McCoy Regrets Blasting Teammates

November 13th, 2014

gerald mccoy 0916Fans love raw, emotional reactions of professional athletes. “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat” is how they characterized it back in the day on Wide World of Sports.

Gerald McCoy talked about his emotional, Sunday rip of his teammates last night.

The Bucs’ Pro Bowl defensive tackle said it was the wrong thing to do, though he didn’t try and take back the words he uttered. In case you missed it, here was McCoy’s postgame, quote: “I usually know what to say. At this point, guys. I don’t know. I don’t know anymore. I don’t know. I know we’re going to keep going. I don’t have no answer. I really don’t I’m sorry.

“We gotta be more disciplined that that. Penalties can kill you. A lot of the points in the game we were at because of penalties. Very undisciplined team. Very undisciplined team. Probably the worst I’ve ever been on as a collective, as a unit.”

Speaking on Total Access on the WDAE-AM 620 last night, McCoy said he prefers to blame himself and the emotion of the moment got the best of him.

“That was an immediate after-game reaction. Never should happen. Never ever should do that,” McCoy said. “That reaction I gave after the game this Sunday was not the reaction I should have given. That just goes to show after a game your emotions can be flying.”

Again, McCoy never claimed he spoke incorrectly, only that he shouldn’t have said what he said. There’s a difference there.

McCoy went on to say it’s not just him and Josh McCown (crying) having emotional responses. It’s widespread in the locker room, McCoy said.

Just win, guys. You’ll all start feeling better and thinking properly.

GMC….You & LVD can say anything you want……I’ll add ME13 & VJ to that list on offense…..

  2. Tom Edrington Says:

GMC was simply TELLING THE TRUTH….and as Col Jessup shoulded out in A FEW GOOD MEN:

    “YOU CAN”T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!”

The real truth is your wins and losses in the NFL……it is about the formation of a winning culture, this is a culture of Lovie spewing out goooo, thinking everyone listening are simply Pablum Puking Babies!!!!!!

    Good On ‘Ya Gerald…….

Oh shucks, perhaps it’s simply the new-age decorum:

“We can’t keep score as the children might see that they lost and it will hurt their feelings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

    FUBAR!!

  3. RastaMon Says:

Wishy washy leadership…is NO LEADERSHIP !!!!

  4. tmaxcon Says:

you hit the nail on the head RastaMon…. Leaders are definitive… This team is way to soft just like their head coach and superstar.

  5. meh Says:

It was the perfect reaction. I am very, very disappointed that McCoy walked it back.

  6. Jared Says:

Mccoy is the complete opposite of a leader. He’s more concerned about himself than anyone else. He’s got that stupid ass grin and the fact that he throws other people under the bus is just pathetic. He can ball though so who cares. lol.

  7. pick6 Says:

your mentor warren would have stuck by it. it would have made some of your teammates uncomfortable. those teammates are probably the loafers you’ve been referring to.

    McCown….

next home game the Bucs are going to be passing out onions at the turnstiles

  10. DB55 Says:

Let me guess, mccoy seen the game tape and realized he was the biggest culprit. 3x offsides penalties in a row and you have the nerve to call out your teammates. Smh

  11. Dave Pear Says:

Joe Maddon eye glass wearing, opposing player helping upper, Little Mermaid watching, $100 million dollar making, face of the franchise, Geraldine McCoy.
You didn’t hear McCown apologize for crying like a baby, you shouldn’t back track from your comments either. We are lacking real leadership on this team. Where are the players like Dick Butkus and Jack Lambert when you need them?

  12. bucs4lyfe Says:

HE SHOULD REGRET TELLING EVERYONE HIS FAVORITE MOVIE IS LITTLE MERMAID. YOU CAN ONLY BLAST YOUR TEAMMATES IF YOUR RECORDING STATS. THERES ONLY ONE PERSON WHO CAN AFFORD TO CALL OUT TEAMMATES AND THATS THE GUY LEADING THE LEAGUE IN SOLO TACKLES, THE GUY THAT HAS MORE INTERCEPTIONS THAN ANY CORNERBACK ON THE ROSTER SINCE HE’S GOTTEN HERE. LAVONTE DAVID IS THE ONE WHO NEEDS TO STEP UP AND HOLD HIS DEFENSE ACCOUNTABLE PLUS HE IS ON THE FIELD FOR EVERY SNAP LOVIE WAS AN IDIOT FOR TAKING THE MIC AWAY FROM HIM HE IS MORE EXPERIENCED AT CALLING PLAYS OUT THAN MASON FOSTER

  13. FanOfBucs Says:

    The comments are so strange…

  14. DallasBuc Says:

Who cares what anyone says anymore. It was all the talking this past offseason that got all of you fanboys thinking Josh McStake was a good idea as a starter on our football team. A lot of talk about those vaunted FAs that turned out exactly as I said, quantity over quality. Lots of talk by Joe and his fanboys about the great Lovie defense and how Lovie knows best. Too much damn talking. I’m sick of it.

  15. DB55 Says:

    Dallas

Like sheep to the slaughter. Your fault for drinking the kool aid brother. Trust but verify in all cases. why would you think mccown was going to be good? Bc he won 3 out of 5 games in the last 10 years? Lol that’s just funny.

Lovie and tedford wanted a mobile QB but not mike Vick.
They needed a DE but not peppers or Allen who played for our hc n dc respectively.
They needed a returner but not the GOAT Hester.
They need a 3rd down scat back but not Darren Sporles who play for our rival no benefit there.
We needed good CBs but not Revis.
We needed a MLB but not CJ Mosley.

Why would anyone think we would be successful? Bc talk radio hosts said so? Lol that’s funny.

  16. Robert 9 Says:

why is this guy still talking.

shouldn’t the coach tell these guys to STFU and stick to learning how to play?

  17. Robert 9 Says:

i bought it hook line and sinker db55

guess i was just hopeful and optimistic.

not again. not till they start winning will i waste a sunday on the succaneers

  18. DallasBuc Says:

DB55- I am one of the rare fans out there that didn’t buy it. Pretty much the ONLY fan on these pages that called BS from the moment lapdog Licht was hired by the HC. Go back and look if you want.

  19. Ray Rice Says:

He knows he shouldn’t have said $hit because he knows he’s not producing either. Tell me, IF he had stats like LVD would he have taken those words back? Hell no! Waste of $. Paying all that $ for a player just to eat up blocks. His position in this system is supposed to get to the QB no matter what.

  20. sho-nuff Says:

highest paid defensive player in the league ? pppffttt I would rather have Suh or Watt over McSniffles all day long

  21. DB55 Says:

    Dallas

You good, along with 87, rastamon, Ray and lightning. I don’t think any of you drank the kool aid. I got blasted on another site for calling out Lovie in March or April. So now I go back and troll them every now and then. Lol, homers, what can you do?

  22. Chef Paul Says:

So we got the TEAM LEADER publicly telling the coaching staff to kiss his butt last year. Then calls out his teammates twice this year just to apologize, then act all passive aggressive against the coaching staff last week. Then we want to know why this team tunes out the coaches year in and year out. This is NOT a leader. You can be good at your job and still not be a good leader. There is nothing wrong with that. Pretending to be a good leader? Ya, there’s something wrong with that.

It’s time he looks at LVD and says, “I f*cked it all up. It’s your team now. Tell me what to do boss.”

  23. DooshLaRue Says:

Interesting Gerald…,,,, just very interesting you know. I’m interested in how your wimpy azz gets paid all that money.
    Just interesting ya know……very interesting.
