Lovie Claims Glennon Was “Great”

Bucs coach and overlord of football operations Lovie Smith has yet to address the local pen and mic club today — he will shortly — but he did speak with the Atlanta pen and mic club in his required Wednesday teleconference with media covering the opponent.
Lovie hinted that part of the reason Josh McCown was reinstated as the starter (in place of the quarterback of the past and the quarterback of the future but not the quarterback of the present) is becuase he was the starter previously and is now healthy enough to throw the ball, types D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“I think whenever you make a change at any position it has an impact. But you hope the impact won’t be that much. That’s just a part of it. Each week, very few teams have the same rotation each week. I know that the quarterback position is really important. . . .I just look at it as being able to get the best available guy in there and feel good about him being able to lead our team. That’s where we are right now. Josh was our starter before he went down with an injury. He’s healthy now. Mike (Glennon) did a great job when he was playing. We are just moving in that direction.”
So Glennon did a “great job” but has been benched, maybe for good. Right.
You know, Lovie would get a lot of respect from the public if Lovie just came out and said he is grasping at straws for a win and that Glennon is unable to do that (even though he got the Bucs their lone victory this season).
Trying to con people into believing a guy is “great” but is benched is arrogant, obnoxious and, frankly, fraudulent to those buying tickets and loyal fans, much less to Glennon himself.
Players who do “great” do not get benched. Simple as that.
Joe feels sorry for the next player Lovie calls “great.” Dude might want to start looking for the exit signs.

Every day brings fresh evidence that hiring Lovie Smith was a huge mistake. I was all for firing Greg Schiano, but I really wasn’t sold when they announced Lovie’s hiring. Guess my first instincts were correct.

Glennon had the chance to force Lovie’s hand in this decision. His less than average play over the past few weeks (save the Pit game) made the decision easier.
Had Glennon won more games (hell, if he would’ve even just won vs Browns) I think he’d still be the starter.
I don’t know if its just me, but it seems like Glennon isn’t getting past his 2nd read. If its not there, it seems like he panics. I don’t remember him looking ASJ way even once last game and off top of my head, i can’t remember many checkdowns.

He is not a liar, Glennon did great for a backup QB. Glennon proved he is not ready for a starting spot, might as well let McCown get used to the offense because he will prob start the season next year while the rookie learns the system. That, of course, is providing we don’t have a knew system next season.

Can’t agree more. The only words coming out of his mouth should be “I have not done a good enough job.”
Does he think anyone believes anything he is saying about this team or it’s players anymore? I understand there is always some “coach speak”, but the BS pouring from his head every week is just ridiculous.
I’ve truly lost interest in the Bucs this season, which has never happened no matter how bad we were in the past.

Lovie is acting like a guy scrambling to save his job? I’m a huge GlennonMob guy, and I’ve been insanely frustrated by the statue. BUT, is a McCown an upgrade of a lateral move?
It’s clear Lovie has a mancrush on McCown and this was always inevitable.
What a waste of a season. McCown isn’t a long term solution, what do we gain with this move? Maybe pick up 2 wins so Lovie can feel better about things?
I’m no expert but benching Glennon makes him untradable and doesn’t give you enough to see if he can grow into a starter.
This move doesn’t put us back to square 1, it puts us a year behind it. The next time the Bucs rep calls me about tickets, i’m gonna say why should I shell out the dough to watch this joke.
The season is really lost now, and probably next year too. When can I order my Bucs Culter jersey? I’m sure that’s coming as soon as Jay has absolutely nothing left.

Lovie’s mistake (just one of a gazillion)is when he did not just say that glennon was the starting QB when mcclown was injured. Then ride out the storm and concentrate on coaching and draft a QB in April. Oh, I forgot, he can’t coach. Oh just forget everything I said as I give up.

Lovie may be suffering early onset dementia for all I know. He does’nt seem to remember his past statements and is stubborn and standoffish to legitimate questions. Maybe he will get it figured out in a couple of years. I don’t see the Glazers getting rid of him. Better get used to the long haul.

C’mon Joe, do you really expect Lovie to say he was disappointed in Glennon’s performance last Sunday and he lost a job that was his because of his mediocre and poor play.
If he had done that everybody would have jumped on him. You included, for not being diplomatic enough.
I would have loved it if Gllennon had played well in the last two games against teams that weren’t as talented as ours and won the games. But the simple truth is he didn’t.
The end result is Glennon lost the job on his own. A job he could have made his with better play.
