.
Do a little more research my friend
IVe been a Gator for 42 years and a Buc for 38 years
I have sources and have seen things
November 15th, 2014 at 2:41 am
LOL on the remembering of the Butter
I have no probs with you bro. We are supposed to be Brethren
November 15th, 2014 at 2:43 am
I think that you are an FSU fan but that doesn’t mean we cant mitigate our differences……lol:)
November 15th, 2014 at 2:49 am
Anyways…………….Would you like to meet up for a beer or coffee?
November 15th, 2014 at 2:52 am
I was anti-Manziel not for his off the field minor antics compared to Winston. I was anti-Manziel because I think he’s going to get creamed by NFL linebackers with his 4.68 speed.
Like I said I could care less about every single thing a player does off the field, as long as it doesn’t show up on game day.
About 6 weeks or so ago before Joe put up this Jameis watch thingy. I was in here saying that he needs to stay in school and I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole because of his immaturity. Then he just kept winning. Sure FSU’s had some lucky bounces this season but, I was expecting all of this to catch up to him eventually. I expected them to lose.
He’s only 20 years old. He’s basically a baby. I did some REALLY dumb stuff when I was 20-21 years old. Stuff that makes stealing crab legs and shooting BB guns look like the kids stuff that they are. Hell at 20 years old I was VERY immature and I think I turned out okay.
November 15th, 2014 at 2:56 am
I’ve looked up Jameis Winston mugshots…I can’t find any. I don’t think he’s ever been arrested before.
November 15th, 2014 at 2:58 am
I’ve looked up Jameis Winston mugshots…I can’t find any. I don’t think he’s ever been arrested before.
There in lies your Main problem. You don’t realize that he plays for a Team that won’t LET him be Arrested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once he gets drafted he has no such protection anymore
November 15th, 2014 at 2:58 am
gatrbuc17 …ha ha ha. I live in bum fu**ed Pasco county.
November 15th, 2014 at 3:01 am
“There in lies your Main problem. You don’t realize that he plays for a Team that won’t LET him be Arrested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m not so quick to think that people would risk their own careers and livelihood in a tough economy to protect Jameis Winston.
November 15th, 2014 at 3:06 am
I’m not so quick to think that people would risk their own careers and livelihood in a tough economy to protect Jameis Winston.
Then why was Gurley suspended for FOUR games for one offense when Winston has only been suspended for ONE despite all of his infractions?
C’mon bro. Winston is an arrest waiting to happen]
IS THAT what you REALLY want for your Bucs Team??????
November 15th, 2014 at 3:07 am
Like the rape allegations. There must have been about 20 people give or take involved in that investigation. That’s 20 people that would risk their career, livelihood, reputation and possible freedom, meaning jail time if caught.
Somebody would have cracked by now. There just can’t be that many people willing to cover it all up.
Would you or I do jail time for stealing $20 worth of crab legs…and butter?
No probably not. Shooting BB guns at squirrels? Same thing.
November 15th, 2014 at 3:08 am
“Then why was Gurley suspended for FOUR games for one offense when Winston has only been suspended for ONE despite all of his infractions?”
Because Gurley came forward admitted what he did.
November 15th, 2014 at 3:11 am
Im going to bed. It is 12:10 here in Montana
Best of luck to you 87. If we get Winston then I will support him
Until then, he is worse than Johnny Manziel to me
WHO IS SITTING BEHIND BRIAN HOYER FOR THE JOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 15th, 2014 at 3:12 am
Stop being an Idiot 87
You used to be better than this
November 15th, 2014 at 3:14 am
He’s a 20 year old kid that stole crab legs, hollered swear words in the student union, and shot pellets at squirrels. That doesn’t sound like the kid is headed for any MAJOR trouble down the line to me. That’s not just the Nole in me talking either. I’d think the same way regardless.
Have you ever seen the movie Animal House?
November 15th, 2014 at 3:15 am

FSU produced NFL Quarterbacks
Peter Tom Willis (dud), Brad Johnson, Casey Weldon (dud), Danny Kanell (dud), Chris Weinke (worse superbowl…ever), Adrian McPherson (dud), Christian Ponder (dud), EJ Manuel (dud)
The track record is there…NOT!
The only saving grace is the fact that Johnson came from there, and he was good luck for us…but let’s be honest, Johnson was never a “great” quarterback.
Think about that, Winston-wanters.
November 15th, 2014 at 7:12 am
Winston isn’t even among the top seven college quarterbacks.
http://espn.go.com/ncf/qbr
November 15th, 2014 at 7:18 am
I’m against Winston for a couple reasons, but the main one?
He simply isn’t the best option if Marcus Mariota comes out. It don’t get more clear than that.
You can either hit a home run with Marcus Mariota, or “hope” for one with Winston.
The choice is obvious.
All the other things, including his tendency to be associated with trouble, are secondary.
November 15th, 2014 at 9:26 am
Mariota >>>> Winston. Sorry Winston fans but he is a bust. If the bucs draft this ass clown they won’t see the playoffs ever. nfl game speed is not college. JB has not been right on a college qb yet. See Manziel.
November 15th, 2014 at 9:34 am
I see Winston as far more prepared for the NFL since he’s been running a pro system, and I see him as a superior passer over Mariota. Winston compares very similarly to Big Ben.
November 15th, 2014 at 9:38 am
Oregon produced QBs.
Jay Feely
Akili Smith
Tony Graziani
Chris Miller
Joey Harrington
Kellen Clemens
I will give them Fouts….early 1970’s. Perhaps comparing the past is not so helpful, aye?
November 15th, 2014 at 10:38 am
Motivation keeps you going (perhaps it is moolah or whatever), but discipline (both off AND on the field) keeps you growing. I don’t care how talented you are. Does not matter how may ‘Get out of jail’ cards you receive. If you want to grow, consistency and balance is key. Once a boat load of money is coming to you, out goes ANY motivation factor. Whatch got left? Let’s find out then.
November 15th, 2014 at 11:19 am
@ gatorbuc17 I agree with you 110 percent. I don’t care who takes this pinhead! just hope its not the bucs then we will see how he does in the nfl. and a bank full of money I see trouble! and don’t think he is that great! he is not going to come in and turn this mess around. no one can. not worth arguing with 87 . his heads so far up winstons ars. lol
November 15th, 2014 at 11:53 am
I wonder where someone like Dan Marino would be drafted today in this era of social media? He dropped to the 27th pick in the 1983 draft due to “rumors” of cocaine addiction. Would he have even been drafted that high today with those kind of accusations?
I’m with 87. If Winston is there you have to draft him. Maybe not a solid role model but a hell of a QB.
November 15th, 2014 at 12:58 pm
OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!! RATHER HAVE THE DUCK! OF DEATH!
November 16th, 2014 at 11:05 am
What happens if we draft Winston and he gets the cash and sh!ts the bed, yeah yeah yeah he might not. But if he does where do we go from there? He is a good “college” QB so was (insert former Heisman QB from most any era) the NFL game is not college. It is a crap shoot. We might win or we might lose in our draft choices.
I want a DE a OL a Middle LB and another OL with our first 4 picks. Since Coach Tedford is not coming back we need to now figure out what type of offence we are going to run, so we may need some other offensive players.
So sad that we are again drooling over a QB who has some Big off field personal issues. We do not need choir boys but some players with some personal responsibilities. Do we really want to have Winston tell the Tampa fans how sorry he is for his personal actions and how it will not happen again blah blah blah. He is talented, but so full of his own self worth…. Tired of looking past issues on players who have talent but no personal self control.
