Lovie Talks Softness, QB Reps, “The Big Picture,” Hawk Reality, David Love & More

As usual, the leader of Lovieball, Lovie Smith, took questions this afternoon from the podium at One Buc Palace.
Lovie actually was eager to talk about his QB situation, though the chatter did remind Joe of his favorite James Brown song.
Little was revealed on that front other than Josh McCown’s improved health is a good thing.
Lovie also dove into many topics including “the big picture,” which Lovie says is that his team is only a couple of games out of first place in the NFC South.

Its 3rd and 20 on the Bucs 5 yard line w/ 1:20 on the clock. The Bucs are in a 4wr set and the defense is blitzing and Sims picks it up. All of the wr are covered and the Bucs don’t have a play for 4th and 20. Winston takes off and gains 15 yards and the O rushes up to the line for the next play. Evans is doubled Herron is covered in the slot and ASJ is shadowed but Sims gets out the backfield because the defense dosen’t want Winston to run on them again. Winston hit sims who gets the 1st down and more and goes out of bounds to save the last timeout. NOW CAN ANYONE SEE A SCENARIO LIKE THIS HAPPENING WITH GLENNON AS THE QB. NO BECAUSE GLENNON WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE SAFETY AND EVERYONE WOULD BLAME THE O-LINE ANG COACHING DECISION.

I will not cheer for a team with a QB that did what Winston did. Won’t cheer for Pittsburgh either.

^ acting like Winston couldn’t have been sacked on that play. A dude was running straight at him full speed. It was terrible play calling when you up on the score board. Just run the ball and punt….

One problem Newbucsfan!!! Winston is a drop back passer. Maybe you need to see the replay of that safety about 20 more times to realize the LB came into the end zone untouched by Mankins who ever was supposed to block at the time. The hole was so big that LB could have driven a truck through it.

J@ 2.0…then it’s possible that you might be needing to find a new team soon. Hey whatever happened to that civil suit her lawyer said she was going to file way back in March? She was going to file it against the Tally police, and FSU to hold people accountable she said at the time. She said they would do jail time for this “cover up”.
Now I’m no lawyer, but my brother is though. He said the suit would have already been filed and made public months ago.. I thought she was going to have all these people locked up, the SVU, the Sheriff, the cops involved, and board members. All those people risked their freedom for Jameis Winston a then redshirt freshmen at the time?? I find that highly unlikely…
Where’s this damn civil suit that was supposed to be coming down the pike?

1984+3… The obvious denial of Winston’s troubling tenure while in Tallahassee is a sign of tunnel vision. The fact that you refuse to see the collusion between FSU and law enforcement in Tallahasse protecting their golden boy is laughable. Sports now trump justice and you back that unfortunate truth. Tallahassee is corrupt and so is FSU. To pretend otherwise is complete lunacy.

I won’t talk about the young lady at FSU who………. but I will say that everyone who doesn’t like Winston should read the transcripts and see if she is innocent in all this. I doubt that the state of Florida and one of it’s Universities along with it’s police department would go out of their way to protect Winston.
With the social climate today and the media always looking for headlines it would really be something to behold if this was the case. A black man being accused of …. by a white woman in world that glossed over a black boy being shot by a neighborhood watch or a white cop shooting/killing a black boy in the street in front of a black community. yeah, I guess Winston must be responsible for allegedly doing that, who in the h3ll does he think he is. Somebody remind the state of Florida what kind of justice there is for black men I mean if a white person says it then it must be true.

Buccfan37…just answer the question then. Why would law enforcement officials, and so many others involved not only risk their careers, reputation and freedom (jail time) to protect a redshirt freshman QB who was not even named the starting QB yet at the time?
I’m talking numerous officers, departments (including the one assigned to investigate sexual assaults) risk their careers, reputations and perhaps their own freedom to protect a redshirt freshman for the local football team. It would require numerous people to cover up such a thing and they’d all have to be in on it too.
I bet not one of you Winston haters can answer that question. Please do try though.

As far as all the other stuff that he’s done while in college. Crab legs? I stole stuff before when I was kid too. I’ve shot BB guns at people before too when I was a kid. Hollering obscenities in the student union…oh the horror of it all.
A 20 year old college kid acting like a 20 year old college kid? Who would’ve thunk it?
As far as all this stuff outside of the he said she said allegations. I’ve seen just as bad of things being done by many college kids before. I’m sure far worse stuff is being done across the nation on college campuses than stealing crab legs at Publix and hollering obscenities in the student union.
A college kid getting into trouble? Never happens I guess. Winston must be the only one to get into trouble while in college or so it seems when it comes to the media.

1987… I don’t hate Winston, to err is human. I’m just pointing out the special treatment he has been given because of his athletic talent. As far as why would all these offices put their jobs on the line to defend Winston, that’s because the denial and coverup comes from the top. All those below are covered by the umbrella dictated from the top concerning Winston.

That’s no answer at all. That’s just spinning it. Your telling me SVU looked the other way, female officers looked the other way. There’s too many people involved into the investigation. Someone would crack, something would leak. I’m really not being bias at all because I’m a Nole. It’s just how I see it. Her lawyer stated numerous times that many people are going to take the fall for this. Yet no civil suit has been filed yet. I’d think someone would crack by now in fear of prosecution. At the very least some female officer would stand up and say something.
What I really think it boils down to is just like that Meggs dude said. There just wasn’t enough evidence to charge him. So everyone is left to make their own assumptions and that sucks for both parties involved, more so for her of course. Also for him as well, because he can’t really clear his name in the court of public opinion without going to court. Even still if he was found not guilty, many people would still not believe him. It’s also possible that she was too effed up to even remember having consensual sex with him, so hours later she might of thought she was raped(my wife’s take). There’s too many possibilities.
@Joe…thanks for the song I too thought that was a great touch. I’m done ranting about an FSU QB on a Buc blog for now. I really don’t think I can say anymore on the subject anyways. Except that I’m not just blindly looking the other way because he plays for my favorite college team. It really is how I’ve seen it as everything transpired. I give the 20 year old kid the benefit of the doubt. It could be because I’ve seen a good friend of mine get the police called on him by his girlfriend for something he never even did in the first place. It happens all the time. One thing’s for certain the kid has nerves of steel to be dealing with all this off the field crap and to still be playing at such a high level.
That’s one of the reasons why I want him so badly in Tampa.

@Harry…I’ve come to this conclusion with the kid, and is stupid antics. I really think he doesn’t care at all about the spotlight. He won the Heisman and said it’s not about him, it’s about FSU.
I really think he doesn’t give an ef what people think. He’s cocky as hell and he knows he’s really good. So he’s going to do what ever he wants to do. Damn that will lead people back into the rape allegations again…thinking he’s guilty an how come I don’t.
He figures I’m going to get paid either way, I’m in college and I’m going to raise hell. Seriously I’m done for the night now. My wife is begging me to get the hell off this damn computer.

“To err”…..Wrong…..These are conscious decisions by Winston. He lacks character. There are millions of kids who go through life without engaging in behavior that is suspect. These are not “mistakes.” His actions offer evidence that he lacks the foundation to be a good person and that he will continue to make decisions that are far from being lapses of judgement. –

Some day in the near future Winston will be holding a Lombardi trophy with or without the Bucs. I hope you all enjoy watching that happen, because it will happen and it won’t take that long either. Then most of you will say damn I wish that we DID draft him while our team is still at the bottom of the division and the fans are still in misery. Enjoy it all.

in a league where rookie QBs are expected to not just play but to carry average (or worse) teams, you have to be a grown man with the respec of your teammates to carry that load. how much respect did Johnny Manziel truly have stepping into the browns locker room? how much will winston have if he behaves like a “typical 21 year old” with money a la Johnny Football? Winston may not be violating any rules, but you can’t say “i have a right to be young & crazy!” and then turn around and say “follow me and respect me as a man and a leader”. If you don’t want to be held to a higher standard, don’t set “NFL QB” as your career goal. and if you do, expect people to be skeptical until you show them you can carry the mental load of preparation and leadership

j. winston and johnny football are the 2014/15 editions of vince young. prediction: EJ Manuel will leave the NFL with a more positive legacy than Jameis Winston.
