“Football Doesn’t Really Begin Until November”
November 1st, 2014That quote from Lovie Smith this week brought a lot of chuckles — and tears — to media types and fans.
And considering it’s Nov. 1, Joe thought it was fitting to mention it this afternoon.
The popular Ron and Ian show on WDAE-AM 620 was among the throng that skewered Lovie for those words, and Joe joined them yesterday to talk all things Bucs.
The full audio is below, including the opening where you can hear Lovie speak his famous quote.

So the preseason is finally over. Now its time to play some FOOTBALL!!
November 1st, 2014 at 2:27 pm
The more Lovie speaks & the more games we play, the more credibility he loses. #FireLovie
November 1st, 2014 at 2:30 pm
Lovie is a walking, talking buffoon!
November 1st, 2014 at 2:33 pm
Fire this clown
November 1st, 2014 at 2:34 pm
I wish the other coaches in the NFL shared his view . That explains now why we are 1-6. It’s as simple as that. Thanks for explaining that to us fans, Lovie.
November 1st, 2014 at 2:36 pm
And….another missed opportunity for the Tampa media….
The only thing softer than our Oline & Dline is our media…
Here is the question……”Did you just say football starts in November? Can we quote you on that?”
or…”Football may start for you and the Bucs in November, but it seems to have started for everyone else in September, don’t you think?”
November 1st, 2014 at 2:39 pm
Lovie should be hit right after he makes a comment like that….not a day later in a cowardly column…..
November 1st, 2014 at 2:45 pm
Yes. November and December football are considered by all the most important months. But this only holds true for teams that have put themselves in good position to compete down the stretch. Our YUCS aren’t close. But they can treat this second half of the season as a new season and finish strong.
November 1st, 2014 at 3:01 pm
I thought before the season that win or lose, Lovie would have at least made the Bucs respectable.
I’m an idiot.
This is a SH*T SHOW of epic magnitude.
They’re in danger of a completely lost season with nothing built and no progression. In fact they could be in worse shape than last offseason.
Go Sucs!
November 1st, 2014 at 3:02 pm
another sad quote from the master of ineptitude. lovie smith is a walking wealth of useless knowledge. thank you glazers for selecting this clown for are head coach. what are you gonna do for an encore? bring back respect for this club and fire this buffoon, I am sure there are a lot more qualified candidates out there, if only you would seriously looked.
November 1st, 2014 at 3:03 pm
I don’t know if ironic is the right word but does anyone else think it’s kinda funny that the “it’s a Bucs life” sign is right beside the score on the ray Jay scoreboard? It’s almost like the owners are saying “yeah, we get it”
November 1st, 2014 at 3:06 pm
This guy is a real gem!

November 1st, 2014 at 3:38 pm
Lovie: Don’t forget we are a 4-12 team.
I guess Lovie just wanted us to remember the “good ol’ days”.
November 1st, 2014 at 3:39 pm

November 1st, 2014 at 3:44 pm
Go home Lovie… you’re drunk.
November 1st, 2014 at 3:46 pm

November 1st, 2014 at 4:06 pm
Lovie makes comments that make him seem delusional.
November 1st, 2014 at 4:11 pm
Lovie was not always in his basement….he did have one side job…

Lovie (Howell) has said more idiotic things these last 2 weeks than Shiano’s famous “We didn’t practice the no-huddle during the week against 49ers so that is why we stopped it” comment.
Brownies 35 – Bucs 17.
November 1st, 2014 at 5:01 pm
Brain Fart Lovie Strikes again.. Is he for real or what.. Real smart Lovie pure genius..
November 1st, 2014 at 5:18 pm
Lovie, thanks to your effort, it’s November and football is over for us.
Have fun in the next couple of months and all the meaningless games ahead.
It’s moronic comments like this that will hopefully get you fired at.the end of the year.

“The more I hear him speak the more he sounds like” Chauncey Gardener… from the movie “Being There”
November 1st, 2014 at 6:18 pm
If the bucs hire rod marinelli after this season we’ll be ok.
November 1st, 2014 at 6:35 pm
Joe
If football doesn’t start until November, why does our record count towards the playoffs? You might want to ask him that or maybe he doesn’t know that it does, what do you think?
November 1st, 2014 at 6:52 pm
Please tell me he did not say that? I’m at a loss for words! I know in the NFL teams play in increments of 4 games? So you’re telling me the first 7 games were for nothing in Lovie Land? This is a ridiculous statement. Lovie a little honest at this point might do you a little good. We all are starting to question you as a coach and a leader of our Bucs.
I’ve been a fan since 76, so I’ve seen bad coaching and all the excuses that have come along with losing, but this might take the cake!
November 1st, 2014 at 7:03 pm
This guy, Lovie, who is he? Not what I thought when we got him, thats for sure!!
So 2 or 3 more years of this mess with him? Hope we’re looking for his replacement already so I dont check out for too long.
November 1st, 2014 at 7:36 pm
The worst part about this article is having to actually see the mugs from the boringest radio show on the planet.
November 1st, 2014 at 8:15 pm
Lovie needs a course in Belichickese. More often than not, saying nothing is the best course of action.
November 1st, 2014 at 8:40 pm
HE IS A A..HOLE!!!!
November 1st, 2014 at 8:44 pm
and the glazers think this is normal!!
November 1st, 2014 at 8:44 pm
WOW!!
November 1st, 2014 at 9:50 pm
Whew!
I was really worried, there for a while!
November 1st, 2014 at 11:25 pm
We traded Schiano for talk like this. Schiano ALWAYS owned up to the losses and took most of the blame. I’ve yet to see Lovie do the same. Has he or did I miss something?
Why does he continue to talk to all of us like were a bunch of fools? I mean only some of us are, not the entire fan base….
Hmmm perhaps he’d make a great candidate for President of the U.S. some day. Because “we don’t expect our fans to be patient”, sounds a lot like Hope & Change.
November 2nd, 2014 at 1:01 am
The sad state of the Bucs is Schianos fault.
It will take Lovie years to correct Schianos damage.
Schiano is responsible for domestic abuse and obesity.
…and the fans. It’s also the crappy podunk fans faults.

Yeah, the situation with the Bucs is a lot like how Skippy Holtz left the USF Bulls for Coach Taggert. Chris Landry mentioned on one of the blogs that Joe posted that the Bucs are really talent depleted and probably have been for awhile; going through 2 bad coaching regimes. I have to add to your retort Howard in that we also have to point the finger at the Baby Glazers as well: they have botched things up since they took over operations from their father in 2006! First they go and fire Gruden after 2a pair of 9-7 seasons, then hire an undisciplined Rah and follow that mistake by overcompensating with the hiring of micro-manager/ control freak Schiano all the while having some rather poor drafts and some questionable roster moves. Its been a mess for the past 5 seasons and it could take that long for the Bucs to recover…..

LovieDovie&co- what a treat. Respect for this man, his accomplishments, abilities and overall position as HC of a football team plummets with regularity. On pace with opportunities in front of recording devices.
There is zero shame in that outfit, sadly.
