Josh McCown Played Like Josh McCown
November 9th, 2014Bucs re-starting quarterback Josh McCown performed like the player he is today.
He was reasonably solid with his throws, minus a bad red-zone pick and a few other dangerous clunkers, and his overall decision-making was questionable at times.
Did you expect more?
That’s Josh McCown. He looks like an excellent backup quarterback, a lot like Mike Glennon on a good day.
McCown held the ball too long on several occasions, and forced throws needlessly at times. Either throw that red-zone pick out of bounds, or throw it only where Vincent Jackson can make a play.
On the upside, McCown showed off his wheels and versatility, and his throwing was often on the money. The guy sure can absorb hits, and his stats line will please many — 27-for-43. 301 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. But it was nowhere near good enough, not with a Bucs defense that has no pass rush or nastiness.
Joe would love to see Lovie Smith finally realize the Bucs are out of contention and hand the ball back to Glennon. Continuing to develop McCown, or whatever you call what’s happening, is downright silly.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:23 pm
He sucks ass
November 9th, 2014 at 5:23 pm
FIRE L&L….for starters….been banging that drum from post Panthers game !!!!
November 9th, 2014 at 5:25 pm
He’s still better than Glennon.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:26 pm
FIRE LOVIE AND LICHT NOW!!!!!!
November 9th, 2014 at 5:27 pm
Glennon has More TD Passes
Glennon has more WINS.
But lets start McClown
Fire Lovie
November 9th, 2014 at 5:28 pm
and what is the point in continuing to develop Glennon? he sucks
just come out and say it Joe, start Glennon to ensure a draft pick ahead of the Jets. That is the only reason to start Glennon.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:29 pm
Mccown at least looks like an NFL qb. He may not be good but Glennon is absolutely terrible. Get off Glennon already, he has no future in the NFL. I’ve said it all game but look at third downs between the 2 qbs. Glennon is lucky to get 2 or 3 a game. Mccown consistently converts and keeps drives alive. Regardless of the outcome, Mccown played better today than glennon has in any game his entire career.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:30 pm
They should just cut Glennon so I don’t have to hear his name anymore. The guy sucks. Get off his jock.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:30 pm
When u pay a average backup starter money you still get average backup. Love smith blowing glaziers money 5 million at a time.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:30 pm
Can’t wait to hear “we still have a lot of football left to play” followed up with “Josh is our quarterback”. Hope you guys who couldn’t wait to run Schiano out of town will be happy with 2 more years of Lovieball
November 9th, 2014 at 5:31 pm
Glennon has sucked McCown played better today but both are backups. Draft a QB. Penalties again hurt us.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:31 pm
I wonder how certain afternoon drivetime radio hosts are going to spin McCown’s performance. Two INTs, 17 points for the offense…..how is that better?
November 9th, 2014 at 5:31 pm
The both suck we need to draft a realt QB enough with the clown show
November 9th, 2014 at 5:32 pm
McClown blows harder than Monica Lewinsky.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:32 pm
Lovie will no doubt felate him in the presser.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:33 pm
possible that Lovie wants Josh to be his qb NEXT YEAr also. Built the trenches in the draft. Pick a qb in rd 4,5,6 or package ur extra picks, and pu up in rd3 if ur man is there.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:34 pm
If anyone knows football.
Glennon is our QB of the Future he could be a stud if we let him play.
But Lovie is an idiot and is going to tie his horse to a QB in the draft.
And we are going to continue to Suck.
Fire Lovie
Bench McClown
Put our only Winning QB Glennon IN.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:35 pm
I say we lose out the rest of the season and take a punter at number one.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:35 pm
@Joe
Can you do some digging and find out what the hell happened to Jeff Tedford?
November 9th, 2014 at 5:36 pm
They to re-consider whether Lovie should come back next season. Out of all people, do y’all want HIM picking our 1st round quarterback? I have no doubt he’ll screw it up; and then with that decision he screws up the next 3-4 years for us.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:38 pm
Glennon is better, not even close. Put him back in Snuffy. McCown could’nt upset anybody. Put the QB of the future, at least the rest of this season, back in as the starter.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:38 pm
This gane has nothing to do with Mccon…Glennon wouldve been sacked 8 times today with that pressure
November 9th, 2014 at 5:38 pm
Glennon is no stud sorry. We need a QB we don’t have anything but backups on this team.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:38 pm
What difference does it make? Neither QB needs to start next year.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:39 pm
Haha Glennon a stud haha I’m going to assume that was a joke and a funny one at that
November 9th, 2014 at 5:40 pm
Tears of McClown…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2E_RSAhYU
November 9th, 2014 at 5:40 pm
I’m just glad we lost and the Jets won…
At least McCown was able to get more receivers some throws, ASJ with 5 recs… Evans is a fuccin stud! Sims already looks like a bust…
At least the dude spread the ball around, got the chains moving, so our rookie receivers got more looks… Then tanked it so we can stay in the Top 3 hunt in ’15.
The neck would have stalled half those drives, while never getting past his 2nd read…
Lets keep feeding Evans and ASJ, & keep Tankin it For Jameis!!! GREAT GAME!!!
November 9th, 2014 at 5:41 pm
Was this an Atlanta home game?
The interception at the end should have been an incomplete pass but Josh shouldn’t have thrown it in the 1st place. Joe and whomever else will probably blame this loss on McCown but the refs didn’t do the Bucs any favors. Play calling for the Bucs in the 2nd half was terrible, just TERRIBLE. There was some horrible officiating and with the way this game was called the Bucs did not have room to make mistakes. Defense played well but could have had 2 interceptions but did not catch them. And do the Bucs have any other WR other than Evans and Jackson?
November 9th, 2014 at 5:41 pm
This is why Lovie & Light need to be fired. We keep seeing their incompetence and terrible roster lose every Sunday without signs of improvement so everyone please stop comparing to 1996. Please make it stop!
November 9th, 2014 at 5:41 pm
“Continuing to develop McCown, or whatever you call what’s happening, is downright silly.”
Continuing to develop Glennon is even sillier. Guy is garbage and has no future on this team. Distance yourself from him as much as you can and take a QB with your top 3 draft pick.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:41 pm
Did Mccoy suit up today or was he inactive along with Johnson?
November 9th, 2014 at 5:42 pm
McCown is just a little less terrible. Nothing more.
Worst organization in professional sports period.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:42 pm
Josh Mcown played like Josh Mclown
November 9th, 2014 at 5:43 pm
Hey…what if everyone is doing the BEST they can Do…….
November 9th, 2014 at 5:44 pm
“Did Mccoy suit up today or was he inactive along with Johnson?”
You might have missed him being smothered by triple teams play after play…
November 9th, 2014 at 5:44 pm
McCown played his part perfect today, make like you are trying to win but then barely lose at the last minute. Awesome. Glennon does his part as well. Keep up the good work fellas, sacrifice for the team! If the Raiders win a few games THEN we can win a couple ourselves, but only under that circumstance. We must stay focused on the prize, Marcus Mariotta baby. Keep up the good work BUCS, you are over half way there!
November 9th, 2014 at 5:45 pm
@RastaMon
Then that is scary as hell.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:45 pm
Mariota will lead us to the playoffs next year. Cant wait.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:48 pm
One thing is for sure we have 2 backup QBs. I don’t know if one is better than the other. We definitely need to draft a QB. Glennon is the backup QB of the future. It really does not matter which QB is in there. I still prefer we sign Connor Shaw from Cleveland practice squad to look forward to the remaining games. There was no sense of urgency in the final 2 minutes. Mind boggling.
McCoy is right. There is no nastiness on this defense. Although, I think DE Smith should start the rest of the games.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:49 pm
What makes you think we’re picking Mariota? ^^
Lovie will go DE with his first pick, or a maybe a punter.
I’m tired of this assclown Liar Smith.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:49 pm
JJ WATT gets tripled team and still makes plays..stop making excuses for McCoy
November 9th, 2014 at 5:49 pm
With the #1 pick in the 2015 draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select….
Jeff Driskel QBOTF from the University of Florida.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:50 pm
OAK with an INT!!
Go Raiders!! Go Jets!!! Another Week Closer to Jameis!!! (or a trade for Johnny Football)
November 9th, 2014 at 5:51 pm
Red zone turnover? Oh yea the accurate pass that bounced off Vjax hands in the in zone. I guess if you made you mind up before the game he is bad and all his fault you opinion is not a surprise. I believe most people would think Josh played well.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:56 pm
Again, QB play is towards the bottom of the list of concerns
November 9th, 2014 at 5:56 pm
Everyone getting mad like we are supposed to win. Lmao we have no identity as far as offense n defense
November 9th, 2014 at 5:57 pm
Glennon is not the answer right now but he might get better and get this….he’s ten years younger than Mc-waste of ten million dollars. McCown will never be a good QB. At least Glennon has a small chance.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:58 pm
Hey…how come I can channel surf and drop in on ANY football game..HS..College…Pro..and be entertained….except when watching the BUCS !!!!!
November 9th, 2014 at 5:59 pm
I hope we get the # 1 pick and then trade it for a 1st and a second and a 3rd this year.
Or a first and a third this year and a First Next year.
We are way more than a QB away from a winning Franchise.
We need high quality players.
November 9th, 2014 at 5:59 pm
This offensive line is still the Bucs achilles heel. I love how at the beginning of the broadcast how David Diehl was making excuses for why Matt Ryan was underperforming and how it wasn’t any of his fault because their offensive line is in bad shape. Matt Ryan has had more quality weapons at his disposal to work with but gets a pass because of a bad o-line. Our QB’s are not given that same luxury of an excuse, but it was clear today, that our offensive line is worse than theirs. If only we had Matt Ryan the blame would be on someone else.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:00 pm
I was praying McCown would come out when he was hurt so we could put Glennon in there. I was scared to death that between McCown’s mobility, accuracy, and willingness to make a play, he was going to win this game for us, something I never have to worry about Glennon doing.
BTW, Glennon-fans, Glennon couldn’t have made 1/4 of the plays McCown made because Glennon would’ve taken sacks and not gotten out of the pocket to extend and make first downs.
McCown had two picks at the end when he was desperately trying to make a play, fairly excusable, but there was a point in the game where the Bucs O was 10-13 on 3rd downs..Glennon can’t do that against air. He’s effing terrible and couldn’t escape a slow moving glacier.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:00 pm
Our playcalling continues to suck…..on 3rd & 2 we call an out pattern (low percentage) pass…..we never threw the ball short over the middle until late in the game…..
Punts & penalties killed us.
I will say this about McCown…..his mobility saved us several times.
And….once again, out Defense gave up a 4th Qtr lead.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:01 pm
Offseason-Trade round 2 and 3 for Manziel. Trade or release Glennon. Draft Leonard Williams.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:01 pm
And here I thought his ‘wheels’ were going to keep him out of reach of the defense.
BTW, “The season REALLY begins in December”.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:03 pm
I expected the organization to know that the first three games was the best McCown could offer. He is a game manager that requires a defense to set him up with good field position to be successful. Not saying that Glennon is the answer, but McCown we already knew was not the answer so what did we gain by having him start this game?
November 9th, 2014 at 6:03 pm
I don’t understand why in week 10 our defense still doesn’t know how to effectively play the Tampa 2. We need the pass rush to go to make it work but it’s nonexistent. Gerald is getting double teamed so shouldn’t there be a lineman getting there free?? Idk if the players are jus there for a check or do they really care cuz there’s no reason why our offense should be outplaying our defense. We have a JV defense. As far as offense were un disciplined on that oline and we have no sense of urgency. Ok I understand we have 3 timeouts but why wit 3 minutes left in the game were walking to the line of scrimmage uhhh were down by 10 not 7 not 3 were down by 10!!!COME ON THIS TEAM IS A JOKE RIGHT NOW but u know what I’m still a fan after 15 years
November 9th, 2014 at 6:05 pm
2 TD 2 INT. 17 PTS. LOSS. So what Brandon?
November 9th, 2014 at 6:07 pm
Our running game is so bad that McCowan lead the team in rushing. He also was able to get a first down 12 times on 3rd down. Threw for over 300 yards. Dumb penalties hurt us again. Those who really believe Glennon is better than McCowan at anything quarterback related, need to take off your rose colored glasses.

@Ether
You’re telling me that hew not supposed to make plays if more than one person blocks him. So that 90+ million they will pay him is only against one on one. Get the FUK outa here! With a big contract comes big criticism if you don’t produce. He’s not the only DT in the league to get game planned against. Look at Watt, Suh, Miller, etc… That’s elite. Mccoy got paid elite $ being mediocre.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:12 pm
McCown played pretty good today. The offense seemed to have some flow. The problem is, he doesn’t seem to know when there isn’t play to be made. He is still trying to force passes to VJax when there is nothing there. Poor decision making just like the first 3 games… And that last pass in the end zone went off the defenders hands, not VJax.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:13 pm
“Offseason-Trade round 2 and 3 for Manziel. Trade or release Glennon. Draft Leonard Williams.”
Hell, a 2015 2nd, 2016 2nd or 3rd… We need our picks this for this year…
But the idea of bringin in Manziel is growin on me…. That dude must be gettin hungry up there in CLE… I think the browns expected Hoyer to pull a McCown/Gleenon by midseason, but theyre gettin Ws, so they have no choice but to keep him in there…
Johnny Footballs gonna have something to prove in 2016…Reunite Manziel with Evans!!!
November 9th, 2014 at 6:13 pm
Back to basics
Let Glennon play and learn
build from the center out
once you develop a line that can give him time, evaluate him
I know this is hard for a lot of posters here to swallow, but if you listen to the real pro’s of the game, that is what they preach.
Lastly fire Lovie. he will never learn.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:14 pm
And I seriously think Koenen is playing hurt either he’s not saying anything or the team is not saying anything but he’s been punting for us for years why this whole year all of a sudden he is struggling all of this year. That’s not him
November 9th, 2014 at 6:16 pm
@Brandon – Glennon is the QB responsible for the Bucs only win this season so what exactly are you talking about? We scored 17 points against an awful Atlanta team that has given up 21+ points to EVERY SINGLE TEAM they have played, except the Bucs.
McCown extended some plays with his legs, which was nice. Other than that, it’s same old McCown. Nothing was game changing at all. Glennon isn’t very good and McCown isn’t very good. Arguing adamantly for one while saying the other is god awful is so silly.

I’m tired of this Glennon vs McCown argument. They both suck!
November 9th, 2014 at 6:17 pm
McCown did’nt play bad, he actually played pretty good. Evans played well, Jackson OK. The punter reeks, the defense seems befuddled, the running game barely existed. The refs sucked donkey appendages. Let me see, did I leave anybody out? Oh yeah, the Bucs overall sucked up the place. Did anyone that watched ever think the Bucs were going to win?
November 9th, 2014 at 6:18 pm
“I’m tired of this Glennon vs McCown argument. They both suck!”
For real…. We need to switch it over to Draft Jameis vs Trade for Manziel!!
November 9th, 2014 at 6:21 pm
@Ether
You’re a FUKN a retard. So he’s gettin paid all that $ to eat up blocks. You must not understand what his position entails. Thank goodness you don’t run the team. And you want to acquire Manziel. You are one dumb SOB.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:24 pm
I suggested in an earlier post to trade Doug Martin and Mike Glennon to Cleveland for Johnny Manziel.

“I suggested in an earlier post to trade Doug Martin and Mike Glennon to Cleveland for Johnny Manziel.”
It’ll prob take another pick or two (just wouldnt give up our 2015 1st rounder though), but I’d be all for it…
November 9th, 2014 at 6:29 pm
Poor Joe.
McCown did many things today- that Glennon is not even vaguely capable of. His mobility, long distance accuracy, calm in the Pocket are all things we haven’t seen here in a while.
Joe, what the f*+k could you possibly not know about Glennon by now?
He has a cannon. A pupkin cannon!! Just lobs them up in the air, and prays.
He can’t run. He can’t extent the play with his feet. He will go to a check down at the first sign of pressure.
He’s never gonna be a starting QB, on a winning team.
This team was a total disaster when Lovie/licht got here. A decade of horrible drafting. Terrible vets. Years of bad coaching by rookie coaches.
I think L&L are doing it the right way. Tear it down, and rebuild. This draft looks good. Let McCown run the ship another year- and add quality players.
THEN draft a QB.
Charlie Campbell had an interesting post on Waltfootball- about how no one should be surprised at how bad the Bucs are. He said drafting a “bad” Franchise QB alone will sit a club back five years
Just gonna have to deal with it.
We sucked bad. Gonna take time to fit it
November 9th, 2014 at 6:29 pm
The Bucs looked great, other than offense, defense, and special teams… The cheerleaders looked great anyway.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:33 pm
Kiss a first round QB goodbye
with Lovie
Very little pressure from the front four and easy third down conversions
means first round def lineman pick
November 9th, 2014 at 6:37 pm
McCown was McCown and that’s why he has done nothing in his career. Decent backup and that is it. Put Glennon in and see what he can do the Reston season. Drafting QB at one is a dangerous move. we need a lot more than that Look at Glennons draft class,he is by far the best.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:43 pm
Not by a wide margin, but McCown is the better of the two Bucs backups, even purely on passing accuracy, catches in stride, well-placed throws, not folding in a collapsing pocket .. etc .. .. They look more like an NFL team with him there.
They still suck, but it’s a step.
Moreover, McCown will be better while they’re losing for getting the offense acclimated to a QB like Mariota or Winston. Glennon is not athletic enough to even practice some of the things that McCown looked good doing, and he’s not good enough in the statue role to justify his playing.
November 9th, 2014 at 6:44 pm
17 pts!!!!!! enough said!!!!!!!! they both suck!!!!!
November 9th, 2014 at 6:55 pm
Depth at CB has been an issue for years. Showed up again today 🙁
November 9th, 2014 at 8:01 pm
I don’t know what some people see. Glennon and McClown are terrible if you don’t think the bucs need a QB in the draft you have no busisness watching football. The two have terrible numbers. Can’t win games. QB is the leader of the team everyone needs to follow him. No one believes in the two crap QB we have now they stink. If you don’t have a QB in the NFL you might as well stay home
November 9th, 2014 at 8:04 pm
We have drafted DL, DB, OL,TE,RB,WR,LB and crap Glennon how we doing? Time for a top QB
November 9th, 2014 at 8:05 pm
QB may not be the biggest need on the team or in the draft, but I just can’t see drafting a punter in the first round because ours is worse than our QBs…
November 9th, 2014 at 8:58 pm
Again…..What did we gain by starting a 35 year old QB? The season has been over for more than a few weeks so the McCown experiment should have ended by week 4. Not that I believe in Glennon, but what exactly did we gain by putting McCown back at starter? He is long gone either way!
November 10th, 2014 at 12:57 am
I enjoyed it way more than watching Glennon truth be told. 18 games of that was enough.
