Two For Glennon, Three Against

There are plenty of ways to evaluate Mike Glennon through his five starts this season. Hopefully, Lovie Smith will do the only smart thing and keep starting Glennon through December.
Using the most basic of measuring sticks, Glennon had two strong starts — Pittsburgh and New Orleans — followed by three bad ones against the Ravens, Vikings and Browns.
Glennon’s arrow is pointing down and he looks nothing like a potential franchise quarterback should after 18 career starts.
Throw in his lack of mobility, an arm that looks more noodle than cannon lately, and increasing brain cramps (keeping in mind Glennon’s mental game is on of his top strengths), it’s clear that Glennon needs a radical turnaround in the second half of the season to be a starter next season.
And Joe’s not just talking about being a Bucs starter, but a starter candidate anywhere.
On the mythical quarterback-of-the-future meter, Glennon is 2-3 this season — two good starts and three bad. He’s going to need to finish 8-5 to have any shot of leading the Bucs offense next year.

Poor Glennon the guy just can’t get a fair shake. Last year he had to deal with being thrown into the dumpster fire with no talent around him. Now he’s got basically a little kid calling his plays for him.

Glennon isn’t playing great football but we already know McCown isn’t the long term answer. Go with Glennon for the rest of the season and draft a QB. Regardless, Lovie will go with whoever he thinks can give him more than one win. 1-15 would be a disaster of a season, even though we’ve already reached the threshold of disaster at the halfway point.

Noone knows if Gleenon is the QB of the future…….everyone should know MCCown is not…this is a team that need to find the answers going forward McCown may get a few wins…but will not answer the important questions about whether we need to draft a QB with the first pick in 2015….we need

and if Gleenon can become a Brad Johnson…that will buy VAUABLE building blocks needed for the future..then a QB first pick 2016….

If Glennon is the leader of this offense next year – I will puke in my mouth and swallow it because that what the Bucs offense looks like to the league and everyone else.
Bucs better do what they can to trade up for top 3 pick to get a QB or they will die with Glennon at their cost.

I don’t see that intangible in Glennon to be a winner in this league. It’s not something I can explain with stats or numbers I just don’t see the “IT” you need to possess to start in this league. Now don’t get me wrong. I hope Glennon lights it up the next eight games. After that win in Pittsburgh I was as big a Glennon fan as any of these mobsters out there. I simply need to see more from Glennon.

It makes no sense to go back to McCown if they are truly trying to evaluate Glennon. If you feel like you already have enough info then go ahead and bring McCown back in and really piss off the fans if he blows up again. I think they will need to draft QB next year and keep Glennon as a backup but a fair evaluation would be to give him the rest of the year to see if he can get it turned around.

I think Glennon has one more game to prove it. After that, they’ll probably be going back to McCown. Honestly, I’ve seen enough from Glennon to see that he’s got some talent but we need more. That said, I don’t think that Winston is the right guy. It looks like Mariotta might be an interesting choice but I still don’t know. We’d have to get our OC knowing that we’re getting that QB and craft our whole offense around him and his game. Could be interesting to see him paired up with Sims. Could look a bit like pre-injury RGIII and Alfred Morris. Plus, we already know that Mike Evans plays well in that type of setup

You’re nuts Joe. Glennon is 1-4 as a starter period. He looks no different than last year. The only reason to keep playing him would be to get a higher draft pick. If the staff wants to have a shot of a winning record in the second half they need to start McCown. We have all seen enough and know Glennon is Not the guy nor will he ever be. Can’t wait to hear The Big Dog eat you alive again today. Being the General and card carrying member of the mob, you should be ashamed of yourself…you guys jumped ship quicker than rats on a sinking ship. Should be a fun listen.

@Gooberville – You’re arguing that if we want to win then we need to go back to the QB that hasn’t won yet? I’m not connecting the dots that you’re putting out there. McCown is 0-3 as a starter, period.

After eight games, the offensive line is playing better, the play calling is improving and Evans is playing much better and giving McCown a second chance is the best thing to do. Lovie Smith has an obligation to the players and fans, alike, to win as many games as possible, THIS YEAR and leave the draft concerns for NEXT YEAR. Mike Glennon is not the quarterback of the future and winning today is better served by using McCoun.

For all you guys who think the oline is getting better (which it is improving) I want you to watch Sunday’s game with a stopwatch. There’s a stopwatch on your phone in the clock app.
The most time I’ve clicked was 3.03 sec against a 3 man rush but on avg you’ll get 1.48 sec from snap to sack. Check it out, gives you more perspective.

The real problem is Lovie must be making his decision on how a player looks in practice. Glennon must excel when practicing against the Buc’s defense. When he goes live against the other teams starters, you know the story. Shame he can not face the Buc’s defense during games

start McCown…on a short leash…should have went in last week, if his hand’s healthy…Glennon looks like a 90 year old man on the scramble – cement feet!!…the line can’t be trusted, need someone to extend some plays and run for the odd first down..

Well let’s see, many experts will say a QB comes into their own in the 3rd year. Since Glennon is at 1 1/2 years with 18 starts on a marginal team I think he deserves more time. Unless L & L have already decided to move forward to a QB in the draft. In which case McCown will be the starter next year while our new QB learns the system. Then I’d put McCown back in and stick with him. Once they pull Glennon there is no going back.

I knew it!! I should have figured it out all along! I’m suprised it took me so long to figure this out! Damn Marcus Arroyo! Glennon wouldn’t be SO INNACCURATE and THROW SO MANY INT’S if he called the right plays… This is all Marcus Arroyo’s fault!
Glennon has done nothing but help this team win! All his INT’s and poor throws have nothing to do with the fact that he’s innacurate! He’s the next Tom Brady playing for a bad offensive coordinator! Please trade him so he can start breaking all the NFL records on another team!!
I only wish he had 3.5 seconds to throw instead of 3.0 seconds! That would be the difference between 245 yards and 2 INT’s to 500 yards and 5TD’s!! Poor Kid!

If McCown turns out to be pretty decent, (again, he never had a chance those 1st few weeks with that O-Line)… but if he’s decent, he can help bring Evans Along, ASJ, Sims, so Winston will have some proven weapons…
…but if McCown starts to put up points??? Then bring in Glennon whenever we’re up in the 4th QTR…

I would like to see what Kafka can do. I am confident that Glennon won’t turn into a franchise qb with this roster and with this coach over the next 8 games.
If anything, a few decent Glennon games and meaningless wins at the end of the season will persuade the Team Lovie to not draft qb in 2015.
Perhaps Kafka will be a reasonable backup or who knows maybe the second coming of an above average starting qb? We can all agree that what we’ve got now is below average by all accounts at this point.

@patric/reality..come on guys. MCcown did not have a fair shot.. Point 1 – arroyo just took over and had no idea what to call (some wonder if he still does) point 2- the offensive line was still a work in progress (some say it still is ) point 3 – the team had the lead in the 4th qtr of 2 of his games.. Did he throw crucial picks? Yes ., but Glennon has 2. My point is I know the future QB is not on this team and depending on what the direction the team wants to go in will determine who they should start. Higher draft pick = Glennon.. More of a chance at winning this year = Mccown.

Glennon in his 2nd year in the NFL will be the QB for the rest of the season. Now all they need to do is get rid of McCown and draft a QB next year. Then we have 2 young QBs and we go from there. Case closed.

In all fairness to Mike Glennon, He’s done a great job considering the fact that he’s dealt adverse & conservative play calling from his rookie Offensive Coordinator, horrible pass blocking by his offensive, terrible special teams play, and an inept running game for 3 of his 4 games that he’s started.
Perhaps he was rattled from the previous weeks beating that he took behind our spotty offensive line.
Glennon had a bad game on Sunday, He probably didn’t expect his offensive line to show up like they did?
Josh McCown is 35, and He’s proven he’s not the long term answer at QB!

They lost their last game to New Orleans, finishing the 2004 season at 7–9. Had they won the game, the Panthers would have made the playoffs”

I absolutely have no faith in Glennon. I don’t care if everyone thinks if it is the scheme or coaching to blame. But I don’t see it in Glennon at all. I don’t see any fight/athleticism and I have never seen more out of bounds sacks by any other QB. He has a terrible habit of keeping the ball and taking a sack while running out of bounds. Multiple times I have seen him run out of bounds on third down short of a first, acting like we are leading by 21 points or something. I see no footwork in the pocket, poor pocket presence and overall look of fear in his eyes.

Okay, Glennon is not a good QB but please don’t put McStake in. He represents everything that is wrong with the poor decision making of do-no-wrong Lovie and his lapdog GM. I will do anything to watch my Bucs play on Sundays. People that know me know this is sacred but I am not sure I can stomach watching McStake start one more football game for us. The humiliation that he is as a player and that he represents for this team is too damn painful.

I’m all in with Glennon starting the rest of the season. I won’t bail on MG just yet, even if his play has been erratic lately. He still holds more promise than McCown and his age is a big part of that. Joe, don’t agree with big dog and burn your MGM membership for that blowhard.

I’ll give glennon one thing I saw him as an intelligent quarterback but his arm just isn’t talented and he does melt under pressure to the point he is scared to run for his life lol. glennon cant be considered to be a future qb with that completion percentage and if were gonna struggle we might as well do it with a rookie quarterback with a higher ceiling

If you start McCown and he puts together a few wins, then that is a major problem. We won’t be able to draft Winston with too many wins.
So keep Glennon in… he sure hasn’t been able to win.
Some of you guys hate Glennon so much that you want him on the bench… but you also want a QB in round 1… but then you turn around and want McCown to start to win a few symbolic games??? That would knock us out of the draft position to get Winston.
