Teams Want Vincent Jackson

Though Vincent Jackson is still, as Joe is typing, a member of the Bucs, NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL.com and NFL Network tossed out an interesting but not surprising nugget about the Bucs’ No. 1 wide receiver.
It seems teams — plural — have reached out to Tampa to gauge interest in shipping out Jackson, as NFL.com’s Kevin Patra documents.
1) Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Vincent Jackson:
“They are getting a ton of calls on him,” Rapoport said. “With just one win, I’m told they are open to anything even though they love him as a player.”
Trading Jackson would strip down the NFL’s tallest receivers corps, but perhaps the Bucs believe they have his future replacement in rookie Mike Evans.
Look, this season is toast, in case you haven’t heard. Starting out 1-5 means no playoffs, not the way the Bucs are getting sandblasted by decent offenses.
Jackson has seen better days. He’s becoming almost as well-known for his drops than his catches and touchdowns. Jackson is tied for fourth-most drops among wide receivers and his catch-rate (times targeted/receptions) is 55 percent.
To give one an idea how Jackson is slipping as a reliable receiver, last Sunday in the seal-clubbing by the Crows, Jackson was targeted 13 times. He caught but four of those passes. Obviously, that is not factoring in bad throws, but still, that is a terrible ratio.
If the Bucs can somehow hoodwink a team to cough up a second-round pick, Bucs general manager Jason Licht shouldn’t waste a second getting approval from football operations overlord Lovie Smith for fear the other general manager might sober up before Lovie is reached.
Remember: Anquan Boldin, a better more reliable receiver than Jackson, could only fetch a sixth-round pick on the trade market.
Joe doesn’t think Jackson is in the Bucs’ long-term plans. If a draft pick and salary cap relief could come by trading Jackson, then Joe would listen intently to offers.
Per Rotoworld.com, Jackson two more seasons on his Bucs contract paying him $9,777,777 next year and $9,777,778 in 2016. Not a penny is guaranteed. Right now, Jackson is nowhere near a $10 million a year receiver.

Sounds good to me. This season is toast anyways and how much will he help the team next season or the year after is unknown.
If they can get a 2nd rounder jump on it. Hell if they can get a 3rd rounder and a later round pick. Jump on that too. I’m game.

No one is giving us a 2nd and regardless of how bad we are losing Jackson makes us so much worse. Remember the only other talented receiver on this roster was traded for a cigarette. I suppose anything is possible with these talent evaluators in charge but don’t expect us to come out on the winning end of the transaction.

I really hope this happens. I like Vdrop but his best days are behind him so it’s really about getting any draft pick and unloading his big contract. This team need less big name players and more depth. Also, don’t do business with Belicheat, first he recommended Schiano and then he stuck it to us with the Mankins trade. I hope they also trade Martin, Foster, and fire Frazier. Let the rest of the year be an audition for players for 2015.

I don’t believe we should trade him. He is the only veteran receiver we have and is hopefully a great mentor to Evans. After the season if we can trade him sure, but I don’t think it really benefits us to get rid of him now with all the rookies we have.

3. Glennon starts declining since his favorite target is gone.
4. The MOB starts creating excuses like last year for the transformation of “The Cannon” to the Toy Gun…

As LeBron might say: “not a 2nd, not a 3rd, not a 4th…”. As Boldin could only garner a 6th, and locker room Ebola carrier Harvin can get, at best, a 4th and more likely a 6th, how on earth would VJax get much of anything? I like VJax, despite his drops. He brings a lot of confidence to The Cannon and is a role model for Evans (ME, don’t mimic the drops…). But if we get offered anything above a 4th rounder, JUMP on it Mr Licht!!

I’d keep him. He hasn’t been good this year but he’s prob one of our top 6-7 guys. He’s been top notch last 2 years and a good clubhouse guy. 9.7 mil seems reasonable. Besides, most of these free agents end up busts so that extra cap room means little. I’d like him and Evans back next year. We’re young enough. Need to keep our good vets.

The saddest part no one is pointing out is the FACT that VJAX is the ONLY player on the roster that has any trade value.
Martin has zero value. No production going on 2 years. It’s funny in a way that nice guy martin does not have his mob of excuse makers. Maybe Licht can package Glennon and Martin for a 7th round pick and a pizza. I’d much rather have McCown has a backup / mentor to a real QB of the future.
Obviously LVD has value and GMC too but are untouchable. Out 53 players on the roster that is IT!
Too be honest I’d rather have Suh than GMC. GMC is clearly a better person but I love Suh’s intensity and passion. Suh is far more close to the player Sapp was than GMC will ever be. Sapp was no angel and had is far share of questionable (dirty plays)… Our defense is way too passive and far to many nice guys.

I like VJ and want him to still be on this team, but I can understand if he’s traded. Doubt we would get anything more than a 5th rounder, but if there’s a 4th or higher then pull the trigger. If not, then keep him. Remember trading him would put a lot of pressure on Mike Evans going forward, possibly even allowing teams to roll coverage to his side much like what happened when VJ was our only receiving threat. Trading him just might set Mike Evans back a little bit, so that’s something to also consider.

Are you seriously going to bring up Mike Williams? If you haven’t already realized this, the guy is not doing so hot in Buffalo. He is currently the 4th, yes I said 4th, WR on their depth chart. Unless we can get a 2nd rounder and a later round pick. This cant happen. I can still see 6-7 more wins this season. Tony dungy frist season the bucs was 0-5 why blow shit up now.

Even a 3rd Rnd pick. Great teammate and still a productive player for the Bucs, but it’s obvious this team needs draft picks to address the far bigger needs on the epic bad defense Frazier and Lovie have masterminded for 2014. Would hate to see VJax go, but at his age he deserves a shot at post season with a contender instead of probably playing meaningless games in December with the Bucs this season.

Curious as to if our coaches ever engage our players during the game. I am watching the Cowgirls game right now and they showed Ron Marinelli firing up his defense while they were sitting on the bench while Dallass was on offense. Not sure I have seen Frazier or Lovie (Howell) do this.

Vjax is a decent receiver but his contract is ridiculous… He is too inconsistent and slow to be a true #1 and his hands are too questionable to be a possession reciever… He is old and often injured… If we can get anything for him great…

Jackson brings more positives to a team that needs leadership. He’s a good character guy that sets a good example for the younger players how to be a professional.
On the field Jackson is still one of the top 10 receivers if the plays called are to his strengths. In the 20-30 yard downfield passing game he is exceptional at getting open and downfield he’s a huge target for Glennon. That’s the part of his game that he excels at, making those difficult downfield catches. In the red zone, he’s also a money receiver.
The part of his game that hurts the Bucs is hes not explosive enough off the line of scrimmage to get open quickly. In the tight part of the field he doesn’t have the lateral movement nor the flexibility to make those catches in traffic. He can get open in the second layer of the defense but has a difficult time working tight areas and getting open. He is unreliable in the short passing game as he has trouble catching balls 7-9’yards downfield.
He’s a keeper though on a team with little weapons, trading him makes no sense unless they can get multiple draft picks. Despite his age I’d say at this point in time his production is higher that Harvin’s or Boldin’s.

I can see a team like Seattle maybe over paying in a trade for him…I’m not sure I see this team being competitive in the next couple of years. We are losing with him we can lose without him.

If some team wants to over compensate us for an aging VJax and his 5 million dollar per season. I’d pop that trade off. It really doesn’t matter how good our offense is with him, if our defense sucks ass.

Football is very simple. Although the it’s a team sport- it really is a collection of individual battles. Can your guy beat the guy across from him?
If that answer is no in most cases, you are the Bucs
If that answer is mostly Yes- then you are a winning team!

On Offense, he may be the only one- although we have some good young guys( finally)

The point is the guy will be gone in 2 years and we’ll probably still suck when he leaves. I hope we don’t suck in 2 years, but either way he’ll be gone anyways.
It will make things 10 times harder on Evans though and that part I don’t like at all. So I’d have to say keep him him then, if it helps ease Evans into the NFL so he’s not the number 1 target.

Boldin was traded for a 6th that’s true- however it was universally panned as the Ravens giving him up for free to the other Harbaugh brother.
Is Jackson worth more than that? Y es. And he will be traded soon for more than that uless there’s a Smith brother we don’t know about that is a head coach in the NFL.
Personally, we need more than a 2 in terms of numbers of draft picks. If we get a 3 and a 4 I would be happy. Or a 3 and a Offensive lineman.

a 3rd round or better would be fine with me. Another solid group of draftee’s are coming out this year. We need to stock pile what we can, to have the ammunition to do what ever is needed to get this team right by 2015. Put doug Martin and Mark Barron on the block while you’re at it.

Look if Mankins costed us a 4th + a player, and Zuttah got us a 6th, and an injured Revis cost us a 1st..
Get the better end of a deal for once, you want him – you’re going to have to pay premium! Because it’ll be a team going all in on this season and is going to have to be made to be desperate!
