Is Jason Licht On Board With Glennon Demotion?

“Well, you know, there have been quite a few bright moments, obviously the Pittsburgh game, and then New Orleans [he] played a very good game. I thought he was outstanding in that game. He’s a had a lot of throws, not to sound cliché, that he’d like to have back, including [in Cleveland]. It’s been a little up and down. We’ve got eight games left to go. And we’ll see how it goes after that. But right now I would say, I don’t want to say incomplete, but we’ve got a ways to go, and so does Mike.” Bucs general manager Jason Licht on Mike Glennon, Monday, Nov. 3.
This summer, Jason Licht talked about how he and Lovie Smith were in total agreement on personnel. And it wasn’t just the two Bucs leaders, it was the entire staff, Licht said.
It was as if they enjoyed a Vulcan mind meld — football style — throughout the entire scouting and coaching staff.
But what about now? Is everyone still on the same page and group-hugging?
Joe is purely speculating here, but Joe can’t imagine that a veteran personnel man like Licht is embracing the wisdom in starting Josh McCown for the 1-7 Buccaneers.
Playing Glennon could enhance his trade value and make him a more experienced, inexpensive backup. Glennon is set to earn the NFL’s version of peanuts the next two seasons. But leaving Glennon on the bench likely does nothing but kick his confidence in the groin.
Joe shared the quote above, from Licht’s appearance on Ronnie and TKras on WDAE-AM 620, because Licht sure didn’t sound like a guy ready to pull the plug on Glennon this week.

He may not see the field again, either if he does or he doesn’t he’s not the QB of the future. Well that is we have any hopes of being a winning annual playoff contender.

I don’t think the final judgement on whether Glennon’s days of playing for the Bucs is over has been determined. Even if McCown lights it up vs Atlanta, Glennon is still the QB of the future as far as I can tell. Nobody knows how long he will be with the Bucs. A few of MG’s throws were off at Cleveland, otherwise he has played good imo. What do you expect from this guy, he is a capable QB. I’m glad to have him on the Bucs roster.

Are you saying you see him as a starter going forward? Like for next season?
I have to say I don’t see either of them as starter material, no way, no how. But I don’t see the benefit of playing McCown at all. I’d say they are darn close to equal -in different ways. But it’s clear what you are going to get from McCown, whereas giving The Future more starting reps might make him a better Future backup

Glennon has nothing to offer a rookie QB except that he wants to start but McCown will at least help the rookie grow mentally in his football I.Q..
Glennon and his brother think that he is a starting QB so its a waste of time to keep him unless you keep 3 QB’s on next seasons roster and Josh can help the rookie to become starter and continue to help Glennon grow into a capable back-up QB.

Playing Glennon could reduce what little trade value he has left (see Cousins). Playing McCown so he can gain more experience in this offense to coach our future QB next year is the right move.

Lapdog Licht has little influence on Liar Lovie. It has already been stated that Lovie has final say, but Licht needs to man up. If I were Lovie’s GM, I’d say there’s something we gotta do about these bum FA’s we picked up. They have to cut the right guys (Johnson, Collins, Goldson, Mankins will probably not restructure, etc.), sign PROVEN guys instead of giving glorified backups boatloads of cheddar to play like swiss cheese 3rd stringers. Then decide if you really believe in Glennon to either move all in on him, or all in on a rookie. McClown is not taking us anywhere. And of course the rest of the draft, staff problems, and scheme problems.
But, of course, I am just a fan. Lapdog Licht gets paid to do stuff like this, which is really sad considering the state of the 2014 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

To me, the more Glennon plays, the lower his trade value. If other GM’s see that he can’t actually throw the ball unless he has all day to throw and he can’t make any throws beyond 20 yards, they might not want him. The less we can show of Glennon, the better.

Plain and simple, Glennon is not good enough. Great kid, not good enough. McCown (if he settles down) should be more effective at this point. I’m afraid we may end up winning some games and screw up our draft position.

I DON’T CARE who THE d**n OC we aren’t going anywhere anytime. Got two names for you..How about Rob Chudzinski? Did a nice job bringing Cam into the league..he’ll have a chance with either Marcus M or Jameis. By the way one other thing we forget is that ASJ missed all of the OTA’s because he was finishing school. Take away the fumble against MInn and he was starting to come around. now he has vanished from the offense. Looking forward to seeing Sims.

I think Lovie simply benched Glennon to send the message that he just didn’t play well enough to earn another start….
As for the future….I truly believe we will draft a QB that will compete with Glennon for the starting job.
There are several good QBs coming out next year…..I’m mostly impressed with Marriota….he’s a 6’4…240 LB Manziel without any of the baghigage.
I was also impressed with Winston….very accurate under pressure and takes a beating but hangs in there….something any QB of the Bucs will have to do. If our position is high enough….pull the trigger on either one.
My choice at this point is to wait and see our draft position….consider trade offers….if good, get another pick(s)….and select someone like Cook, Prescott or Petty.

Licht is a smart guy. We won’t win more than 1-2 more games with Napolean at the helm. Licht wants draft position! We HAVE to get a top QB next year

I don’t see an elite QB being projected in the top 10. Mariota’s style is just like Kaepernick. He can only play in a gimmicky college system that is designed for a rushing QB. That won’t work in the NFL. Winston is a much better prospect than Mariota. He actually reads very well from the pocket and can get the ball out quick with great anticipation. I only question his arm. I do not think he can make all the required NFL throws. If he can, then I’ve never seen it in games.
I would fill other holes on this team first in the draft and continue to develop Glennon. This offense only needs a better coordinator and time to gel. It’s risky to spend extra years trying to develop another young QB that certainly is not a can’t miss prospect.

I agree that the Cleveland Game was not our best game for Glennon, but I think it was a mistake to give up on him so soon.
This season is shot anyways, so play the Kid, and let’s see what we really have.

Need a oline for any QB that plays. McCown is garbage Glennon has played 10 times better what McCown has but sense a TE fumble and a oline that can’t give any time to throw McCown is the answer draft a oline first then get a QB

benching Glennon is a creative way to lose some more games while looking like you are trying to win. Tank this season, pick up a stud QB and L&L have a decade’s worth of job security while looking like wizards. It’s the “only logical thing to do”

Tampa is really pathetic!!! Epic failures and feels like we’re the only team saying trade this guy trade that guy how much could we get for starters who don’t produce and couldn’t start for any other nfl team even the raiders!
If your need to play glennon to get his trade value up after 18games them he’s just another one of our failed draft pick
