“He’s Playing Well. Simple As That”

Glennoncatch

Lovie Smith seems to like his new quarterback.

In the wake of the Bucs’ heart-breaking loss to the Saints today, Lovie put more of the blame on his defense during his postgame news conference.

On Mike Glennon, Lovie kept it concise.

“He’s playing well. Simple as that,” Lovie said of Glennon.

Earlier during a WDAE-AM 620 radio interview after the final whistle, Lovie praised the resolve of his team and the offense.

“Whenver you can go down 13 and go up 11, then you’re doing good things,” the head coach said.

As Joe wrote earlier, Glennon surely did enough to earn more Mike Glennon Mob members, as well as keep fans wondering whether the Bucs really need to draft a quarterback in the first round this spring.

Imagine how good they would be…will an OFFENSIVE LINE THAT COULD …RUN BLOCK….that is ALL this team is missing……there is not RB in the Hall of Fame that could get yardage behind this line

  2. Brian Says:

Glennon is not problem. Discipline and defense was the problem today. Of course those problems change week to week. Overall, we do not have the personal in place to be a winning team. We still have too many holes.

  3. RealityCheck Says:

He’s also regularly operating with only 2 downs since they consistently waste first down running up the middle for no gain.

  4. Robert7 Says:

Wonder if lovie gives himself a grade. He should have called timeout in ot and on the 4th qtr meltdown drive. His clock management and game management is terrible. The only thing I can say positive about him is they come out slinging on the first drive of the second half this week and last….but that credit could be to glennon. I give lovie a d minus so far as a coach. Would be an f, but mcclown is even worse than lovie

  5. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Today… today I have to fault the referees.

I am more po’d at the refs than anyone else.

Second I am still irritated with the defense.

But my God. The refs need to be dragged out in the middle of the field and asasinated 1 by 1.

  6. biggun Says:

@ RastaMon only one Barry Sanders.

  7. biggun Says:

I saw a number of penalties not called on the Saints. Even the announcers for the game had some silent pauses waiting for a flage hmft….

  8. biggun Says:

Glennon not the problem 2nd start no main reps prior and came in and did well he’ll be fine if Lovie keeps him in place. The rest of the team is the problem except McCoy he played hard takes more than two to get it done.

  9. Bear the Bucs Says:

Barry Sanders was a jitterbug all the way down the field. Fun to watch. Gale Sayers was a work of art. During his runs, everyone else looked like they were in slow motion.

  10. Bear the Bucs Says:

Time for the Big Dog to get on the Glennon band wagon.

  11. Bigbucs1 Says:

Refs were the problem today- that’s it! You could tell they needed the help- if you watched the game you could tell that city couldn’t stand losing at home to the BUCS- shit load of boooos when losing- I don’t usually throw the refs flag out there but this game goes down to me like the lions game in 2010- still can’t swallow it

  12. Nic Says:

Lol… Blaming the refs instantly takes away credibility in an argument. Rules are rules, they even said they would be calling defensive holding calls more stringently. They do it for both teams. We got beat and we deserved it. Just the way it is. On to Baltimore!

  13. Bucnjim Says:

There has been one constant problem since the beginning of the season and that’s communication. Getting the right plays called and getting the right personnel on the field has been a huge problem. Also; the O Line and especially the Center get a COME ON MAN!

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As far as the refs go…..I fault them on one play…..not reviewing the fumble under two minutes….we don’t have a challenge there and we rely on officials to review close calls…..they didn’t and I think it cost us….

did you even watch the game or are you just close minded ?

  16. buc4lyfe Says:

Typical mgm worried about getting on mgm bandwagon but in case you didn’t watched that game our teem isn’t very good. Win loss column, stats, national media doesn’t really care why a drive stalled out why a team loss you either look good or bad. Yep loan Mankins whiffed on a couple blocks but people in Tampa hear the name of a guy that got traded to us and immediately started sucking him off for what he did for some other team. But I get it, the wait and see approach was completely abandoned before the Carolina game and then again after the Steelers game. What else can we do except wait it out.

But to me seems like the weak link is the way the scheme is being played more than it is players with the exception of Leonard Johnson, tired of seeing him get posterized

  17. Luther Says:

I am so looking forward to the Joes on Tuesday with the Big Dog. Win or lose, Glennon did his thing. He still has to play the season there should be no more doubters. Jimmy Johnson is a believer and I’ll take that.

  18. BucfanBF Says:

Glennon is very capable of leading this team!! We can search for a OG, DE, FS and CB in the next draft. We are close guys, a few more pieces, clean up the penalties and get more comfortable with the system (especially Defense) and we will be singing a happier tune come this time next year! I for one find optimism at this point knowing playoffs are not happening this year.

  19. Pelbuc Says:

Glennon is a keeper. The kid plays pretty well considering offense has no running game, receivers drop LOTS of passes and the center doesn’t know how to snap the ball. Oh and the defense can’t stop a strong wind when it matters. This season is lost so start playing players to see who can actually make plays and make a hard push next year for Marinelli as DC. Trade Vdrop, Goldson, Barron and Martin. Thanks for nothing Bucs.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @BucFanBF

I agree…..you and I have Buc Fan in our moniker…..that means we choose to be optimistic in the face of constant “rebuilding”…..we are just a few pieces away and an acceptance from the coaches that we can’t run the ball….once we realize that and quit running constantly on 1st down, we will have a chance to win.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Which is better……2nd & 9……or with passing….either a big gain or 2nd & 10?

  22. Luther Says:

@Pelbuc, the only one we could get rid of is Martin. We don’t have enough depth to get rid of the other guys. Even getting rid of Martin would leave us exposed.I would like to see another LB, DL or Safety in the draft though. Lets not even talk about the OL. Even though Glennon did a nice job in the pocket, we gould use another Guard and a Center.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

For those who want to fault Glennon….

    1st & 10…..let him throw
    2nd & 1 …..let him throw
    3rd & 1……let him throw
    4th & 1……let him throw
    2nd & 20….let him throw

A play action on first down for the Bucs will fool all 31 opposing defenses….

  24. Bucnjim Says:

There were some home town yellow flags being thrown for sure, but the Bucs until the fourth were doing a good job in spite of some questionable calls. Early the two completions of over 25 yards each being called back kind of set the tone as to how they were going to call it. Even at the end with Banks hand to the face when the Saints failed third down was kind of sketchy.

  25. Nybucsfan Says:

I don’t think the big dog gets on hello we lost he threw two TD not like he set the world on fire and the saints had the ball like 11 mins longer than us and turned the ball over 3 times that’s not good offence. Not saying it’s all on him but he. But he didn’t take the game over and put it away. In not sure lovie knows anything about QB judging from his past

  26. andres Says:

They will be fine. A much better game than i expected. The future is bright for the bucs.

  27. Buc1987 Says:

Well he’s my QB from here on out. Critique him all you, I’ll try not to even bother defending him. Because I don’t care what anyone says from here on out about him. I’ve already made up my mind. I hope Lovie has too.

No need to draft a QB in the first round….

“Mike Glennon is the future” -Lovie Smith.

I agree with Lovie 100%. The future is now.

  28. Ur mom Says:

Ref’s were crap, color commentator was junk and the camera crew was dog sh!t. Guess when you’re both 1-3 you can expect the d team from the NFL

  29. Brent Says:

Nic, I would normally agree but that missed call on the fumble was a huge mistake that changed game.

  30. Louis Friend Says:

The fumble that wasn’t called or reviewed was unreviewable. The refs blew the whistle so fast the play was dead before change of possession occurred. Watch it again and listen for the whistle. It was incredible how fast it blew. The Bucs couldn’t challenge even if they wanted to.

  31. BucIt941 Says:

I think Mike “Golden Arm” Glennon is doing just fine. I’m not about to award him “The Future” title yet, but he has shown a lot of promise. From year 1 to 2 he has show significant growth. He no longer looks jittery in the pocket, seems to have a strong feel for the rush now (unless it’s in his face, then he still grumbles).

I have to give credit where credit is due. The boy has gone toe to toe with Big Ben and Drew Brees in shoot outs and has done rather well. He isn’t dropping pass that hit him in the hands, he also isn’t earning drive killing/big play killing penalties at inopportune times. But he did give this offense a spark. Again I am not saying he is the next Tom Brady but he is showing that he deserves a starting shot to build on this momentum he has been gaining.

  32. biff barker Says:

Sloppy play cost us another game. How much has the veteran HC improved this team over last year?
And yes, another blown call, just like the Brees fumble/sack in the Saints opener last year.
    SMFH!!

  33. Coburn Says:

Anyone else disappointed Mike James didn’t get a single carry? Somehow this dude made it into the dog house after playing quite well last year

  34. Coburn Says:

Sorry a bit off topic. Had read someone commenting about how the O-line couldn’t run block. Thought Glennon had a good game. Would have been even better with a respectable running game and some more catches. Yes I know every QB has dropped passes and some called back for penalties, but this was more than usual.

  35. Keirster Says:

I too choose optimism, I am not a fair weather fan. They were in it all the way down the stretch. Lovie will get it cleaned up and after a year in this system our defense should be downright scary. I do think we need some other bodies at different positions, but I think we will get there.

    Go Bucs!!!!
