Mike Glennon Doesn’t Care Who Is Healthy
October 23rd, 2014Lovie Smith loves to play high school espionage. His attempted cloak-and-dagger dodging of who is playing quarterback this week is just silly. (And it continued this afternoon)
We all know who is playing quarterback and, as Joe pointed out earlier, there is so much video of both starter Mike Glennon and turnover-prone Josh McCown, Joe doesn’t understand what Lovie is trying to accomplish.
It’s like Joe sitting at his normal barstool trying to pretend he doesn’t like beer.
Honest to goodness, Joe half-expects Lovie to switch up players’ numbers just before kickoff Sunday, which is an old high school stunt from decades ago to try to cross up opponents. That was back before high schools had access to film and rosters.
These carnival shell games aren’t bothering Glennon, who yesterday boasted he is ready to rock and roll as the Bucs come off a weekend off.
“It’s good to see [McCown] get healthy,” Glennon said. “He’s great to have around at practice. It’s good to see him get back and throw it around, but it doesn’t change my mindset. My mindset is to win games. No matter f he’s back or not, that’s what I’m preparing to do. I’m going to prepare just like I have every week just to be the guy and I don’t think anything in my preparation is going to change.”
Joe likes this attitude from the starting quarterback of the Pewter Pirates. If Lovie wants to continue to play head games and pretend to be Race Bannon, then go ahead. Glennon is going to worry about the upcoming opponent.
Barring an injury to Glennon, there really is no call for starting McCown.

Mike Glennon, my man! Hey maybe Lovie will give the orders to do a 3 step drop, I am sure the Vikings will have no answer for it!

Lovie benched Orton in chicago as soon as Rex Grossman got healthy
I wouldn’t lay money on Glennon to start.

Unless mclown can’t throw the ball, he will start. Oh wait mclown can’t throw the ball even when he’s healthy. Wait I take that back he can’t throw the ball to his own team when he’s …….

Lovie is just taunting the fans by not naming the starter. Mabe he just has’nt made up his mind. I’m leaning heavily on a Bucs win no matter who starts at QB. Bridgewater and crew will be held in check.

I don’t really care who is in at quarterback, the offensive line and the run game are far worse than even josh mccowns play. we need the o line and martin to step it up and who is in at quarterback will look much better instantly

For some reason I think he will start McCown……he still has a chance to put Glennon in if we lose a couple more games…..I don’t think he should….but Lovie is stubborn.
Here’s the question.
Does he admit he was wrong to choose McCown to start the season and keep him on the bench or does he start him in hopes that McCown will redeem himself? Only Lovie & his hairdresser knows….

I’ll be surprised if Lovie starts McCown. This is no longer about his ego and failure to figure out that Glennon was better than McCown all along. McCown is an excellent backup QB to have on our squad.
Regardless of what one thinks about Lovie’s ability I believe this about virtually everybody in the NFL, which is one reason Schiano is no longer in the league.
When it gets down to it a head coach would walk over his dead momma’s grave to get a WIN. Wins are hard to come by in the NFL. Lovie is FAR more worried about winning the game than protecting his ego, although those two things go hand in hand anyway.
MGMer’s rejoice. Your boy gets the start. I think Glennon continues to improve and by the end of the year the debate will be high volume. Glennon or Jameis or Marcus Mariotta or even Connor Cook.
IMHO…we keep Glennon for next year, let McCown back him up and draft several beasts for the DL and OL. We need help for our lines. If the DL could play a lick the DB’s will all look better and we have competent linebackers.

Lovie was never wrong to bring in McCown and start him. He knew what he had in McCown, and didn’t know anything about Glennon. other than his terrible game tape from 2013. He made the 100% best choice. If Glennon wowed everyone then McCown would be Glennons mentor. Win/win. Fact is that Glennon didn’t wow in training camp. Joe covered it, and reported that McCown was clearly the better QB. So why would Lovie admit to a mistake when it was the best scenario. Just because a few people thought Glennon was a better QB, doesn’t mean he showed that to the coaches. And the way Glennon is currently playing doesn’t make him any better tha McCown. He is making just as many mistakes as McCown. But when McCown was in it was all McCowns fault. When Glennons is in its all of the rest of the teams fault we lose. McCown was never given a fair shot by many of the fans. And he lost even more after a terrible 0-3 start. But if you actually assess the game tape, McCown didn’t play bad. He made a couple bad plays, but that’s to be expected from any QB. No QB is perfect. The reason the bucs lost any of the games this season could be held on the defense. Yet McCown gets blamed for his games, and everyone but Glennon gets blamed for his games. It’s a double standard and I don’t think people are even trying to look at these things with a clear unbiased mind. Fact is neither QB have performed very well this season.

They both suck both have the same number of turnovers. I don’t think it matters who starts they are backup QB.
October 23rd, 2014 at 5:43 pm
And lovie doesn’t have to tell the fans who the qb will be because he doesn’t have a top 10 qb. So it is all gamesmanship, maybe he’s trying to get an advantage on the other team to win the game. (You know what a coach does!)

Glennon is in his second year….. McCown is a Nine year veteran…. who should be making mistakes?
October 23rd, 2014 at 6:07 pm
Its 3rd and 20 on the Bucs 5 yard line w/ 1:20 on the clock. The Bucs are in a 4wr set and the defense is blitzing and Sims picks it up. All of the wr are covered and the Bucs don’t have a play for 4th and 20. Winston takes off and gains 15 yards and the O rushes up to the line for the next play. Evans is doubled Herron is covered in the slot and ASJ is shadowed but Sims gets out the backfield because the defense dosen’t want Winston to run on them again. Winston hit sims who gets the 1st down and more and goes out of bounds to save the last timeout. NOW CAN ANYONE SEE A SCENARIO LIKE THIS HAPPENING WITH GLENNON AS THE QB. NO BECAUSE GLENNON WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE SAFETY AND EVERYONE WOULD BLAME THE O-LINE ANG COACHING DECISION.

Keep telling yourself that.

The Cannon fears nobody

The only problem NewBucs is how is Winston going to run the ball when he’s suspended from the league for yet ANOTHER boneheaded move. Will it be in a nightclub again, perhaps like PacMan Jones….oh wait…PacMan is flourishing.
Well you know he’ll get involved in a murder like Ray Lewis…oh wait Lewis is on the way to the HOF.
Hey it’s the NFL….which NFL…the one that suspended Ray Rice after being forced to…or the one that let Greg Hardy get convicted of domestic abuse.
Is there ANYTHING that Jameis would do in the future that would surprise us.
Hey I’m happy for the Noles…enjoy the title…you earned it. Personally I’ll take someone with a lot less baggage. Mariotta may not only be a better player he is clearly a much better much more mature human being. Let Jameis play for the Raiders. Their record is even worse than ours and Jameis would fit perfectly in the Silver and Black.
October 23rd, 2014 at 7:38 pm
Asking who the QB on this team is like wondering who the cook is on the Titanic while it’s sinking. Gimme a break. Whoever plays is screwed as long as this defense is taking the field.
October 23rd, 2014 at 7:47 pm
Race Bannon? Is that the white-haired dude from Johnny Quest?
October 23rd, 2014 at 7:47 pm
Lovie Smith is the perfect coach for Winston, a more polished and experienced NFL Jimbo Fischer. He will keep Winston in check until he matures mentally plus there won’t be any fraternities to get into.
October 23rd, 2014 at 10:41 pm
Let me modify that slightly for you…Lovie Smith is the perfect coach for…a different team!
October 24th, 2014 at 7:46 am
He should cut the mickey mouse crap. We cant run it and can barely throw it. Maybe he should worry about consistency and stop trying to play mind games with teams we probably cant beat anyway.
October 24th, 2014 at 9:28 am
LOL, Lovie keep a player in check. That is rich.

tampa bay buccaneers, leading the league in subterfuge. glad that’s working out for lovie
