A former Buccaneer finds hope in the Bucs’ game film

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers make a lot of mistakes and play undisciplined football. Performance is not their strong suit.

Joe finds this to be a terrible sign. Joe would much prefer a smart, precise team in need of talent versus a team in need of talent, plus focus and will.

Former Bucs tight end Dave Moore, however, is somewhat comforted by the mistakes he sees on the Bucs’ game film.

The color analyst/Xs and Os man of the Buccaneers Radio Network sees a team good enough to win games, if they can cut down on errors.

“Really when you look at it, as bad as it looks, it’s still about them, I mean, if they just eliminate their own mistakes, they win that ball game,” Moore told the Ronnie and TKras show yesterday.

“[We’ve] said that several times this year. You’re 1-8, but when you break it down and you look at it, it’s all things that are correctable. It’s not that the players can’t get it done. And there certainly are some positions, I’m sure, where they wish they had more talent or were healthier, or things like that. But they’re still able to win football teams if they correct their own mistakes.”

Joe gets what Moore’s saying, but he sort of eliminates the essence of sports — performance under stress and the hunger to beat the guy in front of you. The Bucs have gagged away five fourth-quarter leads this season. That’s no coincidence.

It’s like the basketball team that loses by six points every night. Yeah, they have the talent to compete, but they don’t have the intangible that makes a team — and a player — a winner.

Anyone who’s ever played sports on any level knows there are guys and teams who just find a way to win, whether it’s a clutch hitter, or a goalie on his A-game, or a tennis player who finds a big serve when needed, or the beer-soaked bowler who nails that 10th-frame strike. Whatever. The Bucs don’t have it and, frankly, there are no signs that it’s on the way before 2015.

Oh, how Joe wishes there were signs.

Joe. That sign is called “Jameis Winston.”

  2. Kalind Says:

Jameis is a living breathing, “I must win this game. If you ain’t first your last. No other option but the W” sign.

So, with that being the case, can we really call this a failure on the part of the talent evaluators? You hear over and over about how nobody could have known that Brady would be Brady when they were scouting him. The only way you could know would be to open his chest up and look at his heart. This season may be a case of a bad streak of bringing players together who didn’t have the right amount of heart. I feel like that last drive this week was a big clue about where the heart level was at. They were barely interested in getting the plays off, walking to the line, almost like they were indifferent about winning. Pretty sure that wasn’t the coach telling them to slow down and take it easy.

None of those sports you mentioned are like football where 10 people can be lined up where they should be and if one person is off then your defense gets torched, a basketball team that loses by 6 points simply doesn’t have a closer like sayyyyy a quarterback

You’re really saying baseball and basketball don’t play team defense? Really? –Joe

  5. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

The Bucs should be 7-2 and running away with this division and this is without a running game, QB, o-line, and top 20 defense/special teams. Every other team in the NFC South has more talent at every phase and are terrible this season. So do you fans on here think that coaches in this division are superior, think about it?

  6. RastaMon Says:

Bingo !…NBF…and I think this is why the players are dumbfounded…It is about the Coaching…not the talent…strating with Lovie not going for a 50 yard FG in the Panthers game

  7. Corey Says:

The reason they are commiting penelaties is they don’t have the talent I too many positions across the board. When your deficient in ability you will be out of position all to often causing you to cheat. They can’t help it.

  8. Corey Says:

They commit the penelaties because they are out of position. They are out of position because they are not as talented as the person across from them. It will continue for the remander of the year.

Amen Joe!!! This is a major reason why I want to win games now and the hell with the draft. That stuff will work itself out. In the meantime I would like our young players to figure out a way to WIN!!

BTW for those of you despondent Buc fans who need to watch something more stimulating, more professional, and waaaay more successful..

    GO BOLTS!

The Lightning can win the Stanley Cup this year. If Bishop stays healthy we have a true championship contender. The opposite of the Bucs baby.

  10. Zam Says:

Hey maybe THIS year we’re the Chiefs from 2 years ago. Everybody just had it wrong by a year.

I tune out the company men…literally turn the station when Moore, Becht and lane talk about the Bucs…I get it. The bucs are their employer…their opinion and analysis is bought and paid for by the Bucs…they don’t represent the fans, players, coaches and most of all the reality of what is
